Blake James wants an Indoor Practice Facility

You would think they would have an indoor practice facility with all the rain that comes with miami. Lights should have been added to green tree. No excuses

I know, it's amazing that we won 5 National Championships without that indoor practice facility. I mean it just starting raining over the last few years.

Sadly, as a gables resident I know they would never allow that. Drop that into Tropical and now we are talking. As far as a multi-use facility.....please don't incorporate soccer! Makes the field too **** wide and the stands start too far away. Obviously if that's the only choice....oh well, but that's the worst aspect of Sun Life.

I believe this as well. Tropical Park or the old zoo.

I hear you guys. But, i wanted to show what a little ambition can bring to the table. This was designed by our students. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
Tropical Park is a viable option but, don't sleep on the Magic City Casino property. If it happens, you heard it hear first.

Just to put things in perspective on the cost of an indoor facility. Here's a list of ACC schools that have indoor facilities or in the renovations phase of there facility...

1) FSU - $15 Million Dollars - 92,000 Sq ft
2) Syracuse - $17 Million Dollars - 87,000 Sq ft
3) Clemson - $10 Million Dollars - 80,000 Sq ft
4) Duke - $22 Million Dollars - 70,000 Sq ft
5) G Tech - $7 Million Dollars - 88,000 Sq ft
6) Virginia - $13 Million Dollars - 78,000 Sq ft

http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/index.ssf/2013/02/acc_football_facilties.html

So most of these IPF's are more expensive than the total cost of the Schwartz Center (correct me If I'm wrong, but the Schwartz total was $13 million no?).

We ain't poor, we PO....can't afford the OR.

That's what I dont understand stuff like this should be affordable anyway....I know UM (like most schools) has a lot of money somewhere.

You forget we are not a state funded school. Every piece of equipment our hated rivals have, every piece of food they eat on campus, the 3 books they are required to read during 4 years to graduate are all paid for by taxes which Florida residents pay, including Dade County.

I saw Miami had **** near a $700 million dollar endowment, wtf is it used for???... and everybody keeps saying how Shalala is such a great school fund raiser, where does the money go towards??

/ on a side note, what does it take for a private school like Miami to become a public state funded school?? or is that impossible.

They demolished the ones behind Pavia. I lived in that **** hole for 2 years as a Fr and So, but it was fun ******* around and giving 0 ***** about messing anything up.

Yup because when you own your own stadium you can only use it for 6 or 7 days a year.

Blind leading the blind!

Yea...Track, soccer, year around practice events...I see adding a few more dates...again no place to build it

Im sure those will really put butts in the seats and pay for the costs to maintain it. Again, its a dumb investment for us. The Dolphins cant even take care of their own stadium with a billion behind it.

Concerts? Bowl Games? Naming Rights? Concessions?

Yup there is no way to make money on a stadium, that is why Colleges never build them. Oh wait?

Exactly! High School football games could also be scheduled there. International and MLS Soccer (if they bring a team to Miami - calling Mr. Beckham) There's definitely opportunity to make money during off season.

So you want to build another SunLife stadium 20 miles south and use there same exact business plan?

It is awesome, it looks great but I think this is very unrealistic (on-campus).

It is not the DONOR's job to come to UM and make it rain on this *****. It is Blake's job to organize and plan for this, hence why I don't think Blake is the man for the job.

That is why I keep saying, how about a NEW plan? With a new fundraising campaign?

Since they make them stop practice cause of a little rain, we need the indoor one. Lights would also be nice. But, our own roofed stadium would do all those things. Joe Robbie or whatever it is called sucks. Fins have not won crap since they went there and neither have we. The Marlins should have it -- they actually won something there. Never be the same without a proper house. We need short fast grass for our atheletes and closer to field for the fans. The OB was the best. Scary as ****, always about to fall down when you stomped your feet, and took you life in your hands getting to and from night games. Crime of century for it to be lost. We will win again, but would be easier with our own house. Still, nice to see some effort to improve facilities.

Technically there is a facility there, and there is an existing infrastructure to support large sporting events. Parking and access are big obstacles building something like that from scratch, and Tropical park already has that to a large degree.

I'll be playing the powerball, you never know.

If you win powerball don't expect to hear from Blake James, he thinks it's the donors job to come suck his cack.

I am now dumber from having read this thread.

I am all for a indoor practice facility and lights though. The stadium ****...SMH, the deadest horse on the planet for many reasons

Wow, took a while....congrats on the being the first to chime in with this. I can't believe we made it to a 4th page before we got this **** again.

Read the thread....it's been discussed within UM so obviously, it's not as dead as you think. But it's fine....you can just ignore the stadium talk if it really bothers you that much.

Really? It's being discussed...so much that Blake came out today and said that Dolphins Stadium is the only financially viable option?

Or is this a super secret source?

Where you gonna build a stadium, and who's gonna pay for it?

Blah blah blah.

I live in Dallas, and a local high school here just finished building a brand new 30,000 seat stadium at over $60 million.

http://www.wfaa.com/sports/high-school/New-60-million-Allen-stadium-one-of-a-kind-164931536.html

Another local high school in Dallas is building one just like it to compete. And you're telling me the University of Miami can't keep up with some Texas high school?

I might try and go see a game here. I wish they were playing Southlake in Allen this year.

I can't let it go Steve.

It is the off season. I can't just let it go.
