Cam Ward to Portal

After watching Cam Ward in the Wazzu offense, I can see Ward being quite comfortable with the passing game concepts that were displayed.

Lots of similar formations and similar passing schemes. The biggest adjustment for him will be when its heavier formations and running under center (which the latter Will Howard doesn't do a tonne of either).

I still stick to an original post I have made is that, its 1A and 1B, one will have to adjust to run formations and the other pass formations, both bring a running element to the offense (Ward more towards the D'Eriq King style, which is pocket breakdown plays, and Howard more toward designed ones) but neither is that far off from the other. Neither were really "runners", just a bit of a threat if need be.

It's all about fit to be honest, form a locker room perspective. One is from from west Penn in rural town, the other West Texas rural town and both when to small college towns, so it'll be very interesting what happens.

Again, form a complete football perspective, both provide similar traits, with slight differences. Cam Ward just has me just slightly more concern cause he comes from Incarnate Ward, so naturally fundamentals might be not as strong who was in a Div1 program for the same amount of years, especially under an OC who was a former QB at similar levels with sniffs of the pros.

Apparently a few key boosters are stepping up to give Mario whatever he needs for this portal QB.

There won't be a collective offering a better NIL deal than Miami - preparing to go up to and potentially even beyond $2M for 1 year.

The only chance it doesn't work out for Miami is some kind of deal like Caleb Williams at USC - beyond a private collective funded deal - or hesitation because the HCs perceived identity with QBs.

The feeling is that there is 1% chance it goes beyond Howard or Ward even with those scenarios. The only threat to losing both is USC taking Howard with the pull of Riley's QB resume and Ward being advised to go elsewhere - which they don't think is a problem because his QB coach JP Tillman is Houston based and close with Dawson... and has known Mario dating back to 2020. The first person he sent DJ Lagway's film to in 2020 was Mario Cristobal.
BUT BUT BUT FSU AND UF AND NATIONAL MEDIA SAY WE BROKE CAUSE SEATS IN STANDS!!!!!!

Doubt either Ward or Howard would commit to Miami without visiting other schools. Would be nice but stupid on their part.

Expecting any decision today or tomorrow is absurd.
Besides Texas A&M and Michigan, every competitor we have has several other 4 stars or a 5 star on their roster or committed.

Guaranteed starter + legit oline + money, we're the best option for any transfer QB imo.

USC - Malachi Nelson, 5 star qb + another 4 star
FSU - Three 4 stars including one in current class
OSU - Three 4 stars including one in current class
Michigan - One four star incoming, will probably need a transfer
TAMU - needs a transfer

It's a good approach.

The only loophole to overcome is Mario's perception it seems. It's a big one when everyone else is teamed up negative recruiting Miami and Mario.

We will see if it even matters. Dawson's relationship and familiarity with JP Tillman is huge here.
And the way to overcome that perception is overpay for QB1 if needed this one time, then let him and Dawson cook - and keep your Neanderthal tendencies restricted to keeping your eyes on the OL goons.

Idk but if he were we have the money to pay him so have to assume they accounted for the possibility of both Jeremiah and Cam ward wanting in.
Money is not an issue with JJ, if (big if) he wants in, Miami will make sure he has the best financial package. Which is why I’ve never gave up hope it could happen.

It’s assumed his dad (who’s a cane fan) is leading recruitment from a financial perspective & Miami will make sure his offer is more compensation than any other school. That FSU visit might’ve been what Miami has been in the past, the “hey this is my offer from Noles, can you beat it”…..

Get him on campus this week.

I’ll raise your Herbert example with Anthony Brown + TVD debacle + not bringing in a QB with experience to be #2 in 2023
Brown had his best season as a college player at Oregon and led the Pac 12 in passing yardage. He then had a cup of coffee in the NFL. This is the same Anthony Brown that was a marginal at best QB at Boston College. Chicken salad out of chicken *****.

The Miami QB stuff I'll give you to a certain extent. He inherited the top young QB in the conference in '22 and paired him with an abortion of an OC hire. He then doubled down on him bouncing back in '23 when he should have taken another arm in the portal. How much of that is on TVD and how much of that is on Mario? Probably equal.

Paywall workaround? I give as little money to ESPN as possible...

Just says best fit for kids.

Cam Ward - Ohio State
Dante Moore - Michigan
Will Howard - USC
DJU - FSU
Kyle McCord - Nebraska
TVD - Wisconsin
MJ Morris - Maryland
Will Rogers - Wazzu
Riley Leonard - ND

According to ESPN none of them will pick Miami
none of them are "best fit" for Miami because of Mario's reputation with QBs... we can deny it all we want as Canes homers but there's a narrative out there that is easy to paint that Mario is a QB killer.. and he hasn't helped himself at all with his time here. Justified or not it's out there and it is affecting his ability to sign/recruit top talent at QB...

But Mario is not the OC. And he has built an amazingly talented OL.

Hey, no QBs are a good fit with a great OL, right?

Of course its ESPN so no Miami

They should not write stuff like this becasue while innocuous to us, these players actually think ESPN knows what its talking about and would try to match what they read
