CB Emmanuel Karnley commits to Miami

I see where you’re headed with that. But I would think talent acquisition would be responsibility #2 after playcalling under Mario, and it’s not just on Mario, Jackson (whom Guidry hired) or Smith and his recruiting staff. Am I wrong about that?
I wouldnt say you’re wrong but it’s telling that before a snap was played he was on record speaking on depth. If he’s aware then it was an issue and it wasn’t handled then I have to start thinking why not.

I mean I liked him coming in. I’ll hold judgment. This year was a disaster

Looks like the State Media has gotten their talking points.

“Many think he has the better tape,” blah, blah, blah.

Can’t we just be honest about this dude?

He has good football measurables and fast (pause) and has potential to develop into something better because he played a lot as a freshman.

At the same time, he struggled a lot and wasn’t very good a lot of times, had terrible PFF scores and we are just throwing bodies at the problem and see if he can be developed into something better.

That’s it!
Yeah. Well said. On the flip side, I’m not sure why some people feel so aggrieved by taking a flyer on this guy. There does not appear to be any opportunity cost and it looks like we’ll add some more quality at CB. Maybe it’s just anger with the defensive staff, which is understandable. But if Wink Martindale’s operation sees something here, it seems like a good guy to take a chance on. We just need to get a defensive staff in that can coach guys like this up.

this dude is ***. Spin job the measurables all you want. This is just a case of coaches thinking they can fix something broken. Oh well.

I'm going to ask YOU this question, because I respect you.

Why is this kid "broken"? He played WR in HS. He is a freshman who switched over to DB, so he is learning a new position. I get the "stiff hips" point that was raised, but can we POSSIBLY let the kid play DB for a second year before deeming him "broken"?

Just an honest question. And, hey, I love it when kids adapt to a new position in less than a year, but that doesn't happen with everyone at the same rate.

Bad choice of words. Not broken. I’ll own that one and say MY BAD. I look at him and see a very raw dude at either position WR/DB. Yes he’s stiff but I’m not as down on his hips as everyone else. I just don’t see a cornerback whatsoever. I do think we can get him to play safety here and by the time he’s a junior we could have a player but with the way Mario gets talent in I don’t see him having the time to develop like that. All in all I won’t be sold he’s a corner. Put him at safety and let’s revisit

Absolute respect to that answer.

Harris actually has good speed it’s just he is bad at everything else. This karnley kid they say is pretty fast. I could be wrong but I believe somebody said he was a 10.5 guy
He can’t tackle or cover I agree , not sure how much of that could be coached at this level

Because this kid will get beat. That’s part of the position. And if there is already a built-in narrative that he stinks, the reaction will be disproportionate. I don’t want history to repeat itself to the point that it begins to impact performance.
D$ - with all due respect.

There is a simple solution to the fact fans of any team will not change their habits:

Delete your social media account. That’s where all of the negativity is and if you don’t see it, it’s not impacting you.

But everyone is attached to their phones these days and social media so that is what they will see.

Just speaking facts. They knew in March what they had and didn’t have. They believed what they had was good enough. They ruined a special offense and season because there are ******* morons making decisions.
This!!!!!!!! 👆👆👆👆

Now they are doing everything they can to fix it, one season too late when everyone last year said the back 5 was bad right before and after the bowl game. Wasted Cam.

Now they are trying to fix the defense and aren’t addressing the QB position.

As always the solution is to fix one of the problems. Never can be all.

Why are people complaining about this? He may not be a day one impact player, but with his size and athleticism, he can develop into an impact guy for us. Oh and most importantly, he’s got three years of eligibility left.

If I’m not mistaken, didn’t I read he converted from WR to DB? Most of you threw a fit when Washington left because you wanted see him develop as a corner. Where’s that same attitude for this kid? One is 5’11 and one is 6’3
With immediate help on special teams.
