Canes in the Pros

Adrian Del Castillo: Batting .148 in high A after 81 AB's. He's also thrown out a measly 11% of baserunners.
Carl Chester: Released by the Rangers in March after reaching AAA.
David Thompson: Elected for free agency in '21, last played in the Dominican Winter league this past winter. Also reached AAA.

Adrian Del Castillo: Batting .188 on the season and has thrown out just 16% of baserunners. It doesn't' look like he'll be sticking at catcher long-term. With the exception of the shortened 2020 season, Del Castillo's BA has dropped every year since his freshman season and throughout pro ball.

Michael Amditis: Batting .196 after a .198 campaign the year before. Has thrown out 23% of baserunners. As a 37th Rd pick, his release seems imminent.

Jake Smith: 1-3 with a 3.80 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. Solid if not unspectacular numbers in high A.

Chris McMahon: Has not pitched this season due to an oblique injury. (How long does that take to heal?)

Andrew Cabezas: Promoted to AA where he's pitching a 3.86 ERA and an excellent .94 WHIP. Great news for a 34th Rd pick.

Freddy Zamora: Slashing an unimpressive .209/.270/.286 in AA

Ryan Jackson: Remember him? 34 yo now and is still playing Indy ball after having a cup of coffee in the majors a decade ago.

Ray Gil: Signed with Boise of the Frontier League. Batting .280 with 7 HR'S.

Slade Cecconi: 4-3 with a 4.36 ERA in AA.

Brian Van Belle: 5.99 ERA between high A and AA this season.

Not quite a Cane- Irv Carter: After sitting out his first year in pro ball, young Irv holds an 8.59 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in the FCL.

McMahon - Depending on the severity it can take 8-12 weeks. Scherzer had a minor one and it was 7 weeks.

I spent the better part of 2 years trying to explain to people that ADC wasn’t a catcher and certainly wouldn’t stick there in the pros.

Alex Toral took a job in the Frontier league. He's teammates with none other than Mike Mediavilla.

He will hit a couple Hr’s in that league because some of those parks are short. But life after baseball is coming up quick for him.

Jacob Burke is off to a nice start to his pro career. He's slashing .333/.429 with a HR in 3 games for the White Sox Rookie affiliate.. Willie Abreu is back in pro baseball. He has 13 HR's for the Kansas City Monarchs, an indy club in the AA league. David Thompson is his teammate who has 18 HR's for the season.

Bryan Garcia with his 3rd start in a row tonight (8/15) @ the Guardians. He always gave me heart attacks as a closer, but usually got the job done and closed things out after some drama.

Romy Gonzalez called up by the pale hose yesterday. Made a couple of nice plays at SS and had a hit. I always felt he might make the show w his athletic ability.

Good news is that if they ever decide to remake Major League, they've got plenty of Canes minor leaguers to call up to duty.

ADC (picking up the phone, drunk, hungover in a motel): Yeah?

Charlie Donovan: Hey Adrian! It's Charlie Donovan from the Cleveland Guardians!

ADC: ....Yeah...

Charlie Donovan: We'd love for you to come to spring training for a shot at this year's club.

ADC (yelling, still hungover): Is that you Lala?

Charlie Donovan (confused): What?

ADC: This isn't very funny, you know? I'm hungover, my knees are killing me, and if you were gonna pull this **** at least you coulda said you were from the Yankees. *hangs up phone, scene*

Just looked up a few guys. Romero will probably be in Indy ball by next year. If he doesnt start hitting his value is nothing because it wasnt as if he was an elite Def guy.

Garland had a rough third outing.

Burke doing ok at A ball but at 21/22 years old he will need to do more.

Palmquist only threw 1 inning. I still think he should work on getting 2-3 more MPH and more bit on the slider and become a specialist.

Jake Smith doing pretty well in A ball...should be in AA next year and is progressing nicely.

Del Castillo down to .178 so his time may be coming to an end.

Vilar hitting a little but no pop so far.

Slade C is in AA and putting up solid numbers. Next year if he makes progress he could be a late call up.

Zamora out since May...they have some money tied up in him so he should get another 1-2 years despite his lack of offense

McKendry - AA doing pretty well. Another guy who has a chance to get he call in 1-2 years if they keep up.

A few of these arms have come along nicely..COVID set some of them back or we may have even seen 1-2 of them in the shot.

Thanks for update. Really surprised ADC regressed so much from his Fr/So years - his swing was pure and he had a great eye to go with it. He's still young though.

2022 Draft Post-Mortem

Note: It’s more and more common for teams to give newly drafted pitchers limited innings or just redshirt them altogether these days.

Carson Palmquist: Pitched one whole inning for the Rockies rookie affiliate. 2 walks and a K.

Alex McFarlane: Threw 8 innings for the Phillies A team and gave up 12 hits, 8 earned runs and 3 walks.

Max Romero: Had 33 plate appearances which yielded a .172 BA and a .273 OBP in A ball.

Jacob Burke: Split time between the White Sox Rk and A affiliates. Had 112 PA’s that produced a .281/.395 and 2 HR stat line. Not bad, Jake.

Jake Garland: 3 IP that resulted in a 12.00 ERA for Oakland’s Rk affiliate.

Jose Izarra: Apparently not good enough to start for the Canes, slashed .391/.440/.435 after getting himself drafted by the Dodgers.

Nicholas Regalado: Another afterthought for the Canes, Nick pitched 4 innings for the Dodgers rookie affiliate to the tune of a 4.50 ERA.

Victor Mederos: Pitched 16 innings for the Angels A+ club that produced a 5.63 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

Could Have Been Club:

Elijah Green: Slashed .302/.404/.535 with two HR’s for the Nats Rk club.

Nazier Mule: DNP. This leads me to believe the Cubs are viewing him as a pitcher.

Indy Canes:

Ray Gil, Alex Toral, and Willie Escala all found employment in indy ball this season, with Gil finding the most success.

All I could say is yikes

I see both Evan McKendry and Slade Cecconi are listed as non roster invites to spring training for their respective organizations
Slade should have a chance at the Show this year. He is ranked as Arizonas 7th best prospect and is Rule 5 eligible, so they’re going to want to see him. Especially since Arizonas staff sucks a whole bag of ****s outside of Gallen and Kelly
