A name to keep an eye on

If he is brought in, are we changing the inside zone run scheme? If that's a yes, I am a happy man and bring him in. Reality is, we know we aren't getting away from inside zone and this kid isn't a run blocker.
... did you consider Matt lee "not a run blocker"?

So we get a center like this in portal then we have

OT comp: Mauigoa, Bell, Okunkola, Kinsler
OG comp: Cooper, Mauigoa, McCoy, Rodriguez

Mauigoa is starting somewhere most likely tackle unless Okunkola legit steps it up and Bell is looking great. In that scenario it would be:

Okunkola - Mauigoa - Portal - Cooper - Bell

But I think most likely Okunkola portals out in spring and we are looking at:

Bell - McCoy/Rodriguez - Portal - Cooper - Mauigoa

With Rodriguez then SJ then Nino likely being backup center
what position Bell played this year...left tackle. They will keep him there. Okunkla will have tobeat him out to be the starter...it doesnt make sense moving Mauigoa from his positoon where he has been a stalworth.

I think we definately need a center in the portal as i dont think Rodriguez has played it much or snapped much and he maybe back when healthy pushing as the starting guard.

Normally I'd agree. BUT Okunlola won't be a guard here period. either he wins an OT job or he leaves in spring imo (I mean I guess he could take a big pay cut and just trust he'll be the guy next season since Bell may only have 1 more year cause I'm not sure the JUCO ruling will hold, AND mauigoa will go to draft. IF he absolutely takes the next step and meets his potential this year, we would absolutely want him to take an OT spot. From there you can choose between Mauigoa or Bell at OG/OT. Mauigoa is obviously the better fit at OG. I'm not saying it'd be a definite thing, but its not like it doesn't make sense.

I didn't mean okunloala would be a guard. I meant the real spring battle is bell vs okunloala for lt.

I'm saying mauigoa ain't moving to guard.
The expectation of a tackle is obvious they reoffer Broussard...that's a reinforcement contingency plan

So we saying the same thing

I have to ask a serious question. If Mario and Alex are so good at developing offensive lineman why haven’t they developed a starting center? This will be three years in a row where we’ve had to go the portal for a center. Are we not recruiting the right guys?
Developing centers ain’t the problem, RECRUITING centers is. We’ve literally only landed ONE center since Mario’s been here(Nino Francavilla). Everybody thought Tripp would play center because he’s short but he played guard his entire time at UM. Conor Lew flipping is the sole reason we go into the portal for a center every year

In your opinion, did Cam Ward deserve to win the Heisman Trophy?
I’m on record saying I think the trophy is a bs , political award the media controls. Nobody can explain how it’s decided. Is it the best football player ? Well history has shown that’s not the end all. Is it to the best player or qb on the best team ? There was about a decade of that transpiring. Is it to the most valuable ? That’s why I washed my hands of it a long time ago. It’s a popularity contest.

Imo Cam had as much of an argument as anyone though. None of the candidates played a tough schedule but Cam was consistent every week. I’m cool with Hunter winning , he is the best football player. Jeanty putting up those numbers was insane even if it’s in a weak conference. But Cam finishing last was comical, nobody including Gabriel’s mother believes he’s better than Cam. Which is more proof the trophy sucks.

They recruited Connor Lew and he flipped so he can learn to fly planes. They also recruited a dude that chose Saban a few days after they offered. Lew would’ve solved a lot of issues n the oline.

Also recruited that JUCO guy hard that ended up signing with Arkansas. If he hasn’t jumped in the portal he is stated to for them this year.

They did sign Tripp and brought over Denis and Logan S from Oregon. Sadly none of those 3 were any good.

They almost landed Lew, got Lee and Carpenter in the portal, got SJ in this class.

It's a really tricky spot to recruit. Remember that the best recruiters get less than half their commits right. They didn't recruit Rodriguez but he is probably not quite good enough, They did recruit Tripp but he was both injured and probably not good enough. The Francavilla kid may turn out to be good enough but he's not ready. SJ is almost certainly good enough. Need to keep stacking and they'll get it right.

I'm not worried about centers when it comes to this team. We got more depth for next season if they add another portal center. My biggest concerns right now is QB, LBs and DBs. Kinda wanna add WRs right now

Someone fill me in. If Ryan Rodriguez was good enough to start the year at left guard, but is naturally a center, is there a reason that Rodriguez can’t be the center next year?

I’m all for upgrades, but if NIL money going around is limited is this better directed elsewhere?
Ryan Rodriguez hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire season since he has been in college. We can't depend on him.

I mean... you answered your own question.

I'd love us to run more power, but IZ is the staple of this offense.

My question with PFF (which I don’t give much credence to) who gets the blame if the qb leaves the pocket early , holds on to the ball too long resulting in negative plays and sacks ? Because Cam did that a lot. Even at WSU
QB, mostly, the problem was, the vast majority of these off-script plays went really well.

If they didn't, they were really bad.
