(An Offensively Mediocre) Offensive Line

The upside is there let it cook...everything doesnt have to be microwavable.

We ran for 16 on 7 carries in the first half with this weeks version of starters in
I had 8 for 24 yards in the first half. Not exactly killing it but pretty much parallel to what UGA did against them for an entire game. The only difference is we killed them on the ground in the second half and Georgia continued to struggle.

these run game worriers just make me a laugh every week more. Leaving it at that. our offense when when we have half the Oline starters out is top 5 in the nation and I dont need to see stats to know that. Healthy its UT and us and no one else. And I know we better then UT push come to shove as we got best QB in country top 3 WR room and best RB easily in country . When Allen is what 5th string? thats just redonkoulous.

For all the “this is a real problem”folks:

Georgia (CIS favorite team) played Ball State last year. Ball State did what they do every week on defense, which is commit more guys to stopping the run than can be blocked. Georgia won 45-3. They rushed for 99 total yards on 28 carries. 3.5 yards per carry. Surely that meant Georgia was going to struggle to run the Ball against “good” teams, right? They averaged 191 yards and 5.3 yards per carry for the season against mostly good SEC defenses. I’m not going to **** my pants because Miami “only” rushed for 243 yards and 7.8 yards per carry against Ball State.
It's just what Ball State does to people...

Idk what's going on in this thread, but I can't imagine the coaches are thrilled with the possibility of starting Ryan Rodriguez and Lou Cristobal at G. Bell needs some work too.

We had better hope Rivers and Cooper get healthy and stay healthy.

Statistically, yes. They play the run very well but get killed by anyone who can complete a forward pass
Yep. That will actually work against the TVDs and Garcia's but any competent passing game should, and did, rip it to shreds.

No, he wasn’t. He was called for illegal hands to the face, which was also a bad call. He had his hands nowhere close to the DE’s face.
We won 62-0, no reason to be a homer. It was clearly hands to the face, and the person with the best view was the ref throwing the flag. Sucks cause that was a great play by Horton.

Let’s revisit this after Saturday. Will be back to full strength. They will open up the book a bit more. And USF will dare us to run.

New data point which I will agree is a good counterpoint. Ok

I’m NOT being a “homer.” If you would have seen the replay during the game, that DE first pushed Bell’s neck all the way back by having his hand in his face, at the very end of the play, Bell retaliated. Then the DE started complaining like a byotch to the ref, and he threw a flag.

At least be factual and know what you’re talking about.

Ryan Rodriguez started at guard when no one was hrt so looks like they had faith in him before the ankle a bit.

Now Lou is a ball state type game or quick sub in for a series or two type..full time in starter mode would be an issue and exploited.

How much more factual do I need to be? I posted an f'ing picture, you post your opinion as fact. Think they call that projection.

No, you didn’t post facts. You posted a picture of the end of the play. Go look at a replay of the game and you’ll clearly see on the replay of the same play that the Ball State DE starts off the play by getting his hands underneath Bell’s facemask and clearly pushes his head way back. Then Bell retaliates at the very end of the play, which is what your pic shows.

Quit simping for the zebras. They got the call wrong.

The O-line has taken a significant step back with Rivers being out, but we need to call a spade a spade:

70 (Markel Bell) is not good.

Does a lot of catching, has no real push, plays very high, and is seemingly quite flat-footed. Buddy did not use his hands at all, seemingly has no punch, and was holding just about every play in pass pro.

I think the combo with him and 78 (McCoy) has been really flat and is what is killing our run game. In pass pro, McCoy is on roller skates to bull rushes from some random Ball St DTs...

We like to pull backside Guard and Tackle (Cooper & Mauigoa), or one or the other running to the left and it looks like because the front side Guard and Tackle cant crash down, those pulling plays were all blown up.

---------------------------------

From those in the "know" I heard over the weekend that coaches have said that Samson (63) has not progressed as expected, and has not been able to crack the 2 deep at guard or tackle. @DMoney can you share more insights on what is holding him back? I know he had injuries but he seems to be past that right?

Without an established run game, I am unsure about our chances to make a real run. Someone is gonna drop 8 eventually and just dare Cam to thread the needle. I like our chances but it could go poorly. What Ball St. was doing was clearly idiotic selling out for the run considering how prolific of a passer we have, but I think we need to have a serious convo about the group of guys...

Discuss...
Id rather read a fraggle post
