Alex Collins finally signs with Arkansas

Which is why his mom is protecting him from himself and his coach at this point. That's what ESPN and other media outlets don't understand, and why they believe his signing with Arkansas to be imminent: They view his mom as simply having a panic attack because her baby is going away. They don't understand the situation the way Canes fans who have followed his recruitment closely do: This is a kid who was recruited to a particularly awful school by his high school coach is a grossly unethical manner, a kid who has been convinced that Arkansas is the correct place for him, due in part, to academics (lol). Something is not right, and his mom is trying to make it right. Let's hope she succeeds, but she has the world against her at this point.

Mom trying to "protect" him? Doesn't he not even live with her?

Based on a quote from his brother in a Miami Herald article today, it sounds like he does, in fact, live with her. It appears that him living with Gatewood was either a temporary situation or a rumor that got out of control.

Could this be a situation where he has to "live" in the district South Plantation is in in order to go to school (read: PLAY) there? In other words, was this recruiting by Guntwood pure and simple?

This right here. [Personal opinion] Any individual whom allows himself to regress into such a slob-like state doesn't seem the likely candidate to facilitate a clean and healthy environment for himself, much less someone else's child.

Whole thing is a farce. This cat recruited Collins to his H.S. and now is whoring the kid out to his "freind". "Freind" is in quotation because [Personal opinion] Beilma doesn't give a sh@t about this slob. It's been my experience that successful, healthy people usually befreind other successful, healthy people. Beilma is using this fat, nasty *** coach and this fat, nasty *** coach is using this kid. ...and so it goes...

so it wasn't a mistake....

Mark Mangina, John Blake and Chaz Weis say hello.

I'd also like to add that there's nothing wrong with having a decent chess playing, non goon kid on your team. There's a need for both. Teammates can be positive influences too and might be more instrumental in keeping your goons clean than any coach.

And the goons might rub off on Alex a little too.

Check out this CBS Sports piece....seems to confirm his coach pushing him to AK..also falsly claims he was committed to Wisconsin at some point.

Collins committed to Miami and Wisconsin before promising his services this week to Arkansas. The last two switches obviously were because of Bielema.

The coach couldn't talk about his hoped-for prize directly until Collins signed. But Bielema did reminisce about Collins' high school coach, Doug Gatewood. The two coaches became friends a while ago. Lineman Fabian Dodd was one of Bielema's first big-time recruits at Iowa. That was back in 2001 when Gatewood was at Piper High in Sunrise, Fla.

"Doug and I built a special relationship," Bielema said.

Collins was reportedly "devastated" when Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas. Any school would have taken the five-star prospect with 4.45-second 40 speed. But under Bielema, tailbacks thrive. Wisconsin has produced eight consecutive years of 1,000-yard rushers, seven of them under Bielema.

Are all these guys a bunch of ****?
"Doug and I build a special relationship," Bielema said.
Does it involve deep anal and oral?

Maybe I'm just an old guy who doesn't understand the metrosexual world, but I don't have "special" relationships with men.

I don't understand the issue with lacrosse. Many football corches, including George Smith, want(ed) his football players to play lacrosse in the off season due to the conditioning and amount of contact involved in the game.

It clearly is ignorance about the game. It's very physical. Basketball is a walk in the park compared to lax.

I'm a big fan of AC, but for sure a bigger fan of mom. Keep at it mom! Get that ink on a U LOI.

Like I said, I'm just guessing but there has to be a 'special' relationship if an explanation is asked for as to why he is hiring a high school coach from across the country who oh by the way just delivered a five star prospect.

i look at it as kind of like a food pyramid of team character

at the bottom we have the ones who give 110% effort, all day err day. they don't have to be talented, just work hard. we need a lot of these guys.

2nd tier should be the smart types.

3rd will be the goons

and the top will be the elite, team leaders.

Anyone chirping about lacrosse is silly. It was mentioned earlier but Jim Brown is one of the best lacrosse players EVER. I know a ton of dudes that played lax and football in Ohio and the Northeast. His body type and athletic ability are perfect for both sports. I hope we get the kid but I'm not holding my breath. If he becomes a cane I'll welcome him. If not I'll move on. Its not as if the kid trolled us for months ala Keef and 6.

I have no issues with lacrosse. Basically hockey without the ice and skates.
I also have no issue with the cheerleading. C'mon, being in a pile with hot limber girls. Spending half the time fingerbanging them?
Not much wrong with that.

I do have a problem with this kid's attitude towards Miami.
Any kid who is forced to come to Miami on a full ride at the point of a gun isn't a Cane at heart.
****, I don't know what he is, I just know he's not a Cane.

Didn't Arkansas hire HS corch Gus Malzahn after he delivered that WR and Mitch Cumstain to Arkansas? I understand that Gus was from Arkansas, and not across the country, but he was a HS corch who just delivered two players to Arkansas. It doesn't appear to have worked out too badly for anyone involved in that except the football players.

LULZ for the first paragraph and truth in the second paragraph.

Go to Arkansas, Alex. You'll have a great year and a half there. Even people who know the kid are scratching their heads over this choice. Some of them are telling him all of the reasons why he shouldn't go to Arkansas including ones mentioned many times on this site including 30 carries a game on turf against SEC defenses.

Wow. Bunch o' Dr. Phils on this board. Fact of the matter is that we don't know all the facts and shouldn't be passing judgment on the actions of Alex or his mother. That said, the story is extremely entertaining. Get some popcorn, let it play out, and hope for the best for Alex and UM.

Didn't Randy Shannon make up a position for Ice Harris after his 5 star kid inked with Miami?

That worked out well for UM.

the whole "jim brown was the greatest lax player ever" is such an overused line. You know why he was so good? Because he would pick up the ball with his stick, and hold the stick head to his chest and basically stiff arm everyone down the field. It's why a lot of rules were created in LAX - because of JB. He was just so much bigger, stronger and faster than everyone - it wasn't because of his skill.

Anyhow, the fact that AC played LAX is great. The sport requires much more conditioning and he seems to have done well in it.

/played LAX in HS
