CB Emmanuel Karnley commits to Miami

Here’s what I’ll say on this one:

I haven’t seen Karnley play a game, just like 98% of the people in this thread. And I certainly haven’t seen the coach’s tape. Those that have rate Karnley highly (he’s the #6 CB in the Portal), but that’s only their opinion.

Let’s watch the guy play extended snaps at Miami before we start a narrative. The negative, uninformed BS doesn’t do anyone any good.

DJ Ivey is a perfect example. He had a bad mental mistake against Georgia Tech and the narrative began that he stunk. He heard the noise, his confidence sank, and it began to affect his performance.

I saw him on Greentree and said he was an NFL corner. People treated me like I was insane. They said he wasn’t even FBS. Of course, he is now an NFL corner.

The coaches and Ivey himself deserve blame for him not performing to his talent at Miami. But the noise didn’t help, and it was especially unfair to a kid who worked harder than anyone and loved the Canes.

I don’t know if Karnley will follow in Ivey’s footsteps as an NFL corner. But I sure don’t want a repeat of that experience. Let’s watch the guy actually play extended snaps before telling the story of his career.
Lot of things I agree with here. Some I don’t agree with. What gives me a lot trepidation is when the people who do know ball aka the 2%. Say this kid stinks like trash day (putting it nicely) and on top of that he spit on someone. Ivey was high character and got off track and lost mojo

Maudes can go full blown authoritarian state of Hecht on the meanies, D$. Bans, Purgatory, ******** with access… we’ve got a whole bunch of tools at the ready.

So our coaches and the coaches of other top programs going for him don't know ball relative to CIS? Many coaches at this point have evaluated his tape and looked at his measurables and determined he's worth a scholarship. These coaches doing these analysis have more information on his measureables, have even more information of his character/mental makeup than porsters on CIS, oh and have 100% watched more film than just the top 2% of ball knowers on CIS lol. There might be 5 total posters on this thread that have watched more than like 2 games of his.

But ultimately evaluating players is difficult. The best evaluators still miss more than they hit. Even guys that seem to be a sure thing in the portal can miss. I believe they are looking at this take with a completely different lens than most here seem to be judging this by. People are acting like he is being brought in to be an immediate contributor. I disagree. To me that is what Brantley, O'Conner, Lucas would be. This is a developmental addition the same way Broussard would be at OT if we end up signing him out of the portal. Like I've said if you view this as him being apart of last years HS Recruiting class (which is essentially what he is) it's seems like a perfectly reasonable take *IF* done for a reasonable NIL amount. OJ, Mack, Karnley. Mack did nothing last year. Who does CIS think is more likely to be a valuable contributor for us in 2026?....

Too sensible, level-headed and fair, D$. Not good.

What’s the groupthink here? Why do we think he sucks? Who do we have right now who is better? Have we considered his 3 years of remaining eligibility? Don’t assume my opinion—I know nothing about him. I just wanna know before watching film.

Just not sure how the fact DJ is a borderline NFL corner on one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL makes up for getting cooked and looking like he pulled a hamstring against MTS****inU. And definitely don’t know how any of that equates to this guy. Our evals have been terrible. Our development worse. Taking a traits kid without the staff to develop traits means I get to watch more guys run wide *** open against us next year

A meh take but it makes sense if they continue to add to the secondary. He isn’t very good but has solid traits. We still need 2-3 impact players in the secondary. Hopefully Lucas is still one of those making that an easier road.
