A team that starts 7-0...

Per usual…the truth is found somewhere in the middle.

well not really. its been the same story since F-A-G/Dorito got here.

the defense is AWFUL so the whole game rides on teh back of the offense. if they stumble or stall for a while even, the game gets out of hand quickly vs. decent teams. and then the wheels come off.

we've seen it over and over again. same recipe every time.

A team that starts 7-0 and ends 9-4, if you didn't know what team I was talking about, didn't have any bias about the coach, what would you think happened?

I'll tell you boys what, I've been around a lot of football seasons, and one thing that pops out to me when you see any team start that strong and end that weak is that team had good starting talent but they LACK OF DEPTH.

Injuries take their toll on all teams, and if you don't have the depth you can drop off pretty badly. Seen it time and again.

Now we all know we had injuries, some to very key pieces on our team. It's no excuse but it is what it is.

Now do we have better depth this year? Yes, but I still don't believe it is where it needs to be.

We WILL have injuries next year. It's inevitable. If we don't... if we go out there every game with the same kids playing.... we will go 11-1 this year. I guarantee that.

But we WILL have injuries. Here's to hoping our kids have a good summer, get in good condition, and prevent as many of them as possible.
someone important got hurt.. that would be my initial guess..

normally i'd say "next man in" .. but since we're rebuilding, we can't have the next man in mentality.. and that's why we went 2-4 to finish out.

If you guys are really looking for a debatable excuse , here's one : Jedd Fisch left for the NFL .

If Fisch was still here last season we probably eek out those 2 wins and we would've been more competitive against the 2 elite teams on the schedule .

Giving up 40+ points to Dook and VT is inexcusable and cannot be blamed on injuries to Duke or Dorsett.

the VT game was an anomaly... we had 4 or 5 turnovers or whatever it was.. we went from being in control of that game, to getting that *** whooped from one minute to the next.

No really.

Was speaking to why more games were lost towards the end of the year. Stronger, deeper teams effectively get better towards the end of the year because weaker teams without depth get worse. In addition, we played better teams the back half of the year. It's a combo of both.

I would say their first 7 games we probably easier and they are an average team.

Injuries or motivation could be a factor.

Pitt didn't have Duke Johnson on their team when they traveled to Durham either. Somehow they won.

This makes no sense at all.
How did Pitt walk out of Wallace Wade Stadium with a W if they didn't have Duke Johnson on their team?

No clue but Duke J isn't the best and most important player on their team. If Savage doesn't play that game does Pitt win? I'm not saying that the defense wasn't horrendously embarrassing but Duke J does make a difference in that game if he's healthy.

last years team to me wasnt mentally strong IMO, they thought they were going to win the national championship, they were preaching it in class and all around the campus, they were confident which is very good, then they lost to FSU and it all went down hill, the VT game killed us and also showed a little of my point, we were looking good in the beginning and those turnovers on special teams killed all of our momentum, that and coach Ds play calling, you also saw it in morris, the year before he would put his head down for first downs and hustled, you even saw it in the florida game with him, after the FSU game you can just tell he didnt care anymore, that louisville and duke games dont get me started they looked like they didnt want to be out there, coach D and crappy players had a lot to do with it too, but they were mentally shook after FSU and you can see it in their play and body language, im hoping this year they learn from that

2012
Duke Johnson rushed for 176 in a win against dook

2013
Pitt RB rushed for 173 in a win against dook

They didnt have Duke, but they had a Dukesque performance.

the defense burned out because we were almost at the bottom of fbs in time of possession, our qb was 3 and out or a quick score. After duke when down, we were finished.

if you can watch that Dook tape and not see the answer then idk what to tell you. we were completely out coached in that game. Cutcliffe just toys with F-A-G/Dorito. it is unwatchable

Oh, you're talking about THE James Conner.

Dallas ran for 115 that day. He led our team in TD's for the year. We weren't 60 additional yards away from winning that day.

We had enough talent to make it out of that game with a win even without Duke Johnson is what I'm saying. I get your point, I'd only quibble that losing a starting QB >>>>>>>> losing a starting RB.
