Any chance you can shed some light on the Mario leaving story?

He was offered an olive branch but it wasn't by golden. Dimare wanted Mario back on staff. So golden brought him back but with instant friction & pressure to build his group up while staying to Golden's pr guidelines. Golden refused to ever let the staff speak about anything other than his approved dialogue. Anyone that knows Mario knows all of this was just a way to set him up as a scapegoat. Mario is very vocal to say the least & expressed his opinions from the start internally. So when Saban came a few weeks in and all this nonsense already occurring offering him more than two times his salary here & freedom to do his thing while learning under a real staff Mario jumped at it. With remorse but he took it. Who wouldn't knowing that situation. Who wants to be some morons scapegoat. But to me it's insane that people hate Mario now. Mario was very close to being on this staff. I wonder how that would've been recieved.

Richt got a lot, but not everything he probably wants. He made big hires on the defensive side of the ball which meant he had to make some budget hires on offense, at least until we start winning. I don't see nepotism as bad when it is cheap and I but John Richt came cheap. Is he the best in the business? No, but he has been around his dad and coaching his whole life so I would venture a guess that his base of knowledge is greater than most available hires that are 1) his age, and 2) will work for the salary I suspect he commands.

I have a couple points of disagreement here. First of all, Jon Richts age is important, yes, he may be more qualified than most other 25 year olds, but that's the point, he is 25. Most 25 year olds are not assistant coaches, they are grad assistants.

So comparing him to other 25 year olds is not what we should be doing, we should be comparing him to any coach who would leave their job to come be an assistant at Miami for the salary Jon is getting. I suspect Jon is making at least 150k a year. We can hire coaches for that much who have far more experience.

Look, if Richt coming here was partially contingent on bringing his son along for the ride, that's ok with me. I think it's worth it to have the elder Richt here, I'm just not going to pull punches regarding what I think of the hire of his son.

Just out of curiosity I googled a couple of college qb coaches. Alabama doesn't have one. I assume Lane Kiffin fills that role. Washington has someone about J. Richt's age (from what I can tell) and with a similar background coaching their wide receivers and coordinating their passing game (which I think is fairly equivalent). I don't have time to do it, but I suspect if you went around to major programs you would find at least one young "developmental" coach on each staff, similar to Richt. If that is the case, then I think my argument holds up.

Connections are everything in the coaching world, and I don't think that is a secret. Part of the reason for that, however, is that being around football gives you a leg up on anyone else applying for the job. I am not so quick to dismiss J. Richt as not capable or a good hire based purely on the fact that he got his job because of his dad. CMR seems like an honorable man and I suspect he is equally as hard if not harder on his son.

Honestly you really showing how Lil you know about this university prior to now. We ain't never paid for our assistants let alone a tight ends coach. To be exact he was making 227k with us. He left us for 500k in the first year with a raise of 5k each of the following years. Now I'm done with this cause there's no need for me to justify someone else for you... its irrelevant how you or anyone else chooses to view him. If you plan on being a cane fan you may want to get used to him though.

You're absolutely right. I would be better off saying less. I always give our fan base the benefit of the doubt that they are just misinformed & a Lil truth would help... but here people would rather be miserable & **** on our university. Trust though I got it finally.
