BREAKING: Coach Larranaga to step down as head coach of Canes Hoops

You all love the basketball program so much. Shocked to only see maybe 35 fans in the arena for games.

This is not only stupid, it’s wrong. Students haven’t showed up but paid attendance has actually been surprisingly good considering the struggles the team has faced.

In fact, basketball has definitely outperformed football last year in terms of % of seats filled during games.

There were over 5k at the last game against Presbyterian (I was there).

Adding an extra 2.5 mil to football’s 21mil NIL budget wouldn’t have made an appreciable difference (and in fact basketball likely offers a better ROI than football).

It’s a very unusual troll and hill to die on.

Nobody criticized him more than me. But I will miss the man. He did a lot for this program and we are in the position for the first time to be choosy in who we want as our next HC because of him.

Best memory was going to Albany 2 years ago and winning both games and the game where Angel Rodriguez took over against UF in Gainesville and won. I talked **** the whole party bus on the ride home to Jacksonville after that gator game 🤣

Caputo being floated

If trying to guess what Rad would do- think of the laziest moves possible. Next HC will be someone with a connection to the program, preferably a former assistant coach or player. Who is the JD Arteaga for basketball?

Unless that “big name” is someone previously affiliated with UM, interviewing new candidates is just too much effort for Rad.

Credit to Eichorst for going outside the family and hiring Coach L.

Might be a lateral move tbh. Also feels like he may just stick at Marquette regardless. His Texas tenure seemed miserable, and he’s from Wisconsin.
I can’t disagree right now unless the $$$ makes this a move up.
He probably likes where he is, but his competitive side probably also wants another shot at a bigger name school.

Funny how many of his top players over the years were transfer players. He should have retired 2 years ago. The past two years have been awful. He has looked frustrated, clueless, disconnected and distant. We are worse now than when we hired him. 🤦‍♂️
Before we hired coach L, UM had never been to a Final 4. After hiring Coach L we went to 6 Sweet 16’s, an elite 8 and a Final 4. Now you can argue you meant the current roster, etc…
But Coach L unquestionably raised the program to nation relevance, a place it had not been since Coach Ham.

So how is that worse than before we hired Coach L?

Yea that's a truly ignorant quote but ignorance is par for the course on these boards.

Anyway I thought Coach L would stick it out through the season but I get why he got out now. I am very grateful for his work to make UM basketball relevant and fun. I would like to see an alternate reality where he wasn't hamstrung with the fake FBI investigation bullsh*t. This next hire is crucial.

Yes, he raised the program. Right now our program is worse than what is was when we hired him. The final 8 and final 4 seasons should have been a springboard for great success. Unfortunately, Coach L has been checked out since then and we are now absolutely awful. That too is on L.

On a board with a lot of asinine posts, this might just take the cake.
Have you actually watched our games the last 2 years? If so, what am I missing?

Sure, Coach L elevated the program to our highest level. Right now we are absolutely awful. I believe we are worse now than before we hired him.

He did a great job with transfers. Without them we don't sniff the final 8 and final 4. He now uses transfers as an excuse.

Very curious to see if his press conference comments change the way we approach the basketball program. Perhaps hiring a GM like Saint Bonaventure did with woj. Also he change the program but I don't know if he changed the status what is the final four run really interested to see who we attract I think Jay Wright needs to be at the top of the list I would call him until he hung up on me at least three times.
