Clemson at Miami at 2 pm on Fox Sports South

You are 3 games into 20 game regular season and you are ready to give up on the season. Interesting.
The ACC is not that strong this season. At this point in the season, Clemson and Virginia Tech are two of the best teams in the league.
Check back with me on this in two weeks.
I'm not ready to give up, but I'm ready to conclude that just getting to 500 won't be easy. We still have to face teams like Duke, UVA, FSU, and Louisville. There may not be any dominant teams in the ACC this season, but there are still a lot of quality teams who have more talent than VT and Clemson.

2 freshman yes
3 sophomores with only one who started
1 redshirt junior who has played less than 20 games in 4 years at Miami
2 grad transfer seniors who are new to the program. One became eligible last week.
1 experienced senior who is returning from a hamstring injury.
I appreciate the fact that you're a big Canes basketball fan, but don't let that cloud your judgment. There's no way around it. This staff has done a terrible job the last 3 years on the recruiting front. The FBI excuse is played out. This assistants on the staff don't seem to be bringing much, if anything to the table and it's hurting the program tremendously. Adidas money has dried up and the staff's shortcomings are starting to show. I've said it time and time again, if only they made our state more of a priority. Have they offered any of the young kids from Calvary? Oak Ridge? West Oaks? Pine Crest?

Coach Hamilton is a good coach, but I don't think he's better than Coach L. Fsu's staff is doing a much better job of identifying talent early and going after it, and once in the program producing players for the league. A perfect example of this is Coach Ham got a marginal talent coming out of Dillard and turned him into a solid NBA prospect, while Miami signs kids from all over but for reasons unbeknownst to any of us don't seem to develop quite as well. Either our staff can't recruit well and/or can't seem to develop the guys they do get in. It's one or the other and it falls on the coaching staff. Again, Coach L has not forgotten how to coach. I still the offensive system he runs and the X's and O's makes him one of the better coaches in the ACC, but there's just so much he can do if he doesn't have the talent. Let's not be apologist for this staff's shortcomings and instead let's hold them accountable and demand they do their jobs at a higher level. GO CANES!!!

Hamilton would be lost without Stan Jones. Jim has been lost since Konkol and Huger departed for head coaching gigs.

No doubt Stan is an all time great asst coach and a tremendous asset for that program. If you haven’t heard the name yet, Charlton Young is another name you may want to familiarize yourself with. CY is probably the most influential recruiter on that staff. His name has popped up for HC vacancies and will only get hotter as they continue to do well. One of the young, rising coaching names in the game.

L's assistants appear to be clueless. If you notice whenever he calls a timeout, they always look to him for guidance and often have a deer in the headlights look, especially in close game situations.

If you watch teams with legit assistants, they often are the ones taking the lead and helping the head coach draw a play up in said situations.

Caputo is very highly regarded. I don't know about the rest. I don't think the assistants are the problem. The problem is we're not and have never been a team with enough depth to overcome significant injuries to key guys. Losing Lykes is like the football team losing King (Perry's decent game aside).

Caputo is a one trick pony. He has been with Larranaga since he was staff coordinator. His experience is Mason and Miami. BTW, he is our defensive coordinator. Not exactly our strength the last 3 seasons and longer.

The numbers are pretty telling, but that is just me.

An interesting stat is Points Allowed Per Season:

With Huger and Konkol

2011-12: 66.1
2012-13: 60.6
2013-14: 59.5
2014-15: 63.3

Average Points Allowed: 62.4 PPG

Without Huger and Konkol (aka Caputo Time)

2015-16: 67.4
2016-17: 64.1
2017-18: 67.8
2018-19: 71.1

Average Points Allowed: 67.6 PPG

Please note the following:

1. In 2019-20 we allowed 73.2 PPG. (https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/opponent-points-per-game?date=2020-03-12)

2. Caputo, as you know, became our D coordinator/specialist in 2015-16.
