Was the hot name for every open job. Interesting that his name hasn't come up for any opening at all this year.

What jobs are opened up that are worth a ****?

this?

USC was never even on the table...but his name swirled out there...

If you really really hate the Man just take a few years off and do us all a HUGE favor and yourself so you don't have to hate so much

All saved this program from another decade of nothingness. Tell me what happens if he bolts when the Yahoo story hit. Tell me do.

Wasteland.

Folks with short memories are of the view "what have you done for me lately", the facts and circumstances do not matter. I am interested to see how we do moving forward.

I have realized that all these people who are all butthurt and want Golden fired are the ones who saw we went 7-0 and ignored all rational thought from the beginning of the year and lost sight that this was at best a 10-2 team coming into the season. They saw the 7-0 and top 10 ranking and thought that Miami should have won the NC this year. Should they be disappointed about the VT and Duke games yes, but the constant player and coach bashing is getting out of hand. Anything good that happens is always filled with negatives. This team did not have the quality depth it needs to be a big time program especially at the DL and LB positions.

This is not a shot at Al by any means and just an observation. This time last year we were all holding our breathe hoping he would stay. This year his name hasn't come up once. Poster above brought up a good point that many jobs he was never in contention for. Just figured USC or Texas would have his name in the mix especially with him winning the Lombardi award.

the funny thing is lets say we opened the season up against fsu duke and va tech and went 0-3 but then won 9 straight the know it alls would be calling for a contract extension before someone tries to grab him

I highly doubt if he started 0-3 he would still be here.

THe funny thing is, this was supposed to be a 3-4 loss team BEFORE the season started.. 2 losses would have been considered a glaring success.. and anything less than that would have been a huge over achievement.

The award didn't need to be announced for him to considered for USC since he clearly is very well respected among his peers. There are a lot of schools that held on to their mediocre coaches this year where last year they got rid of them. There haven't been as many jobs open as last year that would make sense for him to leave us. However 2 of the "greatest jobs in college football" opened up (USC)/will open us shortly (Texas) and we haven't heard his name for those.

He was a "Hot Name" in the eyes of message boards.

Face it, NOBODY wanted Coker or Shannon, and nobody wants a guy who takes this much talent and is lucky to finish 3rd in a TERRIBLE Coastal.

His name was in the mix for the USC job, at least in terms of press folks saying that he was getting looks from the Trojans.

As for Texas, it's clear that when Brown gets canned, they're going to go for a top-tier guy who's already proven himself and likely has a championship at some level. Al's still a little green and hasn't yet won even a league championship, so it shouldn't be a shock that his name isn't getting thrown around.

Also, keep in mind that the NCAA investigation was a large part of the reason people felt that Golden might bolt. If they'd have drug it out for another year, or if UM had gotten significant sanctions (another bowl ban, heavy scholly restrictions, etc), I'm sure Golden's name would be in the mix for virtually any opening.
