A View From The Other Side

Defensively, we should put 8 in the box and play close to the LOS to force Mertz to beat us vertically.
I do not agree. We should play them totally straight. No reason for any gimmicks. Their WRs are their strongest group and our DBs are our weakest.

We should be able to get sufficient pressure by rushing four. There's no reason to get overly aggressive.

I pray that Mario doesn’t have the mindset of wanting to play conservative and try to win the game in the 4th quarter. We need to jump on them early, quiet the crowd, and pretty much the game by halftime. If this is like a 17-17 ballgame heading into the 4th quarter, i’m very nervous about our chances of winning. If this is close late in the game, we already know this defense will miss a lot of tackles, the’ll give and big passing places, and the offense will freeze. We’ve seen that way too many times with this program lol

I think we go in and get the win for sure but something I recently heard (didn’t have any luck finding it easily) is that UF has some ridiculously long home opener winning streak. Something like 27 years. Does anyone know if that’s true? I’m sure a ton of them are to ****** teams. Regardless we win
Well one thing we are is streak breakers. So hope you are right.

That has nothing to do with this game.

Since 2022, versus teams with a winning record, florida is 1-4 non-conf and 2-8 in SEC play.

Also, the SEC really wasn't all that impressive last season. Yes, they had 6 ranked teams, but the rest of the league was mediocre at best.

The ACC had 5 ranked teams if you count notre dame. Which is logical since they played 6 ACC teams last season...only two short of a full ACC schedule.
Let's not argue SEC vs ACC. We lose that argument every time.

But it is irrelevant to the discussion. Yes, overall SEC is stronger than ACC. But wearing an SEC patch on their jersey doesn't suddenly make the Gators a strong team any more than it does Vandy or Arkansas.

If you're trying to make a case for Florida to win this is a terrible attempt.

-Swamp is hard to play in
-Gators have won big home matchups in the past
-Miami had a bad record the past two years
-SEC is different

Hitting on all the hopium intangibles.
They have won 37 straight home openers. Will be nice to break that record.

Vandy is still Vandy, regardless of their SEC affiliation, and the same goes for the Gators. However, there are some undeniable truths.

First, comparing statistics between the SEC and ACC isn’t straightforward since SEC teams face tougher schedules and more talented opponents. The Gators played six ranked teams last year, while we played four, so comparing records isn’t really fair.

Being in the SEC does give the Gators some credibility because of the strength of their schedule and the talent in that conference. In fact, this might be the second-best team we face all year, aside from FSU.

They have won 37 straight home openers.

From 2003 to 2023::

San Jose State
Eastern Michigan
Wyoming
Southern Mississippi
Western Kentucky
Hawaii
Charleston Southern
Miami (OH)
FAU
Bowling Green
Toledo
Eastern Michigan
New Mexico State
Massachusetts
Tennessee (finished 4-8)
Charleston Southern
UT Martin
South Carolina
FAU
Utah
McNeese

They beat Utah. That's what they did.

Btw, we've only lost 1 home opener (FSU 2006) in the last 21 years and we suck.

I Guess If You Say So GIF

This would be the type of game where I'd put it on mute and listen to Sonny Hirsch.

On paper we are much better than UF. We're still the favorite in Vegas despite their homefield advantage with the line going up. If Mario has us ready to play there's no reason we should lose this game.

Mario is not close to a perfect gameday coach, obviously, but he won 2 pac-12 titles and won a Rose Bowl. All accomplishments better than sun belt Billy.

Why do people forget this? Ok maybe its because his Oregon teams were more talented than opponents, fine. But he can do the same at Miami..... not a hard concept.

I listened to a pod with Shane Mathew's , Spurrier and Doering. Shane said " I don't follow Miami closely but I don't see how they're getting so much love , i watched them last year and they wasn't that good "

Well if you followed them closely you might see why they’re receiving some hype. I personally like Doering , he’s a nice dude and was pretty unbiased with his takes. He was the only one calling them out on their on field discipline and on field product.

Guidry is going to be able to play his D this season like he wants too. Our D is going to eat. 3 weeks ago, I was still thinking a close game. I am past that. I just can't find anything in UF's favor except home field advantage. I believe we are going to make a statement opening the season. We shall see

Shane Matthews thinks the Gators DBs are NFL and Cam Ward will toss them some INTs

(07:58) we've been historically bad uh the last couple years defensively I mean really bad and if we don't play better on the front seven I think we have a tremendous sector I love our Corners they're NFL Corners they're gonna play on Sundays for a long time but our front seven has they have to have G they have to be Gap sound and they have to get after the quarterback I they don't have to sack them just make them uncomfortable get them off their spot if the gator front seven can play better than average (08:30) football because we haven't even been average I think this team wins a lot of games
(09:33) type of thing well it's hard to tell when you're not playing when you're playing your own guys uh there's only one game that I can remember last year where we even got a turnover that kind of gave us momentum that was against Tennessee Joe mil it was his first time of the swamp uh I just think cam Ward's gonna throw it to us a couple of times in this game

UF's OL is being underrated at run blocking and Napier likes to control the clock

I think is really important to know Florida's offensive Line's better than I (01:40) think people realize I think again Florida's just been dropped down as this weak team that's going to get completely knocked over by whoever they play they're all line Austin Barber it's a pretty good group and there's three new starters for Miami's defensive line so they need to come firing off the ball as to not allow to happen to them what Florida state had go down for them with new faces on their defensive line against Georgia Tech I think you hit the the the nail on the hammer when you (02:11) said um how quickly does Cam Ward Jael with this new team and I think we got a really interesting example of that in week zero with dju here's the question that I would possess to most people has k Ward played in an environment like this in week one with a brand new football team great Point great point and we're talking about turnovers and we're talking about them jelling early the issue with with that is Joe what if they come out and just run the ball with Damen Martinez with a really good offensive line and are able to open (02:50) some things up with Cam Ward so it's not like that they don't have options but it is going to be a very interesting chess match when it comes to Florida because of how loud that's stadium is going to be in a rivalry game in week one with a brand new team now that's not to say that they can't come out firing off on all cylinders a lot of us think that they're going to be a very talented team but I want to look at the other side of the of the of the offense or other side of the ball when it comes to Graham Merz (03:21) and Florida Joe what if he progresses because here's the thing that I kept thinking about in this game too we all thought going into the seon last year that he might be one of the worst quarterbacks in the SEC that's how people projected wasn't true yeah and that wasn't true what happened was my man threw 25 touchdowns two interceptions he was highly accurate now he was dumping the ball off and I'm not saying he wasn't taking deep shots Joe what if he comes out in this game and finds Eugene Eugene Wilson Trey Wilson (03:55) and they're able to hit on some big shots with the running game that we know that they can possess I think that this game is going to be so much closer than people are giving it credit for mainly due to where it's being played and I do think that Billy and this offensive staff does not get the credit that they deserve on the leap that Graham Merz took a year ago
legitimately look at at Florida and say what does Billy do that could give Miami problems he loves holding on to the football Joe they were top 10 (05:03) units back-to-back years in time of possession they want to hold on and run the football take small throws get first downs be Progressive and methodical down the field

Sam Brown Hype
(09:10) this game by about a touchdown maybe a little bit more I think the biggest mismatch in this game is the wide receiver unit at Miami versus the DB room at Florida yep people forget about Jacolby George they forget about a stpo when they when we talk about because of Cam Ward and Damen Martinez that Sam Sam Brown too Sam Brown's the best of the three of them he's the best receiver of all three of them no I'm telling you right now he's going to put up the most production I I broke down his film that (09:39) kid is a potential first-rounder he unbelievably good I I was in love a thousand yards with Tyler van djk as his quarterback Jacolby George is a great player I'm not down that but s he Sam Brown had Donovan Smith who was air mailing him passes like every other throw that was coming his way so I think that that is the biggest mismatch now
