Year 4 coming up-

Schedule is much tougher-

The defense has major holes-

Not nearly enough big time DT’s recruits in this class-

Still haven’t had an elite DT-

He better hit on the portal guys coming in.

Brother it sopped being about diamonds in the rough 20 years ago. Having a blue chip ratio roster is the only way to win a natty.

A new DC factors into this as well, but we had the worst secondary I can remember ever having at Miami in my lifetime, and that's saying something because we've recruited that group like dog**** for a LONG time.

So you can't say the portal QB is literally all that matters. That is not true. I'd argue it matters very little if we trot Jaden Harris and Jadais Richard and Dyoni Hill out there again.

I’d take Emory with a major upgrade in the defensive backfield, along with a solid upgrade on the interior line and linebacker

Agree with this. But man, there's always guys out there - especially So. Fla guys that get underrecruited or not recruited at all that end up having great college careers and sometimes make the pros. Golden was great at this - getting Thurston Armbrister and David Njoku type of guys - his downfall was he also missed terribly on some players.

So I'm not putting it 100% on Guidry, his defense did look better when he had NFL kids back there last year. But it really doesn't matter, when you produce a unit that terrible, you have to go. I'm not even saying it's 100.0% deserved, but when it's THAT terrible, people lose jobs. They have to. He can't be the DC here next year. I know Mario won't fire every single defensive coach, nor should he, I'm just saying when your defense is that terrible, you really can't justify keeping a single one of those guys.

We finished 92nd in the country in scoring defense for only conference games. Ninety. Second. That's worse than the 2022 defense finished.

68th in yards per play allowed in conference games.

You really wanna throw up? We all watched Miami vs Florida on 8/31. Complete mismatch. They didn't even belong on the same field against us.

We finished 68th in YPP allowed vs Duke, Cal, VT, Syracuse, Wake Forest, FSU etc.

That gator defense finished 62nd in YPP allowed playing LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, UGA, A&M etc.

I’d defend Guidry more if Mesidor wasn’t dropping back in coverage. That was well past the threshold. No bueno
 
I haven't posted since the Cuse debacle. Too depressed. Thought about taking a long break but am still a Cane addict.

Regarding high school recruiting, I honestly don't think there's any excuses. We didn't cast a wide enough net nationally, which led to us being in a bidding war we weren't prepared to win. I get walking away from a hyperinflated NIL package for a prima donna like Merritt. **** him. But why were we even held hostage in that way in the first place? I firmly believe UF is going to implode with their high school class just like FSU did in the portal by bringing in so many mercenaries to their roster. But that just points to the fact we short-listed a bunch of mercenaries ... plus a couple legacies who never intended to flip. Epic fail.

Regarding the portal, I always believed we needed a strong portal class regardless of our high school recruiting because 1. we need to replace Cam, 2. you can't rely on multiple first years to rebuild a P5 level secondary, and 3. we still have holes at WR, LB and DT. But does anyone really believe the NIL market will be cooler in the portal than for high schoolers? It's going to be red hot, and super expensive. Are we walking away from those mercenaries, too? Better strap on the big boy overalls. Because it's going to be a barroom brawl.

The only positive I am taking away from the DISASTER that happened in the pas 7 days is that Mario feels worse than all of us combined. I am sure he's not sleeping well right now. I am sure he's on the case. What I'm not sure is if he's capable of addressing the failure points. Who will he picks as his next DC and DB tandem, who will he be able to keep vs. lose to the portal or NFL from the current roster, who will he land from the portal? Massive open questions.

That’s always going to happen. The state of Florida has a couple hundred kids go D1 every year.

Better percentage that the ones who leave will develop compared to the 15-20 in state signees that Miami takes.

The reality is out of those 25 a good class will have 8-10 guys start on the team, which is a 40% hit rate.

Maybe this is just me being too stubborn to accept things but I also don’t think the current players on defense are THAT bad either. Just felt like the wheels came off and there was no saving it. No matter who took the field they looked awful. Even guys like Bain which I refuse to believe

I don’t think it’s all Guidry but a fresh start could help

We got 3 decent guys out of the portal at DT this off-season in Barrow, Clark, and Cook.

The guy is just a methodical human being for better or worse

Sometimes that’s a good thing. You don’t want panic and knee jerk reactions. Discipline and restraint can be good

Sometimes it’s bad like if you don’t make a move and miss the boat

No idea which one this is yet
 
I see the Columbus Mafia chirping. The fact is, this was an ACCCG or Bust season. #Bust!

The schedule was cake with the #1 QB and the HC couldn’t make it happen. That is failure. Period. Couldn’t care less about 10 wins, albeit, two were against Fspoo and the Gaytor, which is 150% enjoyable but the success of a season shouldn’t be defined by beating your in-state rivals. You have to move forward consistently and in my opinion, Cristobal is not that Dude.

Cristobal better hit a top 5 portal class or 2025 is *** cheeks..

Got an elite DT last cycle, just need two more like that is the problem.
