A few random Things I'd expect to see against FSU

We need to play this game with more intensity than we have played all season, the ol needs to take over the game.

Reading all this "saving" talk is like deja vu. Every year that our offense has struggled (and that's been a lot of years in the last decade), this talk comes up when the big game approaches. And every time...it doesn't materialize. It's bullsht. We aren't saving some other playbook. We are what we've seen. Yeah, they'll sprinkle in a little new stuff here and there, like every team does for a big game. But we're not going to see a revamped offense. Or all these crossing routes. Or morris shredding the middle of the field.

What we need to see is the coaches utilizing what we've done best. That's power running football. Establish the run. Control the clock. Keep winston on the sidelines. Play action once the run is established. I do believe that we are a supremely conditioned team. So if we can keep it close, we might be able to grind them out with the run game in the 4th quarter, just like we've done the last two games. Unlike the last two games, we need to lean on the run earlier and more often.

Offense:

- I want to see a lot of Seantrel
- I'd like to see a diamond backfield with Morris in pistol, Dallas and duke. Read option stuff.
- rb/te screens - several
- unbalanced mauling line with trel, Linder, mongo, wheeler, McD, flowers, Bunche
- sandland in the passing game

Defense:

- Gunter at safety some with Crawford filling his spot at cb
- more of McCord
- blitzing from LB or bush and get Winston on his back
- I'd like to have d'onofrio aggressive

If I was Florida State, I would crowd the box, play press man, and make Stephen Morris beat us. He has played poorly the last few weeks. His mechanics are all out of wack and he is babying his ankle and hasn't run for a first down is god knows how long. We are down a starting receiver (Phillip Dorsett) and Rashawn Scott hasn't played in over a month. Also, I know Florida State is studying our 2nd half of our Florida game (similar talents in the secondary as FSU) where we got shut down with around 47 yards of total offense.

That's my thinking for what Florida State will do on defense, just wondering what Coley's plan will be.

They do that every year. They dare us to run. When we can't, they start pinning their ears back and maul us. However, in the past, when we've had success against them on runs, they quickly soften up their D

Hard to say I think this or that but how about a question? What if all of a sudden we get a heavy of Gus the Bus as a change of pace. We have to keep the ball away from their offence. We have to play like Wake. Long time consuming drives. Use all of our backs.

I'd involve the RB's and TE's in the passing game a lot. One thing I've noticed about their D is that their LB's are suspect in pass coverage, we have a clear advantage here. Get Duke and Crawford in space against Jones and Smith and let them work.

The general theme of your 'offense' take is that coach Coley will break tendencies for this game. Im hopeful but not optimistic.

This. And if any of you think Morris will come out playing well, might I suggest investing in Ukranian junk bonds?

KIEV, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Ukraine's state oil firm Naftogaz has paid a delayed $21.7 million coupon to bondholders after its first payment was frozen by a London court, the finance ministry said on Wednesday, narrowly averting a damaging debt default.

Offense

- Wildcat with Dallas Crawford
- Halfback pass by either RB or WR pass with Crawford in the slot
- More counters to play off what we've been showing with Walford in motion over the last couple weeks
- Morris pull the ball down and try to pick up 8-10 instead of fading backward and to the side
- Waiting for Coach Coley to unveil some route trees that include crossing routes from each side
- Coach Coley to show trips and flood so that Morris can focus on half the field

Defense

- Less games/stunts that we've shown all season
- A few more S/CB blitzes
- Would prefer to matchup than to see Greene find holes in our zone
- Not too much new stuff because we're not going to get too fancy

What do you guys expect?

Shhhh! You can't post this stuff on here remember...other coaches read our threads and we might give away our game plan.

But good stuff, I like it.

What I want to see is

1st: Miami needs to stop electing to Kick off when they win the coin toss.....It doesnt make any sense, the offense needs to establish a rhythm and is still the strongest unit on the team. The defense starts slow so why put them on the field first??? Lets give them a chance to play defense w/ a lead and see how that works for a change.

2nd: I would love to see AJ Highsmith dressed in street clothes passing out the Gatorade and being a player coach on the sidelines.

3rd: The OL needs to open up lanes for Duke Johnson immediately..... Eduardo Clements and Mo Hagens should get some touches in this game 2 as a power back.

4th: The Defense get off the field on 3rd downs

5th: Stephen Morris in the clutch

Some will think I'm crazy, but just hear me out.

Since I believe FSU knows we want to run the ball, my first play would be a PA pass to Coley down the side line. He runs a hitch and go.

If Morris connects, its a big play, if not a TD. Then FSU will have to think twice on every running play, which I would do often the rest of the game.

Even if you don't hit it, you have the psychological affect on the defensive backfield to stay with their man instead of looking to hard in the backfield. It might help open up the running game.

Then again, may I suggest our game plan the last time we played OU (lots of crossing patterns, straight up the field runs and some long balls).

FWIW

You're going to see a Stanford type approach here.

Run the ball a ton and playaction over the top. Everything I've seen from Golden/Coley the last couple of games suggests they are trying to make things as simple and easy for Morris as possible. It's alarming since homeboy is a 5th year senior and shouldn't have to be coddled this way at this point...but in all honesty it plays right into his strength. For all his deficiencies he throws a great deep ball and has plenty of arm. When he doesn't have to think and goes to his first read he's a lot more effective.

I'd be shocked to see anything else. As I mentioned in my first post in this thread I would personally like to see more screens to the rb's and crossing patterns...but I have a gut feeling Golden is going to go the Stanford route for this particular match up.

So, here we are in week 10 of college ball, and we will become something we havent been all year. OK. I like the thinking but wont get my hopes up. The one thing that Morris and the offense can build off of is that they didnt turn the ball over against Wake, huge improvement. What also gives me hope was that it was about this time last year Morris started heating up. He needs the game of his life Saturday. I mean, the game of his effing life.

I just want to see us elect to get the ball first if we win the coin toss this time....

Everything else is up in the air after that....

Miami has to just stick to a balanced offensive game plan, mix it up w/ the run and the pass and dont turn the ball over.

Let the offense energize the defense for once, not the other way around, b/c having the defense on the field first doesnt work.

- Double tightend sets: Help protect Morris in the passing game
- Lots of three vertical routes: isolate Coley underneath and double moves to create separation. Also use some double moves on vertical routes.
- Duke and Crawford become primary receiving threats out the backfield
- I Formations: use exclusively on short and goal line situation
- Shotgun trip formation w/back aligned to trips side: run the ball from this formation and apply above #2 and 3.

-Press coverage techniques: Give this look early on their outside receivers.
-Look for work underneath: Can't stand when zone defenders don't look up receivers in respective zones. Find receivers and lock on to them.
-Man up number two receivers in the middle of the field.
-Wide 9 personnel package: Get this package going early to pressure Winston. Big nickel package supplementing the W9 package against the run.
-Coverages: Mix and match. Man one side, zone the other side. Float man coverage around interior to exterior receiver without tipping it off. Make Winston find the matchup. Make him hold the ball.

I think we will blitz and do some new things on defense.

We've gotta let Morris play his game though. I'm okay with us playing conservatively on O against Wake Forest because we can win doing that, but it won't work against FSU. If Morris gets the passing game going and we make a few big plays early it'll become a night. That said, we still really need to be able to run the ball and push their smallish DL around.

If I see that stupid play FSU does out of the bunch formation where they flood a zone and have Greene sit right down, I'm gonna lose my mind. We know it's coming and we have their ol offensive coordinator...tell us how to stop it.

I'm hoping we see one of those old school trick plays we did under Coker. One thing about those Coker teams was that when we had talent, we consistently tore teams up with trick plays on special teams. I'd love to see a reverse to Duke or something, or have Duke take the fake knee in the endzone after an FSU score when they're lax and then run it out like Parrish did against Pitt (?).

I agree that FSU will crowd the box to take away Duke and make Morris beat us.

Why not be prepared for that?

Why is going spread, no huddle 4 maybe even 5 WR's (Duke being one) a bad idea?

Morris is a one or two read (don't think too much guy).

Spread our guys all over the place and allow him to get into a rhythm. Worked last year did it not?

I mean a real hurry up. Not this line up and with 18 seconds to go on the clock look at the **** sideline. Line up and go.

This will make FSU soften up a little. Our routes have to include curls, drags and crossing routes so that Morris can get the ball out of his hands quickly.

Of course you can still send one or two guys vertical.

I don't see why a shootout is out of the realm of possibility. I don't believe their skill guys are better than ours. Do you?

Morris is a gunslinger ala Brock Berlin. Spread it out and let him get into a rhythm.

If your going to go down go down firing every bullet you have in the gun, what are you saving them for?
