Canes were 7-0 in 2013, finished 9-4

This Saturday I’m hoping to see improvements from the mistakes of the Virginia Tech game.

Not because Cal provides different challenges than VT.

Better fundamentals. Smarter play. Fewer penalties. Fewer missed tackles. No turnovers.

Perfection, no, but at least progress.

Guys... Every game we play, will not be an exact replica of VA Tech.

You guys watch College Football weekly, monthly, yearly, correct?

Have you all never seen a good team have a bad game before?

Am I missing something here?

Penn State, Georgia, Oregon, Ole Miss and others have had bad weeks. Some have resulted in losses, others not. It happens every year. Well coached teams bounce back.

The 2013 Miami Hurricanes were totally crushed with injuries after the FSU game. They also entered the season with only 75 scholarship players, so the bandwidth for injuries was even more narrow. They had only four defensive tackles and seven scholarship wide receivers entering the season. Average experience of the cornerback room was 0.7 years.

Here's how the 2024 team compares to 2013:

Wow when you see it now that roster sucked so bad lol pause

Why is the OP trying to say that a team corched by Al PHVCKING Golden is the equivalent to this year? I'd be less offended if you called my mother a poota sucia and tried to bang my sister at the same time.
100%

That team was smoke and mirrors and a blowout against FSU could objectively be seen from a mile away.

The “cathartic” experience Al described after beating UF was really anything but, and anyone who watched and rewatched that game could see it. They were physically and statistically dominated that game. Not saying some of the 5 TO’s weren’t earned but some were definitely gifts. Should have lost to Wake prior to as well.

Duke covered up a lot of deficiencies when he was here. Take him off that roster and that team is sub .500 IMO. This squad and the 2013 unit couldn't be farther apart from each other.

Just cut out the penalties and turnovers last game and it would have been a different vib and conversation this week...
...it is CFB. Unpredictable things happen week to week.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: We have some of the worst fans in collegiate athletics. The mope is strong with this fanbase, it's almost like our fans can't stand success.

Will this team win a title? Who knows. Is this team significantly better than last years? Yes. Enjoy the **** ride, barring Cam getting hurt this is going to be fun.
Our fans are no worse than SEC fans (bama, Auburn, UT etc)

The 2013 squad got out-gained at home in game 1 by 200 yards by an awful UF team that finished 4-8, in a game we barely won.

I agree that we can’t crown this team yet by any stretch , but I know we’re a lot better than 2013.

That 2013 team was such a fraud of a team. That Florida game was abysmal; Gators turned it over like six times with Jeff Driskel and Miami barely got out alive 21-16.

Needed a miracle fourth quarter to mount a comeback at North Carolina; barely survived Wake Forest at home.

Biggest fraudulently on-paper 7-0 team in Canes' history; could've just as easily have been 4-3 without a few breaks.

Zero comparison to this current team. None.

Entire board is scared of Louisville

Louisville lost to Notre Dame who lost to Northern Illinois

Thank god we don’t play Northern Illinois

We would lose 3+ games with a SEC schedule this season. Not due to talent but depth. Of course I’ll get killed for saying that but it doesn’t make it less true.

Turned a corner is TBD. We’ll know that next season.
Who's SEC schedule?
Take a look at Mizzou's schedule, who's ranked right with us.

This is the problem that I'll have come playoff selection time.
Not all SEC schedules are created equal.

I’ve also come to the conclusion that a lot of fans are just waiting for us to lose so they pull out there “I TOLD YOU THIS TEAM HAD HOLES!” posts that they been sitting on since the UF game. Nothing we can do about them. They will save those posts in the “Draft” bin even if we lose in the national championship game and pull them out. Just miserable people.

Said it earlier in the week. I know a lot of very good teams that have played a bad game this year and lost that are probably kicking themselves.

Years past we lose this game once the momentum shifted. We won. Another step in the right direction.

Please stop comparing those types of teams to our current one. It’s not even close. This team is light years better than 2013 and 2017.

****, we have ONE close game (that we still won) and all of the sudden we’re no better than we were under Al Golden? Come on now. Be better than that.

If you want to say we’re not quite at championship level yet, I can get it. We’re probably just below the absolute best teams but still good enough to make a run in the playoffs, especially if Cam keeps playing at a Heisman level.

Exactly.

2013 and 2013 teams were average and got lucky breaks.

2013 could've just as easily been 4-3 with losses to Florida, North Carolina and Wake Forest going into that Florida State game.

2017 could've easily lost to Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Syracuse—which doesn't set up night game environments for Virginia Tech and GameDay for a Notre Dame—6-4 or 5-5 instead of 10-0, easily.

This is a different team, roster, attitude and philosophical approach with the effort in the trenches to build a squad.

We'll also see how they bounce back from an almost-loss last week and a game with way too many turnovers.

Trusting Mario and staff were up these guys culos all week and that they'll show up prepared on the national stage against Cal.

It’s all up to the players I mean the coaches will say the right things now they have to execute.

And UGA almost lost to Kentucky.
And Bama almost lost to USF at home.
And Tennessee only put up 25 points against mediocre Oklahoma team.

We'll see how we respond. I expect us to dominate the ACC the rest of the season like we did UF and USF rather than for the rest our games to look like VT.
Kentucky could compete to win the ACC. Bama won by 3 scores. OU would compete to win ACC.
