CB Emmanuel Karnley commits to Miami

He is an NFL corner. That’s a fact. I said it ahead of time and got called a lunatic.

He did not play that way here. Part of that was coaching. Part of it was Ivey himself. But, as I and coaches like TRob said at the time, a big reason he underachieved is because he lost confidence. And that’s due in no small part to maniac fans that were extremely loud on social media.

Maybe he shouldn’t have paid attention to that stuff. But it’s real. Look at how grown men on here react to internet arguments.
He had terrible ball skills and gave huge cushions and that is why he wasn't as impactful as a future NFL player should have been for UM.

Assuming what I heard is correct, and what that one poster (TheReturn2023) posted is incorrect, then Miami will pursue, and the decision of whether to press on comes down to the kid.

I still do not know ON WHAT GROUNDS Wisconsin can refuse to submit the Portal paperwork. I'm just confused on that one.
What did this one poster say?

just hope we keep OJ, Brown, and Patterson - nothing saying any of those players would leave but with all the incoming, ya gotta wonder

I put a lot more weight on the opinion of people like you, @JayCane20 and @Memnon who have actually watched this guy play. There are also coaches from teams who play good defense (not UM) who value the player. That's the fun of this stuff, people have different opinions and we won't know until they develop.

On paper, this seems like a traits-based evaluation at a position where traits are very important. I am excited to watch this kid on Greentree and hope he develops more than other players we've had recently at the position.
I think this is definitely a traits-based take. Probably with the coaches thinking they can do a better job if developing him than Arizona. However, we haven’t showed we can develop DBs at UM, yet.

The other issue is like you said earlier this year we want guys who not only played snaps but also produced. Yes, this guy played snaps but what i saw from him from the games i watched were no better than what we had here (excluding OJ). We need more Stevesons and Mike Jacks and less DJ Iveys at UM. They are all NFL players and played a lot of snaps at UM but they did not all produce at UM.

Because this kid will get beat. That’s part of the position. And if there is already a built-in narrative that he stinks, the reaction will be disproportionate. I don’t want history to repeat itself to the point that it begins to impact performance.
I don't understand this take.

What other corners on other teams let fan perspectives impact their performance? It’s a sign of a mentally weak player. What other fanbase doesn’t bash their players that play badly?

Here’s what I’ll say on this one:

I haven’t seen Karnley play a game, just like 98% of the people in this thread. And I certainly haven’t seen the coach’s tape. Those that have rate Karnley highly (he’s the #6 CB in the Portal), but that’s only their opinion.

Let’s watch the guy play extended snaps at Miami before we start a narrative. The negative, uninformed BS doesn’t do anyone any good.

DJ Ivey is a perfect example. He had a bad mental mistake against Georgia Tech and the narrative began that he stunk. He heard the noise, his confidence sank, and it began to affect his performance.

I saw him on Greentree and said he was an NFL corner. People treated me like I was insane. They said he wasn’t even FBS. Of course, he is now an NFL corner.

The coaches and Ivey himself deserve blame for him not performing to his talent at Miami. But the noise didn’t help, and it was especially unfair to a kid who worked harder than anyone and loved the Canes.

I don’t know if Karnley will follow in Ivey’s footsteps as an NFL corner. But I sure don’t want a repeat of that experience. Let’s watch the guy actually play extended snaps before telling the story of his career.
News flash. Social media ain’t going away anytime soon and neither will the critics. Undoubtedly, and unfortunately, things get way out of hand but it won’t stop those from continuing to be oblivious to what affect their words have on anyone else.

Just speaking facts. They knew in March what they had and didn’t have. They believed what they had was good enough. They ruined a special offense and season because there are ******* morons making decisions.

The worst was hearing Guidry at some early media days talk about how they didn't have a lot of depth. No **** Sherlock. And then you bring in Savion Riley and Dyoni Hill? IMO, even though I was impressed by Guidry after his first season and would normally give him the benefit of the doubt, his lack of self awareness was inexcusable. Anyone with half a brain saw this coming.

So the culture that Mario built is one where a DB gets beat before he takes the field -- by the fan's perspective?

HOLY ******* ****

Welcome to the U. This is definitely more of what his potential is and not what he has done on the field.

I always like to hear what that player's former fanbase thought about him and they were shocked to hear the hype on Karnley. These guys cover Arizona Wildcats, one is a beat writer for them. According to them he wasn't good and got benched. Go to 47:16 for the secondary talk. They weren't high on Tacario either who they say is overhyped. They love the QB btw and blame the coaching scheme.
