CFP Committee Ranking

it can be depending on who you draw. But that’s part of it I guess. It’s just a decent spot to be in if you don’t win your conference. It could end up being an easier path than a top seed. But again, all how it shakes out
Being the top 4 seed that plays the worst remaining team is the best. Not getting the bye will never be better than that.

You could get the 5 and play Boise and then the big 12 winner. Which yes it’s an extra game, but an easier path than drawing an Ohio state or Oregon after the bye. I’m just spit balling here. But that 5 seed path is kinda nice

If you are specifically talking about this year, there’s no way if we lose the ACC champ, we will be the 5. So we really need top 4.

Right the ACC team is never getting the 5 at large lmao no shot. I could see the ACC winner getting the 5 one year if there’s a really good group of 5 team

5 seed is only better if you skip the conference championship game. You essentially get a bye and then the easiest path to the semis. 4 looks like the next best draw if the brackets turn out to be as projected. But if you have to play in the conference championship either way (whether 4 or 5), 4 seed is much better as you get that first round bye and easier bracket.

With the first ranking coming out Tuesday, what does everyone think here. The committee needs to prove they are needed and always start their ranking way different than the polls. I think they will say they are not impressed with who we have played and put us in 7-8.

This is true. I didn’t look at it that way bc it doesn’t pertain to us. As I just said, the ACC is never getting the 5.

I am realist. I see Miami being in the top ten, but the lower part. Louisville beating Clemson helped, but I don't want the Cardiac Canes of 2024 to be the FSPoo of 2023.

Going to go ahead and say it. The problem with this format is the 5 seed is going to be an awesome seed lol people will be begging to be a 5 seed. Get the group of 5 probably and the worst conference winner. It’ll be interesting if they ever change the format
And another problem with this is that 5 would play 1 in the semifinals. So the two best teams could meet before the championship game.

Does the committee ranking take into account conference champions getting automatic top 4 seeds? If so Miami will definitely be #3. I don’t think they’d put us behind the big 12 champ.

I don’t understand this line of thinking unless you don’t watch any other games besides Miami. Is there 8 or 9 teams better than Miami? If so, who? Because everyone has holes in their resume right now.

Honestly I’m not sure who should even be #2 behind Oregon.

I was thinking the same thing. I think the rankings will be each conference champ they predict today, then 5-12.

Oregon
Georgia
Miami
BYU

I'm really curious how they treat conference championship losers. A team like SMU might be ranked 10th going into the championship weekend and lose a close one, then drop out of the top 12.

I don't think so, because at this point you can't assume who the conference champions will be. I think it will be a pure ranking.

I think it will be the opposite, so we will all find out on Tuesday.

And yes, that is true about SMU, which is why the rankings matter.

I will never trust a committee or a computer to judge us fairly. With that said here's my best guess for Tuesday rankings:

1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Ohio State
4. Canes
5. BYU
6. Texas
7. Indiana
8. Penn State
9. Tennessee
10. Notre Dame
11. SMU
12. Boise State

Ohio State will be ahead of UGA in my opinion. They have a better loss (close loss to Oregon vs close loss to Bama) AND arguably a similar win as UGA (win over PSU away vs win over Texas away).
