CB Tim Merritt commits to Miami

I haven't followed them beyond Wallace. Wallace I definitely have some concerns with moving forward. But the comment said our DB recruiting hasn't exactly been lights out. I'm my eyes that's disingenuous. When we recruited Wallace he want injured and everyone in the country wanted him. Same as Fitzgerald, same as Stubbs etc. etc. etc... Matter of fact, without putting tons of thought into this. The only kid you guys weren't happy with, who most said is a Guidry special, who's not Miami quality, & is a reach, was Merritt. Who now when word gets out we may be phasing out of the class and moving away from, we get all this backlash saying how good he is & looks the best & we gotta keep him... The double standards on here you just gotta love. I'll stick to trusting Mario. Especially knowing the things y'all are privy too are a very small fraction. Just let the man work and see where we end up.
I would swap Merrit with Ewald. I think the disappointment was higher for him. I could be wrong though.

One snapped his leg, Ewald is average, and Fitzgerald is afraid to tackle a pillow. Slime is a great get....that just tore his ACL. In a position of need, we needed to do better.
You don't recruit kids to come straight out of highschool as true freshman & play a meaningful role. Some can & it's an aberration. You guys gotta choose the standard though. Because it's always about star ratings on here. All of them except Merritt are rated highly. Ewald was a Michigan commit that we took. Certain things have value. You know what Michigan hits on at a high rate? DBS... Just sayin. I'll trust that eval over you guys film analysis. Fitzgerald certainly isn't physical. At corner you don't need to be physical. You need to be a ball hawk & have good coverage skills first and foremost. Pretty sure that's been proven throughout the years. Would I love if he also would get mean & put a hat in someone's chest? Yep I would. But I'm not gonna constantly move the bar especially since it's not like people are just seeing he's not physical. Plenty of great corners weren't either. Slime tore an ACL... It's called foosball. It's known to happen from time to time. Should we now move on from a kid with amazing film and amazing measurables (just like Wallace) because they got injured doing exactly what's asked of them. Wallace as much as I like that kids potential, he has a SERIOUS injury. Not much we can do there but honor the commitment and go on this journey with him and pray for the best. So when you say needed to do better (even though you don't know a final result)how could we have done better? Who do we move on from? Who do we bring in that satiates the Madden pros as replacements? Obviously some 5 stars right, cause that's all that matters. Gotta love how this works. I'm not sure exactly how y'all think recruiting works. But these highly ranked kids(just like all the ones we have already)it's a long process to recruit them. What am I doing. I agree. Let's get rid of them all and just start over from scratch and make all the kids who should be highly rated come to us. Cause other schools recruiting them for years don't matter.

Hey im not dying on the "Hussey/Joseph" hill. Lol. Dont get me wrong. Just threw an idea out there because I know it was discussed a little on the Nole Tears thread.

That said, if Merritt is being pushed out like one poster said..something must be cookin behind the scenes that we are not privy to.

And I'm not saying I'd have a problem with that either. I'm saying I TRUST MARIO... So let him cook or y'all just start working on your LinkedIn profiles and bombarding Joe. To steal a cheesy catch phrase, "BE THE DIFFERENCE"

Fair response. I would have liked to target and press different CB. Imo, Hanks and Picket were never coming here. I might be proven wrong on that in a few days. I'd be very happy to be wrong. I think we should have pressed the kid that committed to Clemson and flipped to Texas. Grayson something. We got out recruited for some other targets. **** happens. It seemed like we didn't cast a very wide net for CB this class. I hope we don't lose Merrit, think he can be good.

Lol at Hussey leave is his *** up in Tally

Imma be honest, you have a lot of hostility. I want Miami to be great. I'm ok with disagreeing on where we stand in the interim. We are 11-1, I don't agree that we are positioned great, but I'm far from sounding the alarms and hoping for the worst. Winning is the ACC is the most important thing rn.

Hostility? Ok. Happy Thanksgiving y'all. One thing I will say is I've explained quite a few times, when I respond to a comment on here I'm not necessarily simply addressing one individual. Words have value. Y'all being key in this. All I read is people constantly questioning everything the staff does. So become part of the staff and have your voice heard. Not sure where there's hostility in that. But it's your opinion and you should stick with it.

Stop it. The “strength” of their 2-9 team is painfully average at best. They bracketed Restrepo and stayed in a two-deep safety look all night, inviting us to run it down their throats the entire game.

Just because some on this board only remember the names of South Florida DB’s we recruited but didn’t sign in recent classes doesn’t mean there won’t be far superior options available in the portal.
I’m all for that too , that needs to happen and should be the main focus besides a qb in the portal

So they’re pushing him out ? Maybe he should showed up to his visit if that’s the case . Mario isn’t stupid on the trail he probably felt the games that wasn’t worth the effort

I think our DB haul so far is exceptional. We're being irrational because of Hanks and Pickett. If Merritt is truly being pushed out, isn't that what half the board wants, mostly the star whores? I personally want him in this class because Liberty City El rates him highly and he looks good to me on his HUDL. But I also agree with Brook -- we need to trust Mario, Guidry and Jackson they know what they want here. OJ looks good, Mario is glowing about Day, all of us believe ZP is a baller, and Mack was making waves pre-injury. So maybe they're getting this room right?

Side note, I'll judge this class after its fully in and we see what Mario does in the portal. Right now, I'm not thrilled by the WR group, for example. But even if he doesn't land Wilson and Brown (low probability flips, IMO), I won't worry about it until we see what we pull out of the portal. Who knows, maybe someone with multiple years left like a Barney wants in after playing in Timbuktu?

I also think we need multiple portal DBs regardless of how epic or not this 2025 class is. Can't rely on true freshmen to start, especially not multiple ones across multiple spots.

From Sports Illustrated yesterday when reporting on how Hussey suffered a season-ending injury and has undergone an undisclosed procedure:

Is this really the caliber of player some of you want us to prioritize in the portal to address our dire needs in the secondary? Or is it simply a matter of name recognition?

Got this from fsu 247. His 203 pff grade is higher than Frédérique’s 24 grade and him playing over 25 snaps a game (played 8 games) on a talented defense was impressive. Not sure what happened this year but with his speed (10.6) and prior film I think he is someone we should definitely kick the tires on. Especially at a discounted rate.

Plus if we can turn him around, Mario can use that in recruiting against Norvell/Surtain.

S CONRAD HUSSEY

Conrad Hussey was the most impactful freshman from FSU's 2023, playing more than 200 snaps while receiving a PFF Grade of 75.4.

"I think he's going to take a big step," Norvell told 247Sports' Brandon Marcello this week.

But how does Hussey go about taking that step? Fuller provided some insight into what FSU needs to see more of out of the talented second-year player: "We're still working on it. We're not where we can be with him. And some of that is I got to do a better job in coaching them and get in cleaner for him. He's got, he's had some flash plays, you know, we got to keep a little bit, we've got to keep him as consistent as we can health wise, and then once we keep him on the field consistent enough, I think working with the other guys and not being a listener, but being the speaker, because that's the position you play. There are certain positions that you need listeners, safety is probably not the best position. Last year, we managed it. But this year is a different expectation. And you got to continue to meet those expectations."

Hussey had a diving interception in 1 vs. 1s on Tuesday that reminded you, yup, he's a natural, easy-moving athlete.

Are you sincerely asking the people on CIS who question staff decisions to apply for staff/coaching positions at UM? I assumed you were being facetious, but if you were being sincere I am very scared for what that would look like.

Either way, happy Thanksgiving! And go Canes!
