'Canes Scouting Reports from NFL.com

which teams were those?

Duke, UNC, VT, WF are starting examples. Go look at the recruiting classes we've had since Golden got here vs the recruiting classes of those teams since Golden has gotten here. We have had better recruiting classes and more recruits than most/all of these teams (including accounting for the guys who left). If our coaching was as good as the coaching for any of these 4 teams, we would not have struggled with any of them this year. This is the worst VT we've seen in a long time. The worst UNC since Butch first got there. A very well coached Duke team who took a bunch of scrubs and made them competitors (notice they don't have draftable talent either). Then there is WF who basically ran the same play over and over and we just let it happen.

Let Golden trade places with Cutcliffe or Beamer, and I'd be willing to bet this is a 10-11 win team for this season that just passed. I say 10-11, because this was a soft schedule and we should have beat VT and Duke.

But we've beaten those teams. What you all need to understand is during rebuilding years teams are going to lose against teams that have seemingly less talent.
Go ask Jimbo about it when FSU lost to WF and NC State. And they really had a major talent advatange over those teams. But they lost. Obviously it wasn't the end of the world for them. Just like its not for us. So get over those losses and the notion that we had some clear talent advantage over the teams you listed.

Yea you may lose some games like that but you also have some quality wins mixed in as well. You saw it with fsu ( Clemson). You like to use Saban at mich st well he beat a pretty good mich team in year 1 while on probation. Saban also did it at bama...harbaugh at Stanford as bad as they were beat number one ranked USC. Countless examples out there. Quality wins mixed in with some let down losses seem to go hand in hand.

Golden has zero quality wins so that's where the concern is. Then you look at his career.......Zero quality wins. This guy has done nothing in his career to make you think he can put it all together.
Nites, you don't think UF was a quality win? They were healthy and more talented. Not Goldens fault that Uf had play their 3rd string Qb and lost 14 players to injuries.
UF was favored to win their division and had gone 11-2 the year before. Obviously the slew of injuries took a toll on their final results. Still doesn't take away from it being a quality win.

Since when is beating a 4-8 team a quality win? Even without the injuries uf was not a good team. At first it looked like it may be a good win interms of recruiting, taking back the state etc but then uf goes out and out recruits Golden ( according to recruit rankings that everyone follows) despite its 4-8 mark. Golden failed to capitalize on a poor season by uf.

Teams are overrated pre season every year. Uf was one of those teams.

Oh how I love dealing in facts:

Golden has been a DC/HC for 13 seasons.

His total defenses have averaged a ranking of 68th.

He's fielded a top 30 overall defense only 2 times in 13 tries.

Over these 13 seasons, he's turned in a defensive unit ranking 80th or worse 46% of the time.

And the most jarring, reality-rattling, teeth-shattering, ******* puckering, wake up in a cold sweat at night fact of em all:

When Al Golden has taken the field against a team that went on to lose 5 or fewer games, he's lost 22 times.

He's won once.

To be fair, the second part of your statement is not accurate if you are including his years as a DC, as you said you were. There were lots of teams with 5 or fewer losses he beat while at UVA.

From 2001 to 2004, the*Cavaliers' defense improved under his tutelage, ranking 108th in total defense in his first year to ranking 18th in total defense in 2004. In the same time period, Virginia's scoring defense went from 74th in the nation (27.6 ppg) to 17th (17.7 ppg) utilizing Golden's*3–4 defense

And then, the spread formation(s) and zone-read game took hold of college football. Must adjust principles to get upfield.

no perspective.. we played UF at full strength, and won.. the fact that they ended up 4-8 after a ton of injuries etc.. doesn't change that.

Morris 4th or 5th round? Immediate loss of credibility there. He'd be a reach for sure in the 6th, he's a 7th round pick at best because of the skills he does have.

I can't for the life of me understand why nobody seems to like Hurns. He's a baller and will be productive in the NFL.

Most here know I've never been a Morris guy in the sense of buying into that huge hype he had. However, some of you are going too far. He's a better prospect (ceiling, potential) than virtually every QB taken in Rounds 5, 6 or 7 over the past 3 years. If I had to guess, he'll be taken somewhere in the 5th by a team that thinks they can mold his skill set (big arm, decent size).

If I'm running an NFL team, I'd take him early 6th and consider him solid value relative to the alternatives usually available in that area.

I don't know about starting but Morris can be a solid 2nd/3rd string qb... He's better than a lot of qbs out there... The guy hasn't sucked... Could his play been better? Yes but too be fair everyone not named Teddy or Johnny has that issue... Too be honest since Golden took over qb hasn't been an issue... It actually kept us in games...

I don't know if that was Golden as much as it was Fisch, because while Fisch was here, our QB's kept us in games. Since Fisch has left, our QB has not.

UF was going to lose at least 5 imo even if they did not have the injuries (thats including the loss to us since they were at full strength). Driskell sucks. I think people seem to forget that other teams had major injuries too. Look at Georgia, they were playing there 3rd and 4th string RBs because all of their guys were hurt all season. Don't tell me losing Gurley was not a bigger loss for them than any injury Uf had, yet Georgia still did pretty good and almost won the east. They had a bunch of very close losses including to a team that went to the national title game against FSU and Georgia should have won that game, but gave up the big bomb near the end. Yes, they did this with a team full of injured players at key positions. They also nearly beat Nebraska in the bowl game with Murray out.

The problem with LEMeyers aka MiamiNights is he is STILL caught up in trying to argue that Shannon wasn't that bad. Shannon was the worst coach in Miami school history, and it's not close. The man can't even land a DC gig. He's a total moron who deserves to be spit on by any true Cane fan.

However, Nites is right in that Al Golden has proven to be a guy who can't beat good teams/coaches. Guy is a fraud. But like Randy, he said exactly what the admin wants to hear which is "good grades, graduate, good behavior". Thats the only thing the **** school cares about with its football program these days.

I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot barge pole.

Give me a STs contributor with that 6th round pick instead.

Punters dont get drafted anymore, since the NFL went to a 7 round draft. That said, it would not surprise me if Pat O'Donnell is the best punter in the NFL in the next couple years. He's that good IMO.

I agree. I haven't seen a punter with a leg like O'Donnell in years. He might be the second coming of Jeff Feagles.

I'm guessing you don't consider Andre Debose part of uf's team then? What about starting rt Chaz green? Lg max Garcia? Lt dj humphries? C Jonathan Harrison. ? Rt Tyler Moore? Rg Jon halapio? All those guys missed all or part of the Miami game. You call that full strength?

Seems like you lack proper perspective and an honest approach amongst other things. You just got caught in a lie on football message board.

It's incredible to me how underrated Allen hurns is. Absolutely incredible. To say he does not run precise routes is insane. Seriously damages credibility or integrity of this article.
