Alabama and Racism

Who were the Indentured Servants: (English Poor Whites)

A staggering 95% of the total British and continental emigration to America prior to the American Revolutionary War were Indentured Servants.

There were three classes of Indentured servants:

1) Willing Migrants who wanted to start a life in the colonies and agreed to sign contracts
2) Unwilling Migrants who needed to escape religious persecution or were forced to go for other reasons
3) Others were Convicts, Vagabonds, Rogues and Undesirables - these types of Indentured servants chose America, rather than prison

Poor English were offered a trip to North America, along with four to seven years of unpaid work for their masters in exchange for the journey. Some were bought and sold when they arrived in the colonies, much in the same manner as slaves (which hence the resentment and anger toward the slave which still exists today). The system of indentured servitude was the answer to clearing the streets of the many beggars and homeless in England. Upon completion of an Indenture contract, the servant would receive "freedom dues," that included items such as land, money, a gun, clothes or food.

What's interesting to note is that his descendants seems to despise the former descendants of slaves the most today when in fact it was his own brother (British) that relegated him and his kindred to just above a slave status to pay for his own freedom in the new world. The British didn't care if he was liberal or conservative. He said get your *** out there with them slaves and pick that cotton!!! So the anger is misdirected towards the slave and the slave descendants today. The lie of this proud "rich" white history continue to be taught in schools but the truth still remains as the propaganda tries to cover it up. Have you ever wondered where terms and statements directed at blacks stem; uppity ***, *** you think you better than me?, smart ***?

Who were the Mulatto:

During the time period of slavery in America the white slave owners would rape their black female slaves, and the result often was children being born. Many slave owners did not help their mixed blooded mulatto children; they labeled these children black and let their black mothers raise them. These white looking children were considered slaves just like their mothers. The one drop blood rule that Southern whites followed said, that if you have one drop of black blood in you then you are black, no matter how much white blood and genetics you have in you.

A case of a slave suing for his freedom, was tried a few days in Lincoln county, of which the following is a brief statement of particulars: A youth of about ten years of age sued for his freedom on the ground that he was a free white person…. Upon his trial before the jury, he was examined by the jury and two learned physicians, all of whom concurred in the opinion that very little, if any, trace of ***** blood could be discovered by any of the external appearances.

All the physiological marks of distinction, which characterize the African descent, had disappeared. His skin was fair, his hair soft, straight, fine and white, his eyes blue, but rather disposed to the hazel-nut color; nose prominent, the lips small, his head round and well formed, forehead high and prominent, ears large, the tibia of the leg straight, and feet hollow.

Notwithstanding these evidences of his claims, he was proved to be the descendant of a mulatto woman, and that his progenitors (parent) on the mother’s side had been and still were slaves: consequently he was found to be a slave.” Yeah, they sent him back to the fields on the plantation. You see it today with little white boys and girls growing up around the country being raised with or by blacks. The narrative of the fugitive slave William W. Brown was published in 1847.

What's interesting is The expression of, ‘white looking,’ would imply that there was no shame felt in holding a white man in bondage. Wait, What? No shame!!!

What exactly is the point you are making with this? What is your position on it? And what about this reading that you provided makes you more intelligent than everyone else?

I guess he thinks because a few black folks had slaves it's okay and white folk in Alabama aren't really bigots.

You have no idea what I think.

The census records show that the majority of the Black owners of slaves were such from the point of view of philanthropy. In many instances the husband purchased the wife or vice versa … Slaves of Blacks were in some cases the children of a free father who had purchased his wife. These black slave-owners, the clear majority, cleverly used the system of slavery to protect their loved ones and to help free others. That’s the good news.

Yup, that's part of the story. The inconvenient part is ignored.

The early sign of a coward is to throw a rock and hide his hand. Tell us your thoughts on the misinformation that you have provided? What exactly is the point that you are making with this? What is your position on it? And what about this reading that you provided makes you more intelligent than everyone else? Do you even understand the information that you are passing on?

Your issue is with the sources, not me. I just shined a light on pertinent information. Don't expect a puppy from me just because you were triggered.

been bumped off the air by UF,FSU,NC,Clemson,Tenn, Recruits may not read newspapers, books, etc, but
they Damm sure watch tv!

I knew you would never answer the questions so I called the action exactly what it was, cowardly. Remember the dog is your best friend not mine!!!

You knew nothing, you still don't. Your questions are silly and you appear to lack the self-awareness to know why I should bother with them. Stop before you further discredit yourself.

A Shifting Tide? ? THE BITTER SOUTHERNER

The University of Alabama has an infamously poor history when it comes to race: The school was segregated until the summer of 1963, when George Wallace stood in the doorway of the admissions office, flanked by state troopers and daring Vivian Malone and James Hood, the school’s first black students, to come past him. Integration brought steady, occasionally terroristic hounding of black students. Racism thrived in more subtle ways as well. According to Anthony James, a professor Carolina Community College who studied the intersection of race and Greek life, blackface parties and minstrel shows were common at UA in the ’30s, and considered unremarkable enough that one sorority chose a picture of its sisters in blackface for the campus yearbook. A survey of the The Crimson White archives shows that these parties continued well into the 1990s, including one event that drew such a firestorm of controversy it resulted in a brief, ineffective push for the full integration of the Greek system.

Black students currently make up about 12 percent of the student body. They have historically been kept out of traditional Greek life, and thus— because of the Machine’s dominion over the SGA — out of campus political power. Not for lack of trying; black women unsuccessfully attempted to join Panhellenic sororities from the 1980s to the 2000s, with few of them making it past the initial round of Rush and none receiving a bid. While there are historically black greek organizations at Alabama, only two currently have houses on campus: the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha and the fraternity Αlpha Phi Alpha. Khortlan Patterson, formerly president of AKA, told me that when their sorority got a house on Sorority Row in 1987, crosses burned on their lawn and white sorority women publicly fretted about the safety of having black men coming around their buildings.

The current climate is quieter but only marginally more welcoming. It’s hard for black students to find their niches, Patterson said: Many have difficulty getting plugged in with campus groups, and the black student organizations that do exist at UA have been in disarray for years. Few black students are able to afford the luxurious on-campus housing or join prestigious clubs: Patterson herself was the first black female member of the University Fellows, an honor she regards with ambivalence. Even ostensibly progressive student groups tend to be persistently white. Without much access to the kinds of welcoming spaces enjoyed by white students, many black students are thus left as marginal figures, perpetually reminded that they don’t entirely belong.

“I was always hyper-aware of being black on campus,” recalled Samaria Johnson, a former campus activist and recent graduate. “I just felt like I was under a spotlight all of the time, even minding my business out and about on campus, and that feeling only got stronger the more active I got.”

Then there’s the harassment, which runs the gamut from people crossing the street to avoid black students to racial slurs being lobbed from fraternity porches or passing cars. “My freshman year I was walking down Frat Row behind Bryant and [the fraternity] ATO,” Patterson said. “It was the middle of the day in the spring, and these dudes come out in a truck — they were leaving a day party — and they yelled out ‘!’ at me. In the middle of the day.”

Her experience was typical of the black students I interviewed for this story, including Spillers, and is consistent with stories I’ve heard from friends and with my own limited experiences. During a stay in one dormitory, it was not uncommon to overhear casually racist conversations in the halls or see slurs scribbled on bulletin boards. Two black Resident Advisers were called “” in front of me. Many of my black friends flatly refused to walk behind Old Row alone — you never knew who you might run into, how drunk they’d be, or what they might do.

Recruits encounter racism everywhere, including Miami. To say "Don't go there, they're racist!" is ignorant of how widespread racism is in this country. If recruits avoid every rural school in the country, their options would be limited to USC, Miami and Pitt. Clearly that isn't the case.

People seem confused as to why Miami was capable of achieving 4 National Championships within 8 years, but now can't compete. There are a list of reasons, but the one unifying explanation is $$$. Other schools outspend us and then raid our home turf.
