Camp Surprise: Braxton Berrios

Hopefully he is like the older Shipley was for UT and we hear Kaaya to Berrios a lot over the next few years.

Guy was incredible as a true freshman. Just made plays. He wasn't fast, but had great feet. Berrios is quicker and faster. Might not have the same wingspan.

JHall, when I say size issues, I also mean wingspan and arm length. Usually, it takes a period of transition to get accustomed to every defender being lengthy and strong.

Yeah, but I expect him to play in the slot so I wouldn't worry too much about him getting off jams at the LOS. Of course he won't be winning many jump balls, but if he's able to get a clean release off the LOS he should be able to get open and not worry about being blanked.

One more thing. Even though I see Berrios making his way into the rotation to make it a 5 man rotation early on. I see him making his impact first on the returns. Berrios is just plain sick,
Loved that we got him. Slot and special teams threat.

And **** yeah he's polished for a freshman.

And I think that Jordan Shipley comparison pretty good. Would say Braxton a more physical version and slightly faster and agile. Which is basically. I think Braxton ceiling is, Wes Welker.

But a faster version. Braxton has legit speed. Especially in the first 20 yards.

You just watch his highlights, and the things he does is just insane.

I have the feeling that he'll come up big in some tough situations - key 3rd down catches that are clutch.

Depth and being freshman will probably keep his playting from being consistent - but he strikes me as the type that comes up big in his limited opportunities.

Lets just hope the pass is there.

It's not only jams/jumpballs, but good points all around. Unless we limit him to specific flares and screens, there will be less space than he is accustomed to having. Wingspan/length plays a role. I think some of the best points made were that he came in with pretty good strength (and should continue to build on that) and his feet give him an advantage no matter the situation.

I still can't believe the guy may break Top 5 or 6 on the depth chart. Guys like him are what made us great before. Hungry, no nonsense guys hanging toward the bottom of the depth chart pushing guys like Lewis and Scott (to a lesser degree).

*As a quick add, guys who've watched a lot of practice tell me Scott better get his **** together because Langham and Brady are actually bodying up defenders and making plays. EVERYONE PUSH EVERYONE.

It's amazing he could get PT as a true freshman when we weren't sure about even offering him. Shout out to Kayaa!

NOT COMPARING TO BERRIOS BUT SIMILAR PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES....

Since we have to compare him to a small, white slot receiver.. Why not Michael Campanaro?

I'm not surprised because Coach Golden said on numerous occasions that he expected him to play this year.

Kid is a beast..I think he graduated a class after myself but I remember keeping up with him after I graduated. He put up crazy numbers his senior year in HS. Then went to WF and balled out. Although he's most likely a player on the bubble he now plays for the Ravens. If BB mirrors anyone college career wise, him and Switzer aren't bad comparisons.

The only issue with his size is his height. He is physically put together. Strong and explosive. Definitely further along physically than most freshman receivers.
JHall,
I think his vertical is close to 40 inches which could offset the height issue. I recall when Santana got drafted the reason he went so high at his height was because of his vertical jump.

Imagine what he would have been able to do surrounded by our skill guys. We really have no excuse not to be unstoppable this year.

A faster, quicker, stronger Collier, with better hands.

I meant in terms of making big plays on 3rd down for us, obviously his testing numbers are better. Going to be a heck of a player for us in the future.

Ive never seen his highlights from High School, but he did all that with a QB that didnt deliver the ball quickly and a lot of times looked like he had to slow down or come back to ball to make the catch.

Im excited for what he can do when he doesn't have to slow down to make the catch and Kaaya throwing darts to him on the run

If his vertical is 40", that is just sick. Santana Moss like. As a true freshman even. I know people are impatient and want wins right now, but just think back 6-7 years when we had what, 3 WRs on the roster? Things are changing in a hurry now. The competition is crazy out there. When was the last time we had competition like this all over the field? That is what builds champions, not guys comfortable knowing they are starting.
