Bailey has impressed no doubt. I’ve been a big fan. But I’d rather take another option at this point as our starter for next season.

Yeah I don’t think Bailey being UMs developmental QB leads to him eventually being the starter. He gets tired of waiting his turn and transfers. If he had been the tipping point for Smith though, then absolutely drop Judd for him.

That duke game overall was a big disappointment to Bailey and the whole team. NC State seemed to have turned it around and then blow another home game. Duke was the much better team. Murphy was the better QB. Lets see how Bailey does against @Ga Tech and @UNC. I could see NC State losing both games
 
Our staff chose Judd over this kid. Let that sink in. Bailey is still young and far from perfect but we took a major L in that evaluation. Because of that decision, we now need to hit the portal for another QB for the 25’ season. Clearly, the staff can’t count on Judd or Luke to be the 2nd string.

We will also never know if Bailey helps bring JJ last season. 🤔

NC State didn’t promise him PT either. They said he could compete with the starter just like Miami. They portalled for a QB also. Their guy got hurt and Bailey had to come in a play. He has played well for true freshman. He would have been the second stringer here or redshirt and get better.
 
Wr are criticizing a true freshman QB in his like 6-7th start against a Duke defense that is statisitically among tops in ACC?

I would bring him in, and let he and Emory compete for job, unless we can land a top 3 type portal QB which is possible.

My question is, why would the kid leave a pretty much guaranteed starting job for the next 2 seasons to come here to potentially be the starter? Unless the NC St. program is just in shambles and trending the wrong direction. I can’t imagine the kid would come here without some kind of guarantee.

Maybe he views Miami as a playoff contender moreso than N.C. State. Maybe he wants to come back home, play with his former teammates. Maybe Miami offers him a higher NIL?

I wanted Bailey over Anderson. But you assume Dawson was targeting a QB based on his ability to start right away. If that was the selection criteria, then you are 100% correct they chose the wrong guy. Because Bailey was clearly the more polished of the two. But Dawson knew he was taking a guy (or two as it turned out) from the portal, plus he had Emory coming back from injury. So he was recruiting for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. We can disagree with him. But he clearly believed Anderson has the higher upside.

Will Bailey lead us to a natty next season? If not, why would we want to recruit him away from a starting spot now? Let him play at NCS or wherever, and if we really want him in 2026, then pursue him at that time. I personally think there are better options out there for next season. And I think we'll have our QB for 2026 on roster by then in one of Emory, Nickel or Coleman ... maybe even Anderson.
 
This entire discussion is laughable. I must say he is extremely consistent, he is 12th or 13th in every single passing statistic. If I were a traffic engineer, I would call him pedestrian.

With a 1-2 million dollar NIL budget for a QB I gotta believe there are better guys out there.

Also MC needs to figure out who his OC will be if SD takes a head coach job. Seems like that would be a pretty important early step to attract a portal QB.

Good news is Mario has shown he has a pretty big contact list.
