Who says Dawson is leaving?

Haven’t seen anything since those Rice rumors a month ago
Why would he stay after giving Mario the #1 offense in the country just for it to not matter, at all.

That's also a thing. That defense probably ****ed some people off in the locker room.

He's the OC of the #1 offense. He'll get offers.
Probably but I'm not as confident about that as I was a month ago. I feel like the coaching carousel is going to be pretty light this year.

I'm not sure a ton of programs are super interested in absorbing buyouts with all the crazyness around NIL right now. I think reality is starting to set in for a lot of programs and they'd rather give their lame duck coach another chance by investing that buyout money in NIL and hoping it works out.

Versus pay dozens of millions of dollars hoping the next guy is that much better while also having to pay up a ton with the new guy in order to get recruiting going.

I still think he'll get some interviews but feel like the market is going to really light in terms of vacancies. What I'd be curious to see is does he end up leaving for another OC job at an SEC or B1G type program. I could see some movement there (Bama, Georgia, Michigan?).

HS class was underwhelming, but don’t worry boys, the path to winning is simple

- Replace 8-10 NFL players
- Replace the best OC in CFB this year
- Replace his DC and multiple position coaches
- Sign a top 5 portal class

What could go wrong?
top oc in cfb ... you must don't watch alot of college football

indiana got JMUs coach with a similar schedule and did what theyve never done in a tougher conference.
Is it a similar schedule or a tougher conference? This is a double standard comment. You don't get to bend the truth like that to make a false point without getting called out.
Also, let's see what Indiana does next year before we place a crown on Cignetti's head. I heard this same crap about Sonny Dykes after Mario's first year. All those folks got real quiet after TCU's one great season.

Probably should have posted it here. Was this class supposed to be small to focus more on the portal . Dbs qb ?

And there will be more $$ freed up with some high priced kids currently on the roster portalling out. There will be no shortage of portal funds and they need to be used for some real hits, starting with a big time QB.
Yes sir. But it'll need to move from an above average class outside of QB last year to us being at that top spot like Colorado or Ole Miss were to actually cover for how bad (in context) this high school class is.

No question imo the recruit that is the worst loss to me is Ben Hanks. Though with him being a legacy at UF, it's not a suprising loss especially with UF turning on the jets for NIL in the last couple weeks.

QB - Really like Nickel. And I've been saying Portal QB and a low 4 star to high 3star our of HS with potential OR Literally the top QB in HS needs to be our strategy. Ultimately what we do at QB in the Portal and how that effects how we spend on every other position is the most important thing for this season upcoming.

RB - Pringle. Like him and am fine with 1 RB this class. This is good. We may have to get a portal RB simply because Ajay Allen is probably leaving and Martinez probably declares. But I'm fine where we are at RB.

WR - Below average to solid class. I mean it's worse than last years class imo. But it's not like Moore, Upshaw, and Toney is bad... Think no matter what we need to get the best portal WR available.

TE - Schott looks legit and Luka seems like he can be a good developmental piece. Better than like Carver potential wise. Seems like at worst he'll be like a McCormick type that is useful in the blocking game. Good TE class. I could see us getting a portal TE, but Don't think we need to or anything.

OL - Another good class imo. I really like Alofaituli and Buchanan a lot. The other two have good long-term potential to be developed. Again I really don't question these types of takes much with Mario. OLine is something you want to get like at least 1 guy that can contribute within 2 years, but the others are more 3 year projects. No problem with this class for me. I think next year is the class we need to land a 5star OT. And again I think we don't need to hit portal at OLine. If there is a top guy that wants to come here, sure. But otherwise not super necessary.

DT - Below average class 100%. Donta Simpson and Mykah Newton. Its not very surprising given last class, which was legit at DT. But still not a good class. I think we have to let the young Dline take over. We could still use a Good DT in portal just as a floor setter. But Moten and Horton should be counted on to step up along with our young guys.

EDGE - Solid average class. Again like DT not surprising that we don't get super elite guys given last class, but ultimately I like Lowe and Scroggins. So This is solid. Nothing crazy or very bad here imo. We legit need to get an EDGE contributor for sure imo.

LB - This seems bad, but ultimately Wiley + Marcelling is probably as good or better than like Alford + Nix... This all depends on Wiley. Lots on here have been saying they view Wiley as legit the best LB in the country. So I mean if that is the case, can you really say this is anything but a good LB class? Sure maybe it's not what we ultimately wanted, but it's still good imo. I like where we are at LB entering next season, and don't think we need to hit the portal.

S - This imo is a complete failure. We sucked at Safety this year, and got no safeties. Need to hit the portal hard. Like we need 2 guys that can start AND a guy with multiple years still. So I'd take 3 total Safeties in the portal.

CB - Honestly this is a better class than most will want to say WHEN compared to our previous handful of classes. Not what we needed though so still a fail. But the class is fine as a whole. Antioine looks legit to me and was a massive recruiting win. Fitzgerald is a CB imo and I think can be a good one. Good ball skills and athleticism. His physicality means he's not a safety. Ewald is a solid to good player. If Carter recovers fully he seems like he could be legit good too. Problem is we needed a class like we signed at DLine last year or Oline two years ago. That didn't happen. We need MINIMUM 2 starting level CBs in the portal.

PORTAL summary, Need: QB1, 1 WR, 1 Rotational DT, 1 Starting level EDGE, 5-6 DBs....
thanks for writing this up, holy fk the defensive recruiting was an absolute failure outside of wiley

No. FSU has a similar NIL and a **** recruiter and look at how they fare.

for what we pay in NIL and supposed elite recruiter, howd we do?

you dont think cignetti can pull the 15th ranked class with this budget and in this area?
IU recently extended Cignetti at something around $8 million/year and gave him a bunch more money for assistants. Anything can happen, but it would be surprising if he leaves there at this point.

It's enough if we hit what we need in the portal. I think a lot of $$ and effort will be focused there.
It's a tough class to judge. Solid players, not many big name difference makers but no reaches. Not huge in size, so you need to have a high hit rate, supplement with the portal, and keep attrition low

I know hes not leaving esp for here and im not saying were firing Mario.

im just saying there are coaches out there we could hire if Mario doesn't pan out. not exactly him but a smart AD should be able to sift through and find him and not some donors

It's literally the only positive spin. I'm guessing portal kids care a lot less about "SEC" as more impressionable 17-18 year olds would and it'll be more about opportunity and getting to the league.

And we should be headed in with the extra money we have since we missed on Alford/Pickett/Wilson/Nix/Douglass and Jackson.

SUCH a great point here. You have to remember, ESPN goes raw for the SEC. That's all you see. We get Billy Packer's son on the ACC Network. Kids get enamored with that. I get it. It's ok. I did it in marriage. First wife was the SEC and the 2nd wife was business.
