We offered him back in 2020.

The fact he & his twin brother didn't sign with Texas out of HS was & still a major recruiting shock.

The Brockermeyer's are basically the Chickillo's of University of Texas.

They almost landed Lew, got Lee and Carpenter in the portal, got SJ in this class.


It's a really tricky spot to recruit. Remember that the best recruiters get less than half their commits right. They didn't recruit Rodriguez but he is probably not quite good enough, They did recruit Tripp but he was both injured and probably not good enough. The Francavilla kid may turn out to be good enough but he's not ready. SJ is almost certainly good enough. Need to keep stacking and they'll get it right.

"Portal" recruiting one-year guys is not the same as the way that they recruit tackles out of high school.

They recruit tackles out of HS. That's what they do. "Almost" recruiting one kid to play center every three years is more the exception than the rule.

They honed in on Francavilla fairly early, and SJ super early. I think they're addressing the issue now.

IMO, fans just don't understand how broken the situation was when Mario arrived (not talking about you, of course). There just weren't enough hours in the day for him to cover every hole. So he focused on the most important ones.

There's still work to be done. But we're in so much better a position than we were before, best since Coker, IMO. Flywheel is finally spinning if too slowly.
