Camp Notes Day #3

Armbrister is that dude I've got my eye on this year to come out the woodwerks. He has been quiet but Golden has himself an eye for linebackers and Armbrister is a guy he always praises.

I agree, it's a shame he didn't redshirt but last year he showed flashes of being good. I remember against UNC he blew up a blocker perfectly and took down the RB.

"Graduate P Pat O’Donnell, who spent the previous four years at Cincinnati, was impressive with his punting during Tuesday’s practice. O’Donnell was timed with a 4.71 hangout on one of his kicks."

Yes please.

I think you and I are the only ones. I didn't think he was that bad last year considering it was his 1st year at LB and he was about 215LBs. I hoping he can grab hold of that 5th LB spot and be a solid contributor.

Count me as a fan of The Millionaire. He's a good tough kid with good athletic ability. He might not be Vilma or Morgan, but he can be Darrell McClover.

I know when to quit. But when people go on and on about how well Golden speaks I feel compelled to interject and restore some of the balance.

balance of?

??

My entire point this offseason has centered around people putting AG on a pedestal for things like his speaking ability and marketing prowess. Those things are great, but there's only so much of that I can handle. I'm awaiting placing a crown on his head (at the risk of messing up his hair) until these things begin translating into success on the field, which I fully expect to happen.

Al Golden would probably agree with you.

This tells me all I need to know.....haven't heard words like this from a CANE FB Coach in a long, long time!

Last year the Hurricanes were a surprise first-place team in the Coastal Division of the ACC, and Golden expects them to improve beyond the progress that they have made so far — partially because of the composure the team has shown.

“We haven’t done anything [this season], to temper it even more we were sitting here a year ago telling everyone in the building to block out everything that is going on outside, it’s [from] the same source… the same people who picked us fifth in the Coastal — we finished first last year — are now saying we should finish first.”

“I want to finish four spots above that. Where does that put us in college football? I don’t know, we finished four spots ahead last year, I want us to finish four spots above where [the media] has us this year.”

Golden’s expectations?

“We have a standard of excellence here. Period.

Can't hate on that.

But, I can hate on you not being able to "handle" the excess of it by trolling hard and hating on those that enjoy it. If you fully expect it to manifest on the field, then what's the problem (so long as it does)? It takes a lot to turn the tide on the public perception that surrounds Miami currently.

I'm okay with you hating on my mechanism for getting my point across as I'm not here to make friends. And I do agree that it's taken a Herculean effort on the part of Golden to get people thinking positively about Miami and I've never shied away from giving him credit for that.

So you agree that a Herculean effort is required, you've never shied away from giving him credit for this effort, yet your entire "point this offseason" has been to demean and counter its tangible results (i.e. excitement and positive momentum built through his marketing, interviews, etc.)?

You might have to rethink that one

Until these "tangible results" like excitement and positive momentum are accompanied by sustained success on the field then I'll be here to remind everyone that AG still has plenty to prove.

LOL as if you're operating from some enlightened position. As if everyone isn't fully aware of that.

Newsflash: people like to enjoy their hobbies. Following the canes, talking canes, getting excited about positives is all part of most people's hobby when it comes to following the canes. It seems like you're hobby is trying to feel enlightened and smart by taking the cool contrarian skeptic perspective.

But you're very inconsistent and 2-sided when questioned on this. You state you fully expect the success to manifest this season, yet you feel a need to remind everyone it hasn't happened yet? You yourself expect it to happen, but you want to get on others for doing the same?

I get it. You're a humanitarian. You want to protect people from the possibility of disappointment. What a noble task.

That's it rite there. I guess u can say that I'm on the Golden train pretty hard even tho there haven't been tangible results on the field as of yet. Look at the **** pond he stepped into tho. Look, I ain't gonna bash Randy but he was a horrible HC and left Big Al a bare cupboard and some mal-nutritioned players on the roster. This guy had underachievers from the previous regime his first year and overpowered young kids outta HS starting last year that were straight bullied vs the more experienced teams like KSU and ND. Certain situations take certain more time than others. Let's wait til this year is over with and use it as the barometer before we say anything else. Until then cane on.

cap report #3

STACY COLEY with a a great grab in 11 on 11

Wonder how they plan to keep Stacy Coley off the field if he keeps catching every pass clean with his hands? Haven't seen that around here since Wayne.

was that coley on the first catch?

First catch had to be a starter offensive player as they wear orange jerseys (I think). Maybe Dorsett or Herb, since they stopped using captions and Chip wasnt around to provide commentary I would assume Coley was the over the shoulder corner TD grab

That's not Gunter being abused again, is it?

Dude makes it on these highlights every week.

To be fair to Gunter, I suspect there will be a ton of solid-above average corners that look just as he has looked.

Haven't been this loaded at receiver in a very long time.

Oh no doubt, but jesus, dude is literally on these highlights all the time. LOL

I think Gunt is going to be a 2 down player, pretty good against the run, but tends to get beat deep. I have a feeling on obvious passing downs we will see TH and Crawford with Dortch as the nickel.....
Highsmith on there with a real nice read of the qb for a pick. Kid is very smart, has been playing D for a couple years now, he could possibly become a solid player....
