Alex Collins finally signs with Arkansas

I tried this in the chat and got no takers:

Does anyone wanna bet me a beer that Alex collins will never graduate from the University of Arkansas???

Would you want a diploma with that **** school on it?

Uh, what is wrong with a UA diploma? I got a JD there, and it was a good school.

Undergraduate: (out of 199)

#134 University of Arkansas

Law School: (out of 145)

#89 University of Arkansas--Fayetteville

#119 University of Arkansas--Little Rock (Bowen)

Nope, not a good school. To put it bluntly, if the Arkansas schools were high school football players, they would get the NR for their ranking (0 stars)

Check out this CBS Sports piece....seems to confirm his coach pushing him to AK..also falsly claims he was committed to Wisconsin at some point.

Collins committed to Miami and Wisconsin before promising his services this week to Arkansas. The last two switches obviously were because of Bielema.

The coach couldn't talk about his hoped-for prize directly until Collins signed. But Bielema did reminisce about Collins' high school coach, Doug Gatewood. The two coaches became friends a while ago. Lineman Fabian Dodd was one of Bielema's first big-time recruits at Iowa. That was back in 2001 when Gatewood was at Piper High in Sunrise, Fla.

"Doug and I built a special relationship," Bielema said.

Collins was reportedly "devastated" when Bielema left Wisconsin for Arkansas. Any school would have taken the five-star prospect with 4.45-second 40 speed. But under Bielema, tailbacks thrive. Wisconsin has produced eight consecutive years of 1,000-yard rushers, seven of them under Bielema.

What I don't get also is that his brother was interviewed yesterday and said that Alex was coming home and going straight to his room for the past few days. If that's the case, who is he living with.

That's funny. Sources earlier said it was going to be 11 that he was signing with Ark. Aren't sources the best?

I think it would be safe to presume that Alex and his mom are at home, talking to nobody, and that any sources commenting on what time he is going to sign are booshy. Mom still putting the full court press on him.

I wouldn't let my kid sign with Arkansas either. My guess is Alex Collins gets his way and ends up there anyways, however. But I would imagine these so-called "sources" are nothing more than educated guesses based on comments from Collins' classmates/teammates who claim to have some contact with him.

Exactly my point. Nobody, other than Alex's mom and maybe him have any idea of what they are going to do.

If you believe one of the Sentinel guys (not Casagrande), Alex and his mom are not particularly close. She's not "part of his life," according to the writer. Which may explain why he doesn't live with her. According to the dude, she's "hijacked" the situation.

If this is true, then F her. Let the kid go where he wants.

Anywhere but Arkansas, IMO. For all we know, she is saying the same thing. She might want him to go to UM, but she might also be saying FSU and UF are acceptable.

There are two schools I would not let my completely hypothetical football recruit son go to no matter how badly they wanted to: Arkansas and West Virginia. That's it. Anywhere else and it would be fine, I'd be hypothetically disappointed at any other decision than Miami, but I would be forced to accept it.

You throw in a coach who is shopping him, and you get a "**** no."

I'm not exactly sure how credible these rumors are that his mom is not a part of his life. In the herald today his brother was speaking of how Alex would come [to his mom's] home and close his door the past few days before his Arkansas announcement. Doesn't sound like a kid living with his coach. He probably crashed on his coach's couch for a few nights while going through some ****, and it got overblown into "he lives with his coach because he has family issues."

How many of those great backs are currently running in the NFL?

the ARK decision is soooo retarded and short sighted by him. really really dumb move. mind numbingly dumb

basically he wants to go there cus the coach likes to use a "featured" back. AC's fat *** coach kept harping on that in the audio interview with fat manny. AC kept parroting what his fat *** coach was saying, "yeah yeah feature back"

Exactly. We should have seen the writing on the wall during those interviews where the coach would always be saying this time and time again. To think that he STILL decided on UM over Ark until the last possible moment before his announcement is very telling of his real desires

Meanwhile, Guntwood was seen this morning digging up Anwar Sadat in an attempt to reach a peace treaty and get this deal done.

He could be using the coach's address for school assignment purposes, which the FHSAA might be interested in.

Frank Gore, Willis McGahee, Baby James need to go pay this guy a visit today and tell him to quit clowning around with Arkansas. **** even Damien Berry got a pretty good shot at the NFL and the kid was a converted safety.

For those of you who say, "Do not want"...you're nuts. I'd take him back in a second. And let's not forget, this is not our first rodeo with this kind of bull!@#$....See, Kellen Winslow as Exhibit "A". You didn't mind him did you?

Which is why his mom is protecting him from himself and his coach at this point. That's what ESPN and other media outlets don't understand, and why they believe his signing with Arkansas to be imminent: They view his mom as simply having a panic attack because her baby is going away. They don't understand the situation the way Canes fans who have followed his recruitment closely do: This is a kid who was recruited to a particularly awful school by his high school coach is a grossly unethical manner, a kid who has been convinced that Arkansas is the correct place for him, due in part, to academics (lol). Something is not right, and his mom is trying to make it right. Let's hope she succeeds, but she has the world against her at this point.

Mom trying to "protect" him? Doesn't he not even live with her?

Those are the same posters that will run to the Arkansas board and defend him should Alex somehow decide to play here. You know how it goes.

This is what I was about to post. Kid got recruited to play there, and had to live with the coach. So his mom might NOT have been an uber psycho mother, just allowing him to be drafted in HS.

Exactly my thoughts... He was with Coach Cvntwood on paper only so that he could attend school. He was obviously living with mom and bro unless bro was living with Cvntwood, too.

Based on a quote from his brother in a Miami Herald article today, it sounds like he does, in fact, live with her. It appears that him living with Gatewood was either a temporary situation or a rumor that got out of control.
