Canes #11/13 (Coach/AP) - 2.20.23

I think we'll be dropping out of the polls this week, or sitting at 24/25. 9 games left for us: Virginia Tech, @Clemson, Duke, Louisville, @UNC, Wake Forest, @ Virginia Tech, Florida State and Pittsburgh to finish the season.

I feel we’ve lost how to finish teams off , it looks like we lose focus and we have heavy legs with lead in under 5 minutes left .
Even the announcers see this in blowing leads we get very complacent. We’ll stay out of top 25 the rest of the way , we’re just an easy target .

Please don’t bank on Sweet Sixteen, please don’t do it. I don’t see a tournament team in closing minutes at all.
We’re missing killer instinct to finish feeding we get content with our lead and figure that’s enough, this what I see as our problem.

We have the talent but definitely not killer instinct with big teams on the ropes .

Just my opinion

Down to 23 this week. Team could easily have 1-2 losses this year if they know how to close out games. Very frustrating need to beat Va Tech and Clemson this week.
There's another 3-4 games we could have easily lost if we didn't know how to close out games. I'm more concerned over Omier starting to wear down a bit from playing so many tough minutes. Sure wish we had a good inside option to give him a few more blows during games.

Beating VT and Clemson are a tall order but ... ur right, we need to add these to our W column, and we're certainly capable of doing so.

College basketball is inherently frustrating. Nature of the beast!

Well we did have comfortable leads against teams like Cornell and Virginia that were made interesting. No killer instinct from this team.

Omier has done well staying out of foul trouble the last few games. At this point I would give Aire some time...he has to be a better option than Walker. We definitely need another big man for next year.

I agree on the lack of killer instinct. We really haven't put too many opponents of any note away this season.

Anyone know what our record (ACC and overall) was after 21 games last season?

16-5 (8-2). Those 2 losses were each by a point to FSU and then the 3 non conference ones were blowouts to Dayton and Bama and then a 6 point loss to UCF which in the end wasn't a bad loss.

Love the job Dusty May is doing at FAU but no way in **** that team should be ranked ahead of Miami. They haven't beaten anyone. Only P5 games they've played were early in the season vs. Ole Miss (double digit loss) and a 2pt win vs uf. Sometimes I wonder if these pollsters actually pay attention.

I believe the single best ranking system is the ESPN Resume ranking (here: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bpi/_/view/resume).

We have dropped to 26th, and I think that is a very fair reflection of where and who we are as a team right now.

I think we’re lucky to have stayed ranked in the polls this week, and the next couple games are critical to both tournament seeding and team confidence/momentum.

My biggest hope is that the team is mad as **** and comes out and plays 40 minutes of desperate basketball (on the defensive end) tomorrow.

my hope as well. And we’ve seen it with L’s teams before…

With that being said though I’m struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel given this teams woes defensively, trouble on the glass at the worst times, lack of killer instinct, and Omier’s consistent foul troubles. Hope I’m off but I’m also ecstatic we have handled business at home because if some of those home games went the other way we are likely looking like a “on the bubble team”.

Need to wake up and get hot to close out the year.

We’re not a top 25 team right now. We’ve alternated W & L for the past month and I look for that to continue this week.

Miami's last 4 losses has been by a combined 13 pts to ACC teams on the road. The last 3 losses by a combined 7 pts including the OT loss to NCSt on the road. In addition, in that same span we've had 4 wins vs ACC foes. 3 wins were by double digits including the 20+ point win vs fsu. Miami is clearly a top 25 team right now. Close out strong by winning 6 or 7 of the remaining 9 regular season games and we should be able to climb into the top 15. Not sure some of you understand how difficult it is to win conference games on the road.

I've been preaching this for a while now but when you have leads like you did against Ga Tech and Pitt late in games there is no excuse to lose. NC State and Duke I could excuse.

We laid a complete egg at GT. NC State was a back and forth game. So was Duke, and refs screwed us. Pitt was a complete collapse and 100% inexcusable.
