CB Chris Ewald commits to Miami

We would all love that. The question is will the quality be there? Odds are not in our favor there
The quality was there in last class we took 2....one left.

Is the evaluation gonna be there should be the question because there were a good number of guys to take out of the portal and we chose to grab a guy from Vanderbilt and also allowed one of our younger guys to transfer to Va Tech where he starts and looks like a solid player.

The transfer portal is wiiideee open every year..and there are good players gonna be in it every year and guys that want to play UP in talent for draft prospects or just want to finish out their career in Miami.

I wasn't one of the guys who had joy at their departure. I consistently warned about how bad our DBs were in the offseason. I also highlighted how awful our LBs wre against the pass, including Kiko, who this board seemed to regard as the next Junior Seau.
I agree and my line of thinking was yours throughout ...even posted guys we should be taking as they were in the portal.

Im completely confused as to why Marley Cook was needed for his 5-8 snaps a game and not dbs after losing so much production and even depth guys.

The likelihood we solve the DB problem in the portal is very very small. As Dmoney say's every bank episode, this position group is going to be solved through high school recruiting

Two more Powell's? No thanks

If I wasn't mistaken, wasn't Powell a top 5 safety out of the portal? There is a very low chance we can get a quality safety out of the portal, let a lone. I hope I'm wrong. Dmoney said it best, dbs are going to primarily be resolved out of hs

Lol.

I'm all good for taking portal dbs. We need the depth and the talent back there is limited right now. But I just want to lower peoples expectations. People on here are expecting a big leap with this group through the portal, and I just think the odds of that are low.

there are 5 div 1 wrs on that clip. (Ole Miss, Fau, a pending Notre Dame Commit, the other two are juniors who likely end up power 5)

Thats the difference between CJ and other guys....hes been going against big players for a looooongg time..other folks film are filled with door dash guys.

CJ ceiling i shigher than current starters..wherever OJ went for s&c after sta is where CJ needs to be. Thats the next level im awaiting to see him with more s&c size...as far as the technical aspect of the game he'll be ahead of alot of freshman incoming dbs. His frame can hold the weight similar to OJ as well.

Hes a prop joe kid so im gonna be on here going to war about him....and as stated ..80% of the board didnt like the OJ and Ryan Mack takes either. OJ has brought dividends extremely quick.
I didn't realize he went against that many D1 guys. But my hope was S&C would get him to a different level. With a good year of work I can see him being a rotational guy, just not sure his ceiling is super high but like you said most of us said same thing about OJ (I admit I was wrong on OJ).

Fair enough...and I know that this might be apples and oranges due to where they're at in terms of their development (i.e. one is a late bloomer and one seems to have plateaued)...but would you have called OJ a JAG this time last year? Because I know I would have.
I totally would have
I’m worried this is the best he’ll be
We have had a lot of players shine as freshman and then regress or plateau

Yeah not too impressed. Technique looks fine but he's getting beat off the line too often for my taste. Shows some decent makeup speed but can he do that vs ACC receivers. He looks like he'd be abused by good slot guys. He won't see the field next year and hopefully Chevis & the strength staff can get something out of him but I'm not counting on it.
His technique is def good, he’s just physically behind. Which isn’t that big of a deal as long as he takes his S&C serious. He also has the frame to put on more size. From a pure CB standpoint he’s better than a lot of other past recruits who CIS thought their athleticism would translate even though their technique needed a lot of work, Marcus Clarke, Malik Curtis, Robert Stafford, many more. If the staff closes with Antoine, Fitzgerald, Ewald, and one of Hanks or Pickett, it’s a good CB class.
