Blake James, exceeded expectations in every way. BRAVO!!!

Everyone needs to ask themselves

What year did shalalalala take over?

What did she do since she took over?

I think that sums it up

Yup.

And as it relates to this topic, my best read on Blake James is that he knew the deal when he accepted the job working for ****lala. You do as she says or she will destroy your life. That's how Clintonites roll. Now that ****lala is gone, he has an opportunity to make moves and get things done. Granted, the change in the wind coming from the Board of Trustees is the 2000 pound elephant in this discussion but Blake seems to be getting it done. We'll learn a lot more about him in the years to come.

You are as wrong as wrong gets in this post. donna shalala was all about public relations over substance with total control directly by her. She told al golden not to recruit heavily from south Florida. Sure you can say she wanted UM to win in football but her actions created an environment where it was impossible....and she knew it.

All good things in football have happened because Mark Richt was fired and wanted the job here. All good things in basketball have happened because Jim Larranaga begged for the job. Don't think that any person from the administration is responsible for our success in these two sports right now. It has been blind luck, let's just be grateful and roll with it. Do NOT thank Blake James or Frenk for it and don't blame Shalala for it. You're indicating your lack of understanding of what actually happens when you do. How you guys blame Shalala is beyond me. We left the Big East and Nike under her, leading to massive windfalls in cash for athletics. No **** we have money to hire coaches and build new facilities now.

Yea, anyone who tries to say Shalala was bad for the program doesn't understand what really happens at the []_[]. I think the BOTs have become more realistic and upped their level of commitment to winning. As far as Shalala, most people take that tacky narrative of her being a football-hating troll--when in fact--she's been way more supportive of athletics than Tad Foote ever was.

This is ridiculous. Golden recruited heavily from South Florida, his problem was that he couldn't keep the elite players here. What a stupid argument.

Nah, that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

First for a president who brought in Willie Williams and players of that ilk, who went above and beyond to make him succeed. Then to tell the coach who makes more than you where to recruit is just plain asinine. Again, if she was of that mentality and wanted to puppet the coach she would have hired Alvarez (which, ironically she wouldn't have needed to puppet).

Second, I hate to be that guy, but you've obviously never spent time at the University and can't claim to know the things you all claim to know. Where did you hear that nonsense from?

My man, I can't stand outside your home and claim to know what goes on between you and yours... So likewise, don't speak on what you don't know.

Checkers mentalities.. This is chess.. Ask yourselves this.. How much did players donate to the []_[] under Foote and how much did they donate under Shalala? If anyone would know what the problem was with the football program the players would. Especially the former ones. Show me one article where a former player blames Shalala for micromanaging the program.

Ironically, the former players tended to speak highly of her, especially the 2001 guys. The "Dr. Shalala killed athletics" argument was never rational, it was formulated by a bunch of sidewalk alumni that have never been to Coral Gables. The athletic department's rot can be attributed to the BOT, they are the ones who didn't put Paul Dee(RIP) out to pasture, they were the ones who didn't take note of the arms race going on in the sport. Remember, Dr. Shalala, and Dr. Frenk serve at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees, they can force change whenever they want.

Its a Saturday in the fall. I'd rather watch college football than argue this stuff with you.

That said, suffice it to say you show who you really are when you say "Willie Williams and his ILK." WW is the one example that donna's online henchmen love to bring up in defense of her mandate to golden that he "Recruit a geographically diverse roster." WW was a high GPA kid who had 10 arrests all at a very young age due to a lack of parenting. He was the perfect kid for donna to give another chance to. The fact that it didnt play out for him (in football or life) was all donna needed to have people like you come online and denounce every inner-city kid who grew up in a tough family environment.

My info from within donna's world is solid and on-point and comes from within UM (pssst- and you know it). So please dont post crap from 900 miles away from UM and tell me that I cannot have any inside knowledge simply because I post from 2500 miles away from UM. lol (Gotta luv you clintonites. Always fighting the PR battle).

When Shalala left BJ became a boss, period

LOL

Explain, Chise. I ain't no potato lifting this dude up. I called for his head numerous of times, calling his office and emailing him. One of the students, can't remember who, stated it might not be on James, but rather Shalala a year or so back. You can't deny that since the troll left and now that he's actually been allowed to be an AD, things have moved in a positive direction on all facets.

Nah, she doesn't operate that way. BJ had more $$ and things fell right with Richt. Your statement is woefully uninformed, inaccurate, and it shows you've never really spent time around the university.

Shalala wanted Barry Alvarez in 2001. So remember that every time you repeat that flaccid narrative.

I respectfully disagree w u Mahoney. Hurricanes pre Shalala, during Shalala, and post Shalala. I don't need to be "around" the University to know that. Furthermore, if u don't think our athletic dept took a hit to babysit all of Shalala's personal ambitions, then we have nothing further to discuss.

Considering that she had already announced that she was on her way out by that point, how much influence would she have had? People don't realize how close Al came to getting fired, it was more a financial thing, but Miami wasn't willing to pay full price, and Golden knew that he had the school over a barrel. There was also the idea that Golden was done, he had grown tired of the job(How he carried himself in year 1, compared to his last season was proof of that), but he wasn't going to fall on his sword. The people who look at Dr. Shalala(or Dr. Frenk) as dictators who set the policy of the athletic department from Ashe are people who have little idea how college athletic governance works. The BOT, along with the financial backers of the athletic department hold all the cards. You have people on the BOT who are athletically inclined, they usually take the lead. People like the Dimares, the Millers etc. have the power in the room. Shalala, and Frenk merely work for them, and are supposed to fundraise and support the parts of the institution that need the extra boost(IE the academic departments).

I can say all this because I was there. You should focus on Saturday football and stay in your lane. Kids were given opportunities and wasted them, yes, that ilk self sabotaged despite every conceivable support mechanism the University could offer, and many of them would probably admit as much now.

Inner-city? Tough family environment? Wax on playboy. Tell me bout all that.

What personal ambitions? It's comical when idiots with ZERO connection to the University attribute things to Dr. Shalala, because of her political affiliation. Tad Foote was in all likelihood a Republican, did that mean that he fully supported athletics? Dr. Shalala, despite being a supporter of Bill Clinton and the New Democrat movement, rarely brought her own personal beliefs into Ashe. Frankly, if Dr. Shalala had those kind of ambitions, she would have never taken the job here, she could have accomplished more, made more money and furthered her alleged ends a lot better by serving as a lobbyist. Dealing with a bunch of sidewalk alumni isn't worth it, when you have the opportunities she had. Dr. Shalala loves being around college kids, she took an active interest in most of us, she worked her butt off to make sure that the University of Miami became a world class institution, and that the value of our degree remained at an acceptable level.

What does the amount of posts have to do with anything? C'mon man. You think the amount of times people post here has something to do with reality? Real question...

How about you go on that quest to find a player or anyone of notoriety to say Shalala was a dictator and ruled the athletic department.

After Shalala was fired, Frenk opened up his checkbook and said "go get me Mark Richt". We contacted Georgia and they said no. Hero Blake James, regardless of this, flew out to Athens and found Richt at the local Publix and convinced him to come down for Miami for a visit. He brought in Tom Herman and Chip Kelly for interviews, who were also clamoring for the job. Richt kept saying no, but James was persistent and convinced Richt he'd have a better shot at winning titles at Miami then UGA. James began a huge fundraising effort for the IPF and Frenk told Richt that he had to start the Paradise Camp and recruit south florida heavily. Things have just fallen into place since then.

Shalala has gone on to the Clinton Foundation and has gotten rid of lunch breaks and paid holiday leave.
