IF the kid picks FSU, and you’re shocked/stunned/it ruins your day/you can’t wrap your mind around it, you honestly need to find something else to do with your time. Maybe follow the football team, but recruiting isn’t for you.

Obviously the smart money here, literally and figuratively, is on Miami. But I will be 0% surprised if he picks FSU. Will I think he made a poor decision? Of course. But it shouldn’t shock anyone. Relationships matter a LOT in this business.

Now, just get him down here and don’t let him leave.

What makes people think that a young man is dumb enough to believe the line from any coach that he is guaranteed a starting spot? At least NIL is a contract. The rest about starting and playing time is just typical coach bull**** and they all do it. Yes even Mario.
If I was a player I would steer clear of anyone lying to my face about starting and go where the coach was at least honest enough to tell me to come earn the spot. I believe, maybe naively, that college players know that most coaches are self-interested liars.

Excuses already starting
You know, sometimes kids just prefer certain things, and it doesn't have to make sense to anyone but the kid. On no level using logic and career potential is FSU the better choice. But if he values his relationship with Atkins that much, so be it. You can't kidnap a kid and force him to sign no matter how poor his decision making is. Not even parents can do that, as we've seen many times over the years at various schools.

Folks got too ****y here right away and now aren’t sure what’s what. Can’t immediately assume in this day and age that any transfer is a lock especially one that is elite elite with minimal connections to UM. Dennis and Porter make perfect sense. Local kids.

Having said that, kid would be a moron to go to FSU even if the NIL is close because Norvell is more than likely fired next year and his OC/OL coach will be gone as well.

This applies to every message board in CFB.
Is there a worse narrative than “<insert Miami coach> won’t ever guarantee a starting spot, but <insert opposing coach> definitely will, so if <insert player> goes there, he is scared of competition…” ?
Bruh I got “we’ll see him in the transfer portal in 2 years anyway”. Haha sometimes we gotta just take the L.

Has nothing to do with being "scared of competition". But it is related to some of these players having a mistaken view of their leverage, and whether a coach should play an inferior player (with a promise) if a superior player (without a promise) outplays him.

It doesn't matter if you like the narrative or not, "starter guarantees" are absolutely happening (generally). I'm not going into the specifics on this particular recruit, but it is well-known in recruiting circles (players, coaches, families) that Mario doesn't guarantee starting spots. He just doesn't.

I don't know if a "starter guarantee" was the determining factor in any particular recruit's decision, but the fact that so many coaches offer such guarantees should be an indication that the COACHES think it is an important piece of the recruiting effort.
