Blake James wants an Indoor Practice Facility

Yea...Track, soccer, year around practice events...I see adding a few more dates...again no place to build it

Im sure those will really put butts in the seats and pay for the costs to maintain it. Again, its a dumb investment for us. The Dolphins cant even take care of their own stadium with a billion behind it.

Concerts? Bowl Games? Naming Rights? Concessions?

Yup there is no way to make money on a stadium, that is why Colleges never build them. Oh wait?

Exactly! High School football games could also be scheduled there. International and MLS Soccer (if they bring a team to Miami - calling Mr. Beckham) There's definitely opportunity to make money during off season.

So you want to build another SunLife stadium 20 miles south and use there same exact business plan?

No. The original post had a great response to someone saying we'd only use the stadium 6 or 7 days a year. Which, in reality, would be used more often than that. I simply said there is opportunity to use the stadium (if one were to be built) more than 6 or 7 times a year. I don't know how to be more clear than that.

I am now dumber from having read this thread.

I am all for a indoor practice facility and lights though. The stadium ****...SMH, the deadest horse on the planet for many reasons

Wow, took a while....congrats on the being the first to chime in with this. I can't believe we made it to a 4th page before we got this **** again.

Read the thread....it's been discussed within UM so obviously, it's not as dead as you think. But it's fine....you can just ignore the stadium talk if it really bothers you that much.

Really? It's being discussed...so much that Blake came out today and said that Dolphins Stadium is the only financially viable option?

Or is this a super secret source?

That isn't what I take issue with, I take issue with the fact that he seems to be willing to support a new stadium venture but only if the MONEY is brought to him directly.

I really don't like the idea that our AD has no clue what is available, I take issue that it seems like it needs to be brought to him directly.

Actually I want a stadium not just in another state but in another era.

UM lost big on its Med School expansion gambles. When you combine the Life Science & Technology Park with the new student center on the Gables campus and the huge new lab facilities at RSMAS, UM has spent beaucoup bucks on building projects recently. Shalala can fundraise, but there's a feeling among some faculty members that she's a bit too trigger-happy on these building projects.

And even if we had $1 billion just sitting there and waiting to be used for a new stadium, Coral Gables would take half of it in bribes before they let us tear up their precious overpriced shanties.

does no one else get that even if we did raise the money on a stadium and build it, we'd have an enormous gap in men's and women's spending and that alone would knock us out of title ix compliance? we would have to make up for that disparity by making proportional increases in spending towards our women's sports and/or cut more men's sports. and last time i checked, we really don't have much more room to cut men's sports.

Where you gonna build a stadium, and who's gonna pay for it?

Blah blah blah.

I live in Dallas, and a local high school here just finished building a brand new 30,000 seat stadium at over $60 million.

Another local high school in Dallas is building one just like it to compete. And you're telling me the University of Miami can't keep up with some Texas high school?

I might try and go see a game here. I wish they were playing Southlake in Allen this year.

The Coppell game is on 9/27 and should be a **** of a game. They should be in the national championship discussion. DE Solomon Thomas is one to watch for sure.

Facilities at RSMAS was mostly funded by a government grant.

Wow, that is the defenition of discussing it to be fair...not only that, you have a UM employee telling you it's been discussed...what else do you want? How about you go read somethign else if it bothers you...or do you have some pathalogical need to try and **** on any idea that's outside your idea of what's reasonable?

#Canes AD Blake James on his wants for future: "Lit practice field, indoor practice facility, athletic dining component"

This guy has it going on... He's been a total breath of fresh air! Very proactive and bringing value to the program!

Blake James spoke to the local media today to promote the opening of the brand new Schwartz Center.

After touching on a range of topics, like that he expects to hear word on our NCAA sanctions soon, he made known his desire for an indoor practice facility and lights for Greentree practice field. This would be the next step in terms of facility upgrades for our football program. See his whole press conference here:

If this city was not so corrupt we would have had a new stadium being built the last 5 years of the OB existence at Tropical

Just to put things in perspective on the cost of an indoor facility. Here's a list of ACC schools that have indoor facilities or in the renovations phase of there facility...

1) FSU - $15 Million Dollars - 92,000 Sq ft
2) Syracuse - $17 Million Dollars - 87,000 Sq ft
3) Clemson - $10 Million Dollars - 80,000 Sq ft
4) Duke - $22 Million Dollars - 70,000 Sq ft
5) G Tech - $7 Million Dollars - 88,000 Sq ft
6) Virginia - $13 Million Dollars - 78,000 Sq ft

http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/index.ssf/2013/02/acc_football_facilties.html

So most of these IPF's are more expensive than the total cost of the Schwartz Center (correct me If I'm wrong, but the Schwartz total was $13 million no?).

We ain't poor, we PO....can't afford the OR.

That's what I dont understand stuff like this should be affordable anyway....I know UM (like most schools) has a lot of money somewhere.

You forget we are not a state funded school. Every piece of equipment our hated rivals have, every piece of food they eat on campus, the 3 books they are required to read during 4 years to graduate are all paid for by taxes which Florida residents pay, including Dade County.

No its not. UF's Athletic Department is a separate entity from their school. UM actually has a high donor per alum ratio. Our fund raising compared to their is pretty **** good considering how many more alumni they have. We just havent invested heavily in athletics until recently

Finally some real answers.... UM has been around for how long but ppl act like they are broke, that's bs.

Joe DeCamillis is going nowhere near GTech's shoddy *** indoor facility.

Golden is going to become more and more in demand as he continues to build the University of Miami football program.

Blake James understands that one way to keep Golden here and happy is to upgrade the facilities.

Yes, these plans Blake speaks of are about Miami football… But they ate also about retaining Coach Golden long-term.

100% FALSE!

Blake James is a visionary and a go getter. All you negative Nathaniels trying to clip his wings should just cut it out cuz he was born to fly, baby.
