2024 Cedrick "CJ" Bailey 3* QB from Chaminade

Miami tried late, as we all know, and he should've been valued higher in evaluations earlier on, yes, but coaches tend to be slow to move off QB's they identify and offer.

Just like a lot of people tend to cling to their priors, the staff clung to their priors too long here.

Judd will be a decent QB in college somewhere, he's just not Miami level in my view.

Judd was a reach imo. I actually liked Bailey as a developmental guy.

Agreed. Baily should have been the developmental qb stash as a local kid with tools… oh and let’s not forget he is at a pipeline school where you were trying to land two 5 star WRs teammates of his

Seemed unbelievably obvious except to Dawson and the staff… probably the only big wtf thing I’ve had with this staff

Feels like this kid has resentment towards Miami and would much rather follow the Teddy Bridgewater route, than the Cam Ward route
He wanted to be at miami but we just never were really interested, it all felt like a ploy to get jj

I liked Bailey, had a thread last year on him saying we should take him over Judd. But he’s not good enough to be a championship QB. So why worry about him at this point? Get a portal QB, develop Nickel and Coleman, and hope we can keep Emory happy as a backup and he doesn’t jump ship.

I don’t recall you having this view of Judd when he signed. Of course you thought he was a developmental guy, but I remember you saying that he has some physical tools that play here. Maybe I’m thinking of someone else.

I did say he had some physical talent and tools . I also said I’m ok with guys like him if he’s not the only qb in the class. I also defended his Jr film because his coaching was awsf. But most of my posts in my history are sarcasm about paying him Rashadas money and stuff like that. I literally posted he’s nowhere in the same stratosphere as Emory who I did like. Did I bury him like most people ? No.

i was one of the only on board with taking CJ BAILEY over Judd throughout.

Good call. Although if UM had taken Bailey as a developmental QB, he doesn’t start this year, and maybe not even next year if UM brought in another transfer QB because Bailey is too unproven. Then Bailey transfers somewhere he can play and it ends up being a wasted opportunity for us.

It may be a bit underhanded but it may not be a bad strategy to tell a development QB:

“We want you on the team. But truth is we may redshirt you as a freshman, and you may not see the field until year 3 at the earliest. By then you might be frustrated and want to be somewhere else. So here is a win-win proposal . Go somewhere where you can start immediately. Prove yourself there for one season and then transfer here. If you like where you are at , great, that’s what college is all about. But if you still want to be our QB, you have our word that we will give you the opportunity to be our starting QB.”

Basically use the lesser programs like a farm team. I don’t know if NIL rules allow it , but maybe there is even a way to give some NIL as a retainer.

But CJ Bailey is in your view?

You were right but you weren’t the only one. Lots of us were watching highlights of him throwing to Trader and Smith in stride scratching our heads asking why we wouldn’t recruit him.

But let’s imagine we had. We still take Ward. So Bailey rides pine this whole season and the entire fan base clamors for another portal transfer anyway. Let’s be honest. Bailey going to NCS was a win/win. He gets playing time and chance to become a big time recruit. We get to evaluate him and decide whether or not he’s the right guy to replace Cam based in real P4 game film.

Bailey has impressed no doubt. I’ve been a big fan. But I’d rather take another option at this point as our starter for next season.
