Canes commits/targets in action: 2023 season thread

The Judd stuff is bringing back Sitkowski/Allison memories. Hope there is some improvement over the course of the year.

On the bright side, Kavion Broussard looks to have made significant gains. I'd say he's the most likely to get a bump up to 4* when this film gets around.

5 of 10 passing for 71 yards??? In high school??? With an INT and no TDs!!!

2024 5* Miami WR commit JoJo Trader

2024 5* QB target Air Noland (committed to Ohio State)

I was at this game as my friend’s son plays for Hughes. Noland is enormous. When I saw him on the sideline I thought he was a D-end. All of 6’4” and 220-230lbs. He is a little slow in the pocket, a little lumbering like Jamies Winston. He was good but he also has great talent on that team. They will make a run at another state title.

My buddy coached him growing up and they are still close. He believes the NIL package is 500k.

If you need MORE proof that the ranking system is just a joke watch Noland apparent highlights for a second or two... That kid has worse mechanics than Malik rosier had. If there's anyone who should have the athlete tag applied to them it's him. He's clearly a great athlete but an equally **** QB.

And those are the highlights. I watched a lot of the game because it was on TV. He has bad pocket presence, holds onto the ball too long, floats the ball which would be easy picks for guys like JW or Kinchens. Not saying he can't be a good college QB. But he is a true project. More so than Rashada even.

These HS QBs are a different breed, man. I don't know how you drop 1M+ on the 17/18 year old ones. It's betting on black at a roulette table to me.

Those Air Noland highlights look good. But I actually watched a fair amount of that game on TV and he is far less polished than I thought. I continue to believe we're doing the right thing with QB and not overinvesting there. Of course, we need to actually land those other national elite targets (e.g., DTs) the coaches were bragging about to make the bet pay off.
See my post below. My buddy who is close with Noland says the NIL package from OSU is 500k.

Some far more so than others. Kid throws off the wrong foot half the time. Back foot and doesn't get his hips in line ever. Kid throws lame ducks right and left and that's not just highlights from that game. Kid does that regularly. ***** wild this kid is considered a 5 star QB meanwhile they talk about taking JoJo 5th star cause he's not a lock to play wr... If this kid ends up at a top school I'm not positive QB is what he ends up at... That's just my take.

Thomas also limped off with around 3min left in the half after making a tackle.

Russell came back in to play on the last drive of the half and made a good play TFL.

I just caught up as the game ended. Russell played the second half. He had a 2 or 3 tackles including a big TFL, and has a decent frame. Not a bad player at all. But IMHO, he is not a Miami caliber DT. He didn't even play DT, was asked to set the edge as a standup DE against the Clearwater rushing attack who hd zero passing game. Lots of concerns here. Poor bend, terrible conditioning (got lazy on vast majority of snaps because he was so gassed), no burst, not ball seeking, no lateral quickness. He's G5, not sure he's P5. At least based on the game I just saw. To be fair maybe he's playing injured, that's the only thing I can think of. Second commit I've disagreed with Mario's staff on this class (Judd is the other one) after no disagreements for 2022 and 2023.

As for Thomas, he was out the entire second hald as far as I could see. Hope he's okay. I was impressed by his field awareness when he was on the field. We may have found something there. Not sure of his speed, he didn't get to show it off too much. Columbus opened up the playbook and had a strong passing attack but only in the second half when Thomas was off the field. Game looked entirely different with him out, and I feel like his absence was sorely missed and may have cost Clearwater the game. Need to see more but i like what I saw.
