Butler grad transfer OL Tommy Kennedy chooses the Canes

Tommy Starts for us next season, watch this guy's tape.

One of the bigger signings of this class, for all of you insufferable losers.

Has great technique and can really get out there and block on those screen passes. Really like this pickup after seeing more of his film.

moves so much faster than any tackle we have on scholly, and his backpedal is very good as well.

If FSuck or UFag took a graduate transfer from the FCS, who wasnt a consensus All American, didn’t even make first team in his league, and were depending on him to lock down the left tackle spot.......there would be a thread 40 pages long laughing at them.

But some of you are excited about this pick up. Un****ing real.

Oklahoma wanted him and they have the best line in the country.

I get it but that’s a common defense people use for signing questionable recruits. I’m also skeptical of the whole “offer” thing. Unlike Richt and his staff, other staffs throw out offers left and right. No one knows how badly Oklahoma wanted him, if he was even a take for them or if they were just trying to add experienced depth without investing a long term scholarship.

I just don’t think Miami should be expecting a grad transfer from the FCS to come in and lock down the LT spot. I grew up following YSU and 1-AA football. It’s a huge jump to go from blocking those guys to having to block DE from Florida, FSU and VT. We’ve all seen many highly rated, bigger, faster, stronger and more talented OT’s get abused by those guys.

Dee Delaney was an all American stud at the FCS level who was offered by a ton of top schools, and he was serviceable, but shouldn’t have been starting on a Miami team. Kennedy is going to be playing in the trenches and protecting the QB’s backside. That’s a tough jump.

He’s here now and we’re gonna find out real soon if he’s ready. I hope he works out, I’m rooting for him. I want to be wrong. I’m just not gonna be excited about the signing. And I’m not gonna expect him to be an upgrade over anyone on the roster until he actually suits up against Garvin and Rousseau and doesn’t get the AQM rag doll treatment.

I hear you. We won't know if he can make the adjustment until he gets here. I like the feet and I like the technique. The strength will be tested right away. Either way, I'm glad we got him and we need someone like him.

I agree. He’s definitely better than nothing and it’s not like they had other options that filled the need better. I just can’t help but see the hypocrisy of fans who are celebrating this, when they’d be rolling on the floor laughing if it was FSU or Florida. I hope he locks it down, it just shouldn’t be like this in year 3.

This is an old school way of thinking as far as what it should be like. The best player on the team this season was a transfer. Transfers make big impacts every year. The rules are much less restrictive and players are unhappy around the country. We should make it known that we're open to any and all who want in. Got to find an advantage somehow.

No, you’re misunderstanding. I’m fine with transfers. I welcome them. I liked the signing of Asa Martin. Obviously Gerald Willis has been phenomal. Those were both top 100 recruits coming out of high school. Greg Olsen transferred in from ND.

I’m only speaking to this one, specific transfer player. Kennedy is an FCS transfer, who wasn’t even first team all league against supremely inferior competition. That’s a huge difference. And they’re counting on him to step in and challenge for the starting LT spot. Going into year four. An FCS transfer, that was the 3rd or 4th best tackle in his leagu ( not the FCS, but just in his league) is the best option.

As Miami fans we should know how foolish all-conference teams can be. We had the best defense in the conference but that certainly wasn't represented on the all-ACC teams. The other stuff are legitimate concerns.

Like i said before, I hope he balls out and my concern ends up being for not. It was a necessary move given the state of affairs, I just know it’s gonna be an uphill battle for Kennedy.

He’s not just coming from FCS. The Pioneer conference does not offer football scholarships, so most of the players he’s up against are not scholarship athletes. To give you Florida folks some perspective, Stetson and Jacksonville University are in the conference. Also, Drake, where apenny transferred. I imagine, like me, Butler recruited him coming out of high school before he chose a D3 school.
I agree, we need all the help we can get, so he’s well worth bringing in, but temper the expectations. I imagine Oklahoma looked at his athleticism as worth taking a shot at, but didn’t have expectations that he’s coming in and locking down the LT spot right away.

Thread over as far as I'm concerned. Lock thread and take the debate over to the "Film Review: Tommy Kennedy" thread. Lance breaks it down. Most of yall on here are just talking out of your a$$ anyway and don't know what the ***** you are talking about. Just being negative for no reason. Go and see for yourself then judge the kid.

Anytime you can get a plug and play, starting LT, even if it's just for a year, it's certainly a good thing.

This kid will be just fine here. He's a Day 1 starter and at a minimum solidifies a big position of need, if not improving it. Very light on his feet, very solid technique, and he's enrolling in a couple weeks so he has 8 months to gain strength, which he surely will. Big time pick-up here. Clown on the Butler thing all you want, but OL is the hardest position to project and they come from all walks of life. Being from Butler has absolutely zero bearing on how good this kid is and can be.

The tide is turning BOYS.

Next up: a right tackle from Gonzaga

As I was saying...

Look at all you foolish homers in this thread. This kid was from BUTLER! And now you will all wonder why he’s out there in practice getting tossed around like a beach ball at a concert.

You know we aren’t back as a program when we celebrate signing weaklings from some Division 17 basketball school with a highlight tape of himself blocking nerds. I’m pretty sure one D End he faced was in an actual wheelchair.

Raise your expectations and get them back in order.
