Breakdown of assignment weakness

Every year and every offseason anyone that knew anything (including you) said Addae was an issue

Whelp we are dealing with that fallout. We also just missed a lot of high quality names in the portal. I don’t want to just assume but had we gotten rid of Addae sooner I would guess we could have done a better job

But I digress, not much we can do at this point but ride it out and hit it hard this year. It’s a shame really. Had we fired Addae when we should have we might be saying something else. He did get us OJ I’m assuming but that’s about it
He was worse than most (or maybe all) of the coaches that did get fired outside of Gattis. I'm assuming it was because he was expensive but i dont know for sure. That guys ******* sicked though.

Kiko Mauigoa was terrible against the pass last year, and still is.

Wesley Bissainthe was terrible against the pass last year, and still is.

Jaden Harris consistently makes the wrong diagnosis and gets out of position.

Jadais Richard can't cover or tackle.

Powell can't tackle for his life.

Our DBs and LBs are not highly talented. We desperately need Brown back.

Lance Guidry is a **** good defensive coordinator, and he makes very good in-game adjustments.
You do realize every single linebacker ever has issues against the pass unless you wanna roll out the stereotypical...

"Well Ray Lewis....."

To be fair, not defending that clown but Addae wasn’t the only nor biggest problem. There is plenty of blame to go around. Either way, we should not be this thin in position’s of need in year 3.

The 2025 class is going to be elite but I don’t understand why we didn’t prioritize this sooner. Mario seems to focus on certain groups yearly and this will be the class of the secondary.

Guidry also thinks he can turn these projects into quality players but I think we ****ed up. Richard’s is *** and Hill is meh. Powell is okay but a step back from last season. Our portal evaluations needs to be better. The tape is there but I digress. Harris is laughable.

Thankfully, our schedule doesn’t see too many high powered offenses. Louisville is definitely a test and worthy opponent. Clemson could be a problem in the ship game.

Always concerned me how each year we seem to really focus on a couple of positions recruiting wise. Kids don’t stay in school long enough to recruit DTs this year and next year this position and so forth. We need to be balanced there, or otherwise we will always be reactive and putting out fires.

it’s more mental than anything. We don’t have elite Dbs but these guys aren’t just pure trash. Vs cal they gave up 205 yards passing in the 1st half. All of that basically came on 3 plays. They held them to only 78 yards passing in the 2nd half. Wasn’t like they was just throwing the ball all over the field. The qb was 11/22 which is 50%.

So it’s not talent. They have proven they can get the job done. The issue is the mental lapses they have and it leads to the big plays,
I understand that, and I say this with all due respect but there are no excuses for the defense to be constantly hurting itself. If our players are biting or missing assignments then we have poor coaching or stupid players. Either way, it’s a big problem for this season when we face a serious threat.

Again, we don’t have a player on defense that starts for UGA, Bama, TX, or Oregon. Our DB and LB recruiting has been abysmal. We knew this before the season. It’s very clearly a talent and depth issue.

No doubt. Certainly not blaming Addae for everything but also not hiring Jackson until February, almost March didn’t help either. A bunch of head scratching decisions about the secondary has been happening for years and we are paying for it

Personnel wise, Richard and Harris feel like the weakest links. Is there no way to shuffle dudes around so we’re not playing Richard as much? No way Williams and Patterson can be an improvement at S?

Uga secondary has been getting smoked and there fans are complaining. Saying they can’t cover anybody that goes in motion sound familiar?

Are you guys sure you read that article in its entirety?

Because if you did, idk how you can come away with the conclusion its Coaching.

Pretty much every example he highlighted was guys missing plays due to poor eye discipline & not knowing their assignments.

The majority of our big gash yardage plays have been either LB's or Safeties literally not knowing where they're supposed to be in relations to the call of the Defense. That's not Coaching, that's a lack of understanding your assignment because you're either not doing film study or you simply can't retain the information being taught to you.

The LB unit & DB group are abandoning their fundamentals & playing the way they want to, as opposed to what they're being told. Now that you can blame on Coaching, but the majority of the big plays are not of a result of bad Defensive calls, but rather a result of players not trusting what they practiced.
Grant it that the assignments are not being followed, but this is the second year, coaching is responsible for not sitting down players. Defensive line seems solid, seems like Taylor doesn't put up with crap. Williams at safety seems to make plays when he is out there. Also on Powell, they had him working at slot spring, and most of the fall, now they switch him to safety at the last minute. How bad could Kaleb, and Riley (the portal kid from Vanderbilt) be that they couldn't beat out this group?

Pretty good article. We are very undisciplined in the back seven. Guys overcommitting and either ignoring or not knowing their responsibilities has gotten us gouged for huge plays the last two games. For all the worry about our line not being stout enough against the run, it’s actually the bag seven that are killing us. Chasing the big play and leaving your assignment wide open. Crashing on inside runs and leaving nobody to defend the cut back. This should be fundamental stuff but we’ve been over aggressive and undisciplined going back to Manny.

I don’t think it’s quite as bleak as the article paints it. Our guys should know their assignments and play within the system. If they don’t at least have that part down, they’re screwed.
move Kiko to a stand up rusher and thats it for him. time to move on.

more OJ, move porter to outside, meesh to nickel, and Zay to Safety. jades Richard needs to go back to vandy

what? this is ridiculous. Alabama's defense has been getting just worked, really all those teams have warts on defense, Texas hasn't faced anyone that can expose theirs as yet.

UGA will show Texas warts this week, even though Texas wins 27-24.
