Camp Surprise: Braxton Berrios

Ya'll might think im crazy but when Berrios really comes into his own in a year, it would not surprise me if Coley throws in a wildcat package just to have Braxton make magic out of nothing. This kid is gonna be that good. I have no doubts he will make an impact this year. Golden already stated that this kid would do special things on special teams. However he has been shining so much I don't think special teams is the only place we will see him this year! Madd excited about what he will bring to the table. Call me crazy but with are already talented rec'n corps, adding Berrios to the mix and we have the best receiving squad in terms of talent and upside in the ACC.

You're crazy.

Closer to impossible to cover. A guy with his quickness and feet, he'll have defenders tripping over themselves. In this day and age where teams like to have big corners, a short guy with insane quickness can and WILL get open, a lot. His skill set is unlike anyone we've had here in a long time.

I said it after the class was signed and I watched a ton of tape. The 2014 class is one of our best ever. Play makers everywhere. To think the 2015 and 16 classes are looking solid already... Man, it's a good time to be a Cane. Things are changing.
I remember watching the Dolphins - Jets back in the day and getting so frustrated over the number of catches Wayne Chrebet would rack up against us. I think Berrios can have that type of impact. One of those guys who is just insanely hard to cover.

It's always a good time to be a Miami Hurricane! We struggle together only to strive together in the end. No chains can hold us down and no team can bring us down. We ourselves are our own worst enemies but this year all of that will change. Kaaya "The Messiah" will start by bringing down the iron fist upon Louisville Sept. 1st, erasing away all history from last year's bowl game.

In a year or two I would love to see BB featured like Wesley Carroll was in the slot.

Wesley Carroll, the original slot WR at UM. Ol' 81 was actually listed as a 'tailback' in ERRickson's offensive system

That's right. If you remember that '89 season he would actually motion out from the TB position. It was an instant mismatch against a linebacker or safety.

The white Thearon Collier, clutch factor

Thearon was that dude!

Was pretty underrated by our fan base while he was here...but I was always a fan of Collier's skill set. He could have been a nice player had he not had some knucklehead moments off the field. There's something to be said for a slot guy who has quick feet and knows how to get open. Measurables aren't as important when you're talking about guys with these traits.

With all that being said...everything I've read and seen on Berrios points to the fact he has the exact same skillset....and presumably minus the knucklehead factor. Looking forward to watching this kid play.

Some of you guys realize that Collier was kicked out of school, averaged under 7 yards a punt return and didn't even have 600 yards receiving in his career, right?

Berrios. Is extremely athletically gifted too. The faster, more athletic Wes Welker I would say. Berrios strong as **** too for a little guy. Heard he's one of our weight room warriors already.

40+ inch vertical.
Legit 4.5-4.4 speed
3.81 shuttle

On top of all that. Slippery as ****, natural with the ball in his hands. And great moves. And did I mention great hands?

Even though I think Lewis is a stud in the slot and is gonna be a very good one for us the next 2-3 years especially being healthy now.

Berrios has a huge ceiling as a player. I don't only see him playing in the slot. Staff will work in the future to have both Lewis and Berrios on the field.

Berrios is very versatile. I think Malcolm a pure slot guy, but Berrios could play any spot at receiver.

Telling you, Berrios will definitely work his way into the rotation and make it a 5 man rotation with Coley, Dorsett, Waters and Lewis.

Gonna be hard to keep him off the field.

And by the way. Wesley Carroll was a beast. We were loaded at receiver during that time. Think our group has the potential to be like the groups of the 80's to early 90's and the late 90s early 2000s

If this dude were black we'd be comparing him to Tavon Austin. He's better than everybody he's been compared to in this thread IMO.

He's an elite athlete and not just a "technician."

I compared him to Tavon during his recruitment, but would need to see him at this level because I watched a ****load of QB runs. The crazy part about all of this is that his specific skill set is suddenly a premium in the NFL, which really just means offenses are being formulated to feed guys like Berrios.

Austin looks like a smurf compared to this kid and most certainly at this stage as a true freshman. Like I said he has the body of an upperclassman. That is incredibly rare.

Still think he should redshirt...too soon from ACL tear..Id rather be cautious because WR s houldnt be a problem this year

I concur. Let Tweeter heal completely and get that shirt. He's going to make Kaaya some money.

When you have guys like Jeremy Kerley, who doesn't even have the long speed, doing things in the NFL, you know it's a vital position. With the more exotic and attacking front 7s now (not necessarily that we'd know a lot about that), QBs absolutely need this role.

What do you do if he's going full speed, taking full contact and shining already? You're not saving him from any potential injury by keeping him out of games, no?

Sure, but as a true freshman, he caught 26 balls and had over 300 yards receiving. More than that, he always converted. I don't think anyone is saying he was a great prospect. I think people are noting he was overlooked because of his size and speed issues, but came in and made plays because of steady hands. I think that's the context people were bringing up his name in relation to Berrios.

Austin ran a 4.01 shuttle and Berrios ran a 3.81.

Brandin Cooks tied a combine best this past year by running a 3.81.

However you slice it, Berrios has truly elite stop and start quickness.

I'm sure the testing at The Opening is not as precise as the testing at The NFL Combine but like you said, either way he has elite quickness.

The national Sparq director runs it. Its pretty legit.

Yup. It's the ability to make in instant impact is why I compared Berrios to him and always have. Berrios is obviously more gifted physically but that's not the whole story. Still love watching that Collier punt return against UVA though.

You play your best players unless you are us in say 2001/2002, where you had AAs backing up AAs at multiple positions.

I remember seeing highlights of him at the 7-on-7 camps. Every time he scored he did the Superman. I said "wow, what a ****y SOB." He then committed to Miami and I giggled with joy.
