Canes Camp Report E12-08/15

I posted this on CS a few days ago an I believe it's accurate. F#ck the Gaytors!

"There has been lots of discussion about mismatches and where the advantage truly lies when we get ready to play the Turds on 9/7. I did a little research on the Turds and as of right now, this is what we're looking at.

Turds Offense:

I'm sure the popular perception here is what will our defense do in this game against a team who has talent on offense. The question is how much talent and where are the Turds most dynamic in their offense?

Their biggest weakness is their OL. They've moved tackle, Tyler Moore to guard because of depth issues. Their best OL is probably DJ Humphries, who is a true soph. They have decent size but are razor thin on the OL for depth.

Their biggest pass production was from their TE last season who is now gone and has been replaced on the depth chart by 6'4" 253lbs Clay Burton. I don't think they'll go away from that plan too much as an offense. Also on the TE roster is soph Kent Taylor 6'5" 224lbs.

At WR they have some decent talent in guys like Trey Burton, Latroy Pittman & Dunbar. Debose is out for season with knee injury. Gotta watch Burton & Dunbar!

At RB the Turds are a little thin with Jones being out due to his illness. Nobody is predicting him to be back and as of a today he's still listed as out indef. Even if he's back for our game he will definitely not be 100%.

Next on the depth chart is Mack Brown, who is nothing to write home about, followed by Kelvin Taylor. Taylor is a very good RB but has had issues with ball security, hence why he's behind Brown on the depth chart.

The big match up from our defense will be at the line of scrimmage. I don't believe UF has the depth or talent on the OL to have an effective passing game or running game. If we force Driskell to press and force throws it'll work in our favor. If UF's OL can maintain a pocket, watch for them to utilize their TE's to attack us. Of course they will also try to establish the running game inside but I don't see thy working out very well for them. If they have a single lineman go down they're screwed.

Turds Defense:

General consensus on the Turds defense is their strength is in the DL and CB's. Purifoy & Roberson have great size and speed at the CB positions. The DL seems to have went to more of a run stopping scheme by moving Easely inside to DT. He is very quick but severely undersized to be going up against guys like Feliciano. The turds NT Jacobs is still recovering from a Patella injury and will be back soon. Both DE's, Bullard & Fowler are good but young.

The LB'er corp is average. If Morrison returns for the Miami game (which it appears he will), that will save turds from having to start true fresh Alex Anzalone who is also coming off a knee injury from the second week of spring ball. Their LB'ers are slightly smaller on avg than our LB'ers are.

Marcus Maye has been bumped to starting safety and bring a little extra size to the position, where as the other starter is 5'9" 184lbs.

The Turds do not have great depth on defense either outside of their star players.

Conclusion:

We have way too much depth and talent on offense for the Turds to matchup with us the entire game. Do to injuries sustained in the offseason by the Turds and the amount of talent lost after last season, I do not see them hanging with us for an entire game.
Halftime: 17-10 Canes
Final: 34-17 Canes "

Nobody can touch rudebuddha when it comes to homerism

Team A returns 19 starters including a heisman candidate qb that many experts are touting as one of the most talented qb's in college football, their entire offensive line which looks to be all future NFL players, 2 of whom could be high 1st round draft picks at tackle, a corps of receivers and tight ends that is 3 deep that could be the best group in the country, a defense that is not only experienced, but has put on serious muscle mass in their transition from boys to men, and lastly a once in a lifetime talent at running back, who like the rest of the entire team added strength and size, while learning at the school of hard knocks.

So you think that team will go from getting humiliated by NotreDame/KSU to blow-out UF in 1 offseason?

On paper, no question that team is beastly good, but on the field against great opponents, they haven't done **** last year. Let's wait to see the FAU blow-out before crowning them....

I think fans really forget that the last season is literally in the past. How many examples can you find of teams who do exceptionally better the following year? I mean there's already numerous teams from last year I could use as an example but I remember when the '08 Alabama squad was a huge surprise from the previous season. Their '07 team lost to an FCS school. Also, what about in '08 when we were embarrassed by GT only to blow em out the following year. There's literally almost too many teams to name.

Blow out could happen, , I dont think so. Im more optimistic than ever. but it dont matter how many you return if they are no good, and that is still to be determined. our plus from last yr was offense. I will go on record as not sold on coley yet. a lot of questions.

You know you're dealing with a massive, massive homer when the reply to a one-line post is an internetz version of War and Peace. That brought a lulz to my heart.

And nuthin but love for rude. I wish I could be that confident.

The following was from a USA Today article shortly after the gator loss in the sugar bowl.
Keep in mind that this writer is a gator homer.
It's a good read, particularly about the, supposedly, best secondary in football.

"There are holes too deep to claw out of.

Florida had worked a Houdini act into its routine this season, compiling five comeback wins (Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Louisiana and Florida State) in which it had to pull ahead in the second half to win. And the Gators did their best to work back from a massive 24-3 hole in the Superdome on Wednesday night, resorting to a trick play on fourth down to pull back to 24-10 at halftime, trying a surprise onside kick on the second half kickoff, and reaching deep into Brent Pease's bag of fun to take unorthodox cuts at a surprisingly stout Louisville defense.

It didn't help, not even with Andre Debose coming on like a comet with a brilliant 100-yard kickoff return touchdown and Matt Jones running like a stallion on his few carries that also featured daylight. Florida fell to 0-16 since 2004 when trailing by 14 or more points, and has no easy answers for a problem that plagues every team, but sinks Florida more often than most: Those 16 losses are more than half of the Gators' 28 since 2004, Ron Zook's final year in Gainesville, suggesting that when the Gators lose, they lose.

There is a college quarterback better than that freshman who won the Heisman.

His name is Teddy Bridgewater. He performed surgery on one of the nation's best secondaries, and delivered one of the best throws I've seen in person to DeVante Parker for Louisville's third touchdown of the night, the back-breaker that put Florida in its 24-3 hole.

Bridgewater's a patient, polished passer who was impossible for Florida to rattle, despite the Gators' five sacks. He made plays with his feet on the hoof and as a passer, and he rifled the ball into windows that made Louisville lethal on passing downs.

Football is the manipulation of geometry and physics at speed more than almost any other sport, and the passing game is unstoppable if performed perfectly. Bridgewater made sure it was, time and time again, and there was very little Florida could do against him.

I hope to **** that Florida never sees Manziel again, except maybe in an SEC Championship Game. But if Florida sees Teddy Bridgewater again, I will believe until 0:00 on the clock with the Gators ahead that Louisville can win that game. He's that good.

Florida wasn't good enough to lose the turnover battle in 2012.

Cynics and FSU fans interested in diminishing the accomplishments of a Florida team that still has a résumé better than almost any other in the country will say that Florida was reliant on turnovers in its wins. That's fair, to some extent: Florida was +20 in turnover margin in its 11 wins, and -5 in its two losses after its -2 night against Louisville.

But Florida not only committed turnovers in those two games, it committed crippling ones: The Gators' first fumble against the Bulldogs earned them a 7-0 deficit; Driskel's first pick against Louisville was six points for the Cardinals in seconds. Driakel's fumble almost put the Gators in a 37-10 hole, but downright superhuman work from the Florida defense pushed Louisville back, and the Cardinals' John Wallace pushed that attempt left. And Driskel's pick in the red zone scuttled all but the wildest possible comeback attempts: Had he thrown a touchdown pass instead, Florida would have been down two touchdowns with about 12 minutes to go.

And Florida scored two touchdowns in those 12 minutes. So.

Turnovers are almost always very bad when they happen to you and very good when they happen for you, and Florida got a few very good games (South Carolina, Florida State, and LSU — in which the one more turnover the Gators got was one of the biggest in college football this year) and a pair of very bad ones this year. That happens. Let's not pretend that a 10-point loss with a -2 turnover margin is an extraordinary and revelatory result.

Florida's corners are not as good as previously advertised.

Loucheiz Purifoy getting hurt in the second half didn't help, but Jaylen Watkins had by far his worst game as a Gator on Wednesday ... and he was part of the meltdown in 2011 against Georgia in which Aaron Murray threw 53* touchdowns on fades on fourth down. (*It felt that way, anyway.) He was slow getting out of breaks and left receivers open repeatedly, a fatal mistake done even once or twice against Bridgewater, and he bit on a move that allowed Bridgewater to throw over him for Louisville's final touchdown.

Marcus Roberson has gambled too much and did gamble too much and probably will always gamble too much. He's a good corner when those gambles pay off; he's just decent when they don't.

And, this year, beyond the two of them and Purifoy, there was nothing. Cody Riggs' injury really hurt Florida's depth in the secondary, where five players (and De'Ante Saunders, when not hurt/"hurt") handled somewhere north of 85 pecent of the meaningful snaps, but Florida was reluctant to roll out Brian Poole (who struggled in coverage, though he flashed good press skills, in the fall practice I saw) despite burning his redshirt, could just use Elam as a nickel corner on every play, and just didn't have anyone else worth using.

That'll change, because incoming superstar corner Vernon Hargreaves III is, by all accounts, already somewhat beyond the level that Roberson and Watkins played at tonight, and because Riggs will be back, and because a year of growth will only help Poole and others. But it was crystal clear that Bridgewater would have open men all night from early on, and Bridgewater was just not going to miss them."

I agree with you about everything. This defense has lost there best player at every level from last year (Floyd at DT, Bostic at MLB, & Elam at Safety). It's highly unlikely that there Defense will not miss a step, being that all 3 of them are starting for there NFL teams this preseason and 2 of there was 1st rounders. Not to mention there starting MLB is suspended for the game & I have read one of the gator message board to see if they think he will be coming back. The last article (this week) written about him gave no inclination that he will be back for the Miami game. The gator were kind of scared that Muschamp isn't budging on the suspension. Some gator fan said they really need him back for the game because Miami will be the best offense they will see all year. At least they are smart enough to acknowledge that we have a very strong offense.

Despite the great videos and interviews...I'm still worried about the Defense. Anyone who thinks the Gainesville Gator game will be easy IMO can't be looking at the game objectively. We will need our A game and then some to win that one. I'm sure the Gainesville Gators want to put the Loserville game behind them and prove it was a fluke. I believe a bad loss (ND/KSU style) will put a significant damper on all the momentum we have going on right now. Season cannot get here enough so I can put all my worries to rest one way or another.

If we play our "A" game we will blow them out. "A game and then some," it will be truly unbearable for gators to watch.
You guys act like the gators are the 2001 Miami team. It's not like Florida is a perennial national champion.
I may be wrong on this, but aren't they returning something like 4 starters for the whole team?
I think we return 5 starters on our offensive line.

Now, gators will say, "we just reload." Another cliche which Miami originated, and everyone else tries to adopt.
The reality is reloading is bull**** in college football.
You can't replace the vast majority of your starters and expect great results, because practice reps are never a substitute for starting game reps.
Teams filled with 1st year starters, and with true freshmen throughout the 2 deep may not consistently get hammered, but they also very rarely excel.

Might it just be possible that everybody is looking at the gators and see the potential for the team after a year of seasoning, instead of what this team really is: a talented yet vastly inexperienced team filled with last year's backups, red shirt 1st timers, and freshmen who have yet to prove anything.

I may be in the minority, but I see this gator team going something like 8-5 this year, without a good win against a real good team, and playing in the SEC's 5th-6th bowl game.

Been saying the same thing. The Gators aren't just going to reload. People also forget that Urban left UF in shambles. When Muschamp came in he had to do some house cleaning. Their roster numbers aren't where they need to be right now to be able to reload. They had their run of dominance but I think they are going to take lumps again this season.

LOL @ Muschamp "cleaning up" after Urban. Urban Meyer is ten times the coach Will Muschamp is, Will Muschamp does not clean up after Urban Meyer.

KSU went from beating us on the last play of the game to blowing us out in one year. I don't think the one year thing has any meaning at all. Look at the matchups and draw your conclusions based on those matchups. Don't worry about what we did against ND on the road last year.

Said it before and I'll say it again.

The biggest advantage we have and the reason I think we will win the game has everything to do with the guys that will be wearing headphones not shoulder pads.

That ND game was a fluke they was not better then us last year (watch the film) KSU i give them props for having a great oline but they wasnt a better "team" we could have beat them 3 out of 5

You serious? ND was blowing our D line 5 yards off the LOS on every single play.

We wouldn't have beaten KSU 3 out of 5 either....their offense could have ran bubble screens for 20 yards all day. I was watching the game at a buddy's house (fan of big 10 team) and he was laughing how bad we were on defense. Their 3rd string running back and was going for 10 yards a pop.

Hopefully this years defense is a slightly different tale.

Am I the only one that doesn't give a toss about the Gators until the week leading up to the game?

Sure it's a huge game on our schedule, but I'd rather take it a week at a time, rack the wins up, then focus on the Gators.
