Merritt is more talented than the South Florida DB’s currently in our class and FSU’s DB’s are complete JAG’s.

Even if we can flip Pickett, we need to be aiming WAY higher in the portal than trying to raid the secondary of a dumpster fire program like FSU.

Stop it. The “strength” of their 2-9 team is painfully average at best. They bracketed Restrepo and stayed in a two-deep safety look all night, inviting us to run it down their throats the entire game.

Just because some on this board only remember the names of South Florida DB’s we recruited but didn’t sign in recent classes doesn’t mean there won’t be far superior options available in the portal.

I know we threw this idea around in the FSU Tears thread but I would absolutely kick the tires with Edwin Joseph and Conrad Hussey from FSU to see if they would be interested in in coming home. You got both guys for 3 more years and both flashed whenever I saw them especially Joseph.

As for Merritt, something must be up behind the scenes because Mario doesnt seem like the type to let a kid string us along as a commit knowing full well the kid has every intention on decommitting. Maybe the kid is truly torn.
 
From Sports Illustrated yesterday when reporting on how Hussey suffered a season-ending injury and has undergone an undisclosed procedure:

Hussey made three starts in Florida State's first five games but saw his playing time dwindle following the loss to Clemson. He's dealt with a sophomore slump and is among the lowest-graded defenders (51.1) on the team, ranking No. 46 out of the 50 Seminoles to see action on the defense this season. Most of his snaps have come on special teams since October. He's totaled 18 tackles in ten appearances.

Is this really the caliber of player some of you want us to prioritize in the portal to address our dire needs in the secondary? Or is it simply a matter of name recognition?

Ill give a mulligan to the kid based on what Ive seen from that FSU team. Nobody on that team looks good save for a few guys. They most likely are not getting developed properly. Even Patrick Payton took a big step back.. Hussey is still young. That said, I just threw the idea out there..didnt say I was stumping for the kid. LOL.

Hes not a plug and play kid. And he wont command any NIL. Just throwing the idea out there. Its not like our secondary recruiting this year has been lights out btw. Just an option in case we strike out on high level targets.

I haven't followed them beyond Wallace. Wallace I definitely have some concerns with moving forward. But the comment said our DB recruiting hasn't exactly been lights out. I'm my eyes that's disingenuous. When we recruited Wallace he want injured and everyone in the country wanted him. Same as Fitzgerald,same as Stubbs etc. etc. etc... Matter of fact, without putting tons of thought into this. The only kid you guys weren't happy with, who most said is a Guidry special, who's not Miami quality, & is a reach, was Merritt. Who now when word gets out we may be phasing out of the class and moving away from, we get all this backlash saying how good he is & looks the best & we gotta keep him... The double standards on here you just gotta love. I'll stick to trusting Mario. Especially knowing the things y'all are privy too are a very small fraction. Just let the man work and see where we end up.

Meritt has been getting pushed out. Mario doesn't do reaches. Day wasn't a reach. Mario was high on him.

They want DJ and Hanks (I dont think it happens. the father has been pushing UF) maybe someone else pops up but it won't be merrit in the class.

I like who we have but the more the merrier if you ask me. We go into 2025 Spring ball with OJ and thats it that we can truly depend on.
