CB Emmanuel Karnley commits to Miami

DJ Ivey getting his feelings hurt by Cane fans while he hurts the feelings of Cane fans is some real hurt people hurt people ****.

I hope Jaden Harris' heart hurts right now for what he put me through.
I have never criticized Jaden Harris on a personal level but I have certainly criticized his play many times. I'm sure Jaden is a fine young man and I wish him the best in any and all of his life's endeavors. What I am also quite sure of is that Jaden is most certainly not a good football player and that he should be embarrassed by what he put on tape this season quite frankly. He wasn't the only one as there were many guilty parties not the least of which was Guidry himself. Baron, Kiko, Richard, Hill, Porter and Powell and others all played roles in the slapstick comedy that was The 2024 Miami Hurricanes Defense. Jaden Harris however was the leading man who refused to be upstaged!

Here’s what I’ll say on this one:

I haven’t seen Karnley play a game, just like 98% of the people in this thread. And I certainly haven’t seen the coach’s tape. Those that have rate Karnley highly (he’s the #6 CB in the Portal), but that’s only their opinion.

Let’s watch the guy play extended snaps at Miami before we start a narrative. The negative, uninformed BS doesn’t do anyone any good.

DJ Ivey is a perfect example. He had a bad mental mistake against Georgia Tech and the narrative began that he stunk. He heard the noise, his confidence sank, and it began to affect his performance.

I saw him on Greentree and said he was an NFL corner. People treated me like I was insane. They said he wasn’t even FBS. Of course, he is now an NFL corner.

The coaches and Ivey himself deserve blame for him not performing to his talent at Miami. But the noise didn’t help, and it was especially unfair to a kid who worked harder than anyone and loved the Canes.

I don’t know if Karnley will follow in Ivey’s footsteps as an NFL corner. But I sure don’t want a repeat of that experience. Let’s watch the guy actually play extended snaps before telling the story of his career.
STATE MEDIA

Kidding D, good post

And thats the problem. People are A) acting like the staff views it differently and B) that a RS FR with 3 years of elligibility, great length, supposedly good athleticism, and that other top programs also are hard after is a waste of a pickup and just more incompetence by the staff.

.... Of course that ignores that we have Brantley and Poyser, have clearly been trying to and likely will get Lucas, are still hard after O'Conner from WSU, and who knows if we're still trying to get another Safety and even still another pure nickel! IMO clearly the staffs plan was to treat Karnley just like Broussard at OT - who we also extended an offer to in the portal.

I'm not saying he's going to be good. However I do know people acting like it's a foregone conclusion that he's a bad take are wrong. Scholarships are supposed to be up 20 spots, and it's looking like he's going to be CB3 at best JUST in terms of portal additions lol. You have OJ, Damari, Dyoni, Richard, Mack redshirted, and then multiple freshman..... A lot more talent in the CB room exiting this spring portal period than anyone thought we had heading into summer practices for this season....
Good post. I actually like the pickup for the reasons you stated above and because I personally believe that he will develop into a solid player at least. I disagree that this pickup is an example of incompetence by the staff or a waste of a scholarship. Had the staff shown this type of "Incompetence" towards the secondary last off season then we would be in the playoffs awaiting a quarterfinal matchup.

P.S. You seem to be quite optimistic about the Xavier Lucas situation. I hope you're right. Getting Lucas would give us the potential to completely transform our secondary. Not just upgrade but transform. Of course I'm taking the additions of Poyser, Brantley and Karnley into that consideration but Lucas would be the most crucial piece as he could then lineup opposite from OJ Frederique and give us not 1 but 2 young and gifted cover corners both going into their second year. Brantley would be CB3/maybe Nickel and move around while Poyser gives us speed, range, physicality, striking ability and instincts from the Free Safety position. I would like one more Safety but I understand if the staff likes Patterson or Day there. Now that secondary as I just described would allow our new DC the freedom and versatility to do a variety of things.

Welcome to the U. This is definitely more of what his potential is and not what he has done on the field.

I always like to hear what that player's former fanbase thought about him and they were shocked to hear the hype on Karnley. These guys cover Arizona Wildcats, one is a beat writer for them. According to them he wasn't good and got benched. Go to 47:16 for the secondary talk. They weren't high on Tacario either who they say is overhyped. They love the QB btw and blame the coaching scheme.

So being on the WC, I watch a **** ton of football including a gang of PAC-12/Big XII, B1G football. I’m legit scratching my head on this take. Does he look like Richard Sherman? Yes; does he have an ideal CB frame in today’s modern football? Yes; but, I can unequivocally tell u he’s not that guy u want on the boundaries.

I usually don’t agree w/ PFF b/c their metrics r more skewed to the NFL game, but I will say, just like the recruiting services have gotten better over time w/ more staff & data, so has PFF regarding CFB. Karnley graded 59.5 in coverage & 53.5 as a Defender. Yeah, that’s **** poor.

He gave up 51% of passes that came his way, 4 TDs, & an avg. of 13 ypc. He also spat on a player & was suspended. So yeah, I dunno. He’s definitely a project, for sure.

True but if @Memnon says that he is nothing more than a projection pickup based on physical attributes and that nothing in his film points to him being anymore than that then I must defer to the 🐐. That doesn't mean that Karnley won't develop into a very good player. It just means that outside of his measurables, he hasn't proven anything yet.
I don't say that.

I say he's Elite, a potential 1st rounder & future HOF'er.

I also hope the brantley to nickel stuff isn’t true

We just put our best cb last year at nickel this year and it didn’t work. Why pay top dollar to bring one of the best cbs in the country in and change position???

What if he wants to play Nickel cause that is what he thinks he needs to show on film?
What if he isn't playing nickel and that isn't our plan.
What if we have determined there is not any high quality nickels in the portal....

So you have already decided that because Porter sucked at Nickel that Brantley will also suck at Nickel because they both play CB? Got it.

Frankly I don't know what the staff's plans for Brantley are but he may be amazing at Nickel. Who knows? I'll let the coaches figure that out. Also, I'll spare you the suspense my friend. Brantley might get a look at Nickel during Spring but so will Dylan Day and definitely Damari Brown among others. When Amari Wallace gets healthy then he will get a look too.

Incompetent DC = incompetent players. Ray Charles leading Stevie Wonder. Expect more misalignment and coverage confusion in '25.
