Bryce Fitzgerald is not slow

At Safety, he's NOT an impact all over the field. He back-pedals every play, stays deep, and if the ball floats through the air he's gonna snatch it. But that's pretty much it. He's not gonna punish a WR on a short/intermediate route, he's certainly not gonna fill the alley in run support, he's not gonna force many fumbles.

There's A LOT to playing Safety...especially in today's game. And you HAVE TO be willing to support the run. If he's reluctant to tackle 180lb high school RB's, he ain't gonna tackle 215lb college RB's and 245lb TE's.

CB, WR, KR, PR.

Displays “easy speed” on his film. Running by guys while not looking like he’s giving max effort. Doing himself a disservice if he’s intent on defense… Plays safety like a youth ball player that knows he’s the best athlete. Not a lot of great technique, just hovering/baiting QBs. Doesn’t come downhill to tackle AT ALL. Often “catches” or gives ground when tackling. Would be interesting to see his 100m time later in the season, might be getting faster as he develops physically/could get even faster at UM.

Seems simple based on those in the know. Kickoff day 1, compete at punt returner, and wr. Likely won't see much time as a receiver this year outside the 2 gimme games on schedule but that's fine if he can impact specials.

Need to get the ball in his hands. Moves like Jacolby but bigger and faster. Could be a good cover corner and I think it's worth giving him a shot there.

If Fitzgerald doesn't play offense versus us, we beat Columbus by 2 scores easy. He made 2 plays on offense that completely changed the game for them.

He was an impact on offense and special teams.
On the flip side, our offense racked up 450 yards and had their way with Columbus' secondary. (and they didn't avoid Fitzgerald)

🤷🏻‍♂️ Do with that info what you may.
(Did I say that right?)
Which school are you from?

It’s one thing to lack physicality and another to just be flat out scared of it. When i watched his hudl he looked scared, its like someone who is athletic but never played tackle football before and they just suited up for a game

In football that’s a non negotiable. Especially for the positions people think he can be. **** even at returns i don’t want someone like that..Im surprised mario even recruited a player like him

Sounds like an athlete we want on roster that doesn’t quite have a position. We moved a few top athletes around who turned out pretty good football players. Shields, Dallas, Beason come to mind. Hopefully he’ll be one.

Maybe he can be an inverse Sam Shields? Let’s see what the two DB coaches can do with him and if he’s incapable move him to WR. In the meantime he could have a big impact as a returner.

I know we haven’t done great with DB/WR hybrids lately, Marcus Clarke and Malik Curtis. Just have to hope these coaches are better at development. But you don’t want to let a potential local So Fl weapon go somewhere else to be a star. Got to try.

the willingness to hit, your mentality, to me is like punching power in boxing -- you're either born with it, or you're not. And there really is no coaching/training it up. So if this is the case with him..

Then let him be a go-route specialist on offense. I mean, isn't that what this offense is missing at this moment?

Does anyone on here know the kid? Maybe he really wants to try DB so coaches are letting him figure it out. They flat out said they’re looking for physicality, so if he can’t clear that bar, he’s going to be moved.

You’re 100% right, not everyone is born with power and not everyone has the mindset to play a sport like football. Also i think us fans underestimate physicality in positions like wr or cb. Physicality in football isn’t just about hitting or tackling, you are constantly being touched/pushed/grabbed/held. It’s a game of will, man vs man we hear ray lewis and irvin say it all the time

There is no escaping physicality, so yea put em in a go route and pray he runs past a guy every time or is physical enough to make the semi-contested catch? Thats unrealistic and not trustworthy for a coach to put u on the field.

We fall in love with guys who can be one trick ponys, like if this kids best option is go route specialist? Them he shouldn’t be here so let’s hope he can be more

This reminds me of Alvin Harper, or Flipper Anderson. Guys who were incredible at taking the top off a defense, weren't meant to be #1 receivers, but were extremely dangerous. They didn't really have a complete route tree (especially Harper, who was good at the vertical stuff, but not much else).

But their mere threat alongside other recievers made them valuable. I can see Fitzgerald being that kinda guy
