Cal Fans' Behavior

I sat on Cane side next to their band. The F....Miami chant was loud and clear most of the game...until of course they started realizing that the taste of victory was slipping away.

We have grown very, very soft if we are complaining about fans of Cal-Berkeley.

Has anyone looked at the average SAT score of a Cal student? It is 1415.
There was a Gameday sign that read “I thought this was a protest”
Nerds can be annoying but give me a break if you think these nerds were anything more than annoying.

This is like complaining about how rude Vandy or Duke students are. Save those complaints for the SEC schools where the admission criteria is that you graduated high school in; Alabama, Mississippi, S Carolina, Arkansas, etc….and you are still breathing.

Nerds rarely take their football too seriously because none of them will brag about their college football team at an alumni reunion in 15 years. They are more likely to ask whether Cal has a college football team.
I watched on tv, my favorite sign was "You're blocking the entrance to the library".

I love this so much. The way it should be.

Good venue. Passionate fans. Mutual respeK. Tip of the cap when the opponent earns a Dub. 🫡

Totally agree.

I even told those kids after the game that I watch the CIF (California high school football) playoffs on the internet when I can and that I would root for Marin Catholic going forward.

(Marin Catholic is a NorCal football power in the small school division. They've won a couple state championships over the years.)

Home of Cal’s own Jared Goff, first pick of the draft.

I never pay attention to halftime shows. Always go hit the urinal and grab a beer or something to eat. But at this one the ru had synchronized drones lighting up the sky to creat their bear mascot among several other formations. I thought it was super cool. Is that new? Am I showing my ignorance?
Was pretty cool. Wish they would have turned down the big lights

I sat right in the Cal Alumni old money section. 40 yard line, 20 rows up from the Cal bench. Largely respectful folks. Most were just happy to see their stadium full for the first time in ~15 years. (quite the turnout by the Cal faithful - Impressive scene).

There was a group of kids from the Marin Catholic JV football team sitting right behind me. Before the game they were lightly heckling me and my buddy saying that Cal's D was gonna throttle Cam Ward. At one point they all looked at me and did the upside down U. I took a pic of them and told them this is the "before pic," and said I expect them to pose for the After pic when the Canes roll.

They were polite kids but got a little bit aggressive to the point where my buddy turned around and told them to chill out, and they did. Again these were respectful kids, but I was in a section of "golden level alums."

Miami’s 25th-75th percentile SAT scores are 1330-1470, FYI. No need to bow down to them.

UM is a very good school.

I’m comparing the Cal fan base to most SEC schools and saying we are a very soft group of fans if we are rattled by the behavior of the Cal nerds. I would make the same argument about our students. Anyone rattled by the nerds who go to school at UM is pretty soft.

Cal and UM students, for the most part, aren’t trying to fight anyone over losing a football game because those nerds keep sports in perspective, and don’t derive their identity and self worth from a sporting event. Again, I am comparing to the majority of SEC students and fan bases.

And for the record, I mean nerd in the most positive light possible. Both my kids are engineering students/nerds and I would not want it any other way.

I'll put it like this.

In the morning, at 6 am, everything was great.

By 4:30 pm at Tap Haus, I was starting to pick up on a different energy.

And at the game (pre, during, post), I saw some ugly behavior. Florida/Florida-State ugly? Not really.

But all that day-drinking stirred up the beast in many a Bears fan.

I don’t even consider them or Virginia tech rivals

VaTech is absolutely a rival.

Played with regularity when we were both "major independents".

Played annually in the Big East.

Played nealy every year in the ACC.

We have played 41 times, which I believe is the third most frequently we have played any opponent, behind Florida and Florida State.

U sir are truly a gentleman and a scholar. Well played

I have retired from away games as the Canes already test my patience professionally, anybody who crosses me gets my ire by the fúckin bucket full.
