There's been a lot of talk about Beau Sandland, but does anybody else think that Clive Walford is due for a major breakthrough?

Last year, he started out slow but finished with as good of a statistical season as any UM tight end since Winslow (451 yards, 4 TDs). And his 18 yards per catch is pretty ridiculous for a guy that some people call slow.

If Walford responds well to the competition and keeps working, I think we have an NFL tight end on our hands.

Worried about the new offense and the TE integration with the FSU past of not utilizing the TE position like traditional UM football. Hope Coley changes it up a bit and plays TE Miami style.

Here's to hoping. To me, speed was never an issue. He just looked really stiff. But the last few games last season showed promise, and I hope he keeps trending that way.

Who's this Walford and Sandland you speak of Danny?

Last time I checked, this is spring ball.

Asante Cleveland had 6 touchdowns before noon today. Probably up to 9 by now

Not sure if it was Walford coming on strong or just Morris doing a better job finding him but either way its pretty obvious a tight end can do DAMAGE on this team.

Dude was wide open a lot towards the end of last year. i think it was a combination of Fisch focusing on him more, him getting open and Morris finding him.

And thank god they're not gonna throw another pass to Dye ever again!

Fisch did a masterful job of getting him WIDE open. I recall an interview with Fisch before the UVA game, I believe, where he said they were "watering the position" all season. Pretty much trying their hardest to get the TE involved because it leads to a more dynamic, tougher to defend offense. The more guys you have on the field that require the defense's attention, the tougher you are to defend.

I think he's slower than Daniel Rivera after a deep sea diving accident, but he had good hands and he's a big body. He also clearly showed the ability to be coached up and work hard enough to earn a bigger role in the offense. Like Hcanes, my concern lies with the unknown of Coley. Not sure what he's all about yet.

He did get WIDE open a good few times. IDK if all the credit goes to Fisch though. I think you gotta give CLive some credit for executing.

I think what sticks in peoples minds is him catching a wide open pass and plodding downfield for 40 yds with nobody near him and getting caught on what should have been a TD. He's a big dude though and I think he'll be a really solid contributor this season.

Basically, the TE spot is no longer a weakness. Our heavy pckg. should be killer this year with Walford, Sandland, O'Donnell, and Standish. I see times when we run 3 TE sets in short yardage.

Last year, by season's end, Fisch was scheming to get Walford open and Walford boomed.

I don't think we can make a call like "Walford is due for a breakout year" until we see what Coley's offense looks like. FSU barely utilizes the TE as anything more than a blocker and complimentary route. But, that's Jimbo's offense.

His FIU offense didn't involve much from the TEs...Moses Hinton and Eric Kirchenberg combined for 10 catches and a touchdown.

I'm taking a wait and see approach here. Coley should go HAM with the TE...Sandland is an elite talent...he goes to Stanford or something and he's an All-American and a future second round pick. Walford is good. Both should have big years.

Not worried about any FSU, not going to use the TE, offense when the head coach played TE.

The WARLORD is a beast. I cant wait to see him and Sandland out there at the same time. Two future NFL TE's.

He just needs to catch the ball. If he could get a little faster too that wouldn't hurt. For the most part he is a decent TE (as is) with the ability to be good if he can stop setting the ball to the other team.

Solid post Lawrence.

Clive only had 4 games where he was over 50 yards receiving. Since Fisch called pass plays 55% of the time, I think that sucks.

Noley has a lot of weapons at his disposal and he better deliver. I have my popcorn, torch, and pitchfork ready.

He was my pick for breakout player last year. He didn't have a great year, but he did come on at the end. I still am convinced that at the end of the day he's going to be a certified beast.

As long as Golden is here I think the TE will be a priority, but good post. Time will tell.

If Fisch was still here Walford and Sandland were set to put in work.

And I'll say it again, Walford is not slow. The 18 yards per catch is evidence of that, and I've heard he runs in the 4.6 range.

I'd wager he smokes Sandland in a footrace.

Clive is a big time talent. He was a sleeper coming out of Glades and I think he has NFL potential. Like others have said though, we need to see what Coley does with the offense. Losing Fisch really ******* sucked. Hate having such a huge question mark coming into what should be a big year.

I disagree, he lacks speed. He gets open in coverage and gets caught from behind. I would say he runs over a 4.7.
