Canes Camp Report E12-08/15

Despite the great videos and interviews...I'm still worried about the Defense. Anyone who thinks the Gainesville Gator game will be easy IMO can't be looking at the game objectively. We will need our A game and then some to win that one. I'm sure the Gainesville Gators want to put the Loserville game behind them and prove it was a fluke. I believe a bad loss (ND/KSU style) will put a significant damper on all the momentum we have going on right now. Season cannot get here enough so I can put all my worries to rest one way or another.

If we play our "A" game we will blow them out. "A game and then some," it will be truly unbearable for gators to watch.
You guys act like the gators are the 2001 Miami team. It's not like Florida is a perennial national champion.
I may be wrong on this, but aren't they returning something like 4 starters for the whole team?
I think we return 5 starters on our offensive line.

Now, gators will say, "we just reload." Another cliche which Miami originated, and everyone else tries to adopt.
The reality is reloading is bull**** in college football.
You can't replace the vast majority of your starters and expect great results, because practice reps are never a substitute for starting game reps.
Teams filled with 1st year starters, and with true freshmen throughout the 2 deep may not consistently get hammered, but they also very rarely excel.

Might it just be possible that everybody is looking at the gators and see the potential for the team after a year of seasoning, instead of what this team really is: a talented yet vastly inexperienced team filled with last year's backups, red shirt 1st timers, and freshmen who have yet to prove anything.

I may be in the minority, but I see this gator team going something like 8-5 this year, without a good win against a real good team, and playing in the SEC's 5th-6th bowl game.

Malcolm's catch in the BC game last year here he caught the slant and scored late in the game I was like WOW...he should be returning punts not free catch Dorsett...then the GT tragedy....guy has moves and vision..

Been saying the same thing. The Gators aren't just going to reload. People also forget that Urban left UF in shambles. When Muschamp came in he had to do some house cleaning. Their roster numbers aren't where they need to be right now to be able to reload. They had their run of dominance but I think they are going to take lumps again this season.

We aren't blowing them out, foos.

When was the last time we blew out a good team? 2005? **** near a decade ago? I'll settle for a win. Of any margin.

If we wind up curb-stomping them, I'll gladly bathe in an avalance of negs on here. I'll lick every last neg up like truffle butter.

am I the only one nervous about the online getting a push against good dlines? we struggles with it last year and from the limited 1 on 1's I've saw the Dline are mostly holding thier own which is a win for the defense

Oh I don't think Miami blows the Gaytors out but I think Miami will win this game. UF lost so much on Defense, Speacial Teams, and Offense to just pick up where they left off last season. I expect Miami will make a huge leap forward even on offense. You also know **** well UF has been circled on the schedule and Golden sure as **** has been planning like crazy for this game.

1 on 1's mean nothing come game time. You have to judge the O-line as a whole unit. We'll see soon enough. I expect them to be good but people get a little crazy thinking any O-line is just going to run right over teams.

None of our OL are exceptionally good at run blocking aside from Feliciano and Flowers.

Seantrel, Linder, Bunche are top heavy and can't stay on their feet.

McDermott is prone to getting handled by bigger/stronger DTs.

I'm as big a homer as the next guy but what the **** have we shown that suggests we will blow out UF?

It should be a close game and we are going to play well do beat them.

I feel the same way. We havent been able to run on good teams in a loooong time. Everything else that we wanted to see improvements on we have heard from top down been talked about in the offseason (strength, getting bigger, Better Defense and pass rush, Morris flaws, etc. ) but I havent heard anyone mention that we couldnt run on anybody when it counted. Not from Golden, not from Kehoe, not from any of the olineman. Now with pass pro we are really good. But running the ball, we leave alot to be desired. I wish this was at the top of the list because this is where the toughness is really challenged. Can you run the ball when you need a yard

It's been discussed a bit on this board and was one of my main concerns this offseason. I do think part of it is playcalling not instilling that mentality or consistency of committing to the running game to get into a groove. But, I also think a little bit of it had to do with Mike James' running style. Love the guy for his attitude and hard work but he had poor vision and would ALWAYS dance in the backfield. People saw his size and listed weight and assumed he was "thunder", but he ran like a small RB.

Nobody can touch rudebuddha when it comes to homerism

Team A returns 19 starters including a heisman candidate qb that many experts are touting as one of the most talented qb's in college football, their entire offensive line which looks to be all future NFL players, 2 of whom could be high 1st round draft picks at tackle, a corps of receivers and tight ends that is 3 deep that could be the best group in the country, a defense that is not only experienced, but has put on serious muscle mass in their transition from boys to men, and lastly a once in a lifetime talent at running back, who like the rest of the entire team added strength and size, while learning at the school of hard knocks.

Team B has to replace practically their whole team, except for a running qb who just had an internal organ removed, a quick, fast, yet undersized dt in Easley, a good, but not great cb in Purifoy, and who else?
Yes team B has talent like their buck linebacker Powell, coming off acl surgery, and a bunch of young freshmen and 1st time starters.
Team B has a lot of potential if every single 1st time starter reaches their potential, like their starting rb who might be a freshman, their starting wr's which might be freshmen, their safeties which might include freshmen, their o line which hasn't shown it can stay healthy much less block anyone, the physically weakened qb who looks like he has to really develop to become just someone the fans don't want to throw rotten vegetables at.

I've seen a lot of football teams in my many decades, and its not often you see a team as a pre season top 10 team strictly because it is an SEC team, regardless of the fact that most of the starters are gone.

I may be completely wrong, but I think the reality of Miami versus Florida is much closer to my 56-17 prediction than all these, "we have to play perfect to keep it close"

For Christ's sake, I can't be the only one who has seen the transformation of our team from last year. We aren't rolling out 275 lb inexperienced dt's, 210-225lb linebackers, 2 1st year starters at cb, a 1st year qb, wr's etc.
The above description sounds like Florida this year except they are much less experienced.

But they are in the SEC so they must be great?

Fuuck that. Try selling your gator dreams elsewhere.
