A couple notes on Marquise Lightfoot

Watched his junior highlights a couple times and he looks aggressive, but it was difficult to see his quickness off the snap given that the camera felt 4 or 5 thousand miles away. If anyone has a deeper analysis on what they've seen on film, please point us in the right direction.

A few things that stood out to me:

- He ran a corner(ish) route as a TE. Nice acceleration out of his break. I like to see DEs and LBs who play some offense.
- He changed direction well while covering on special teams.
- As everyone has stated, he chases the ball sideline to sideline, which I guess is why someone mentioned JPhillips.
- In his non-pads clips, he seemed to get a late start off the snap, but still won reps.

You needed a telescope to get through those highlights.

It has always been important for teams to rank recruiting targets. But it's even more important in the NIL era. This year, we have a tier of elite, first-round type grades. There are about six or seven kids on that list. The whales. Lightfoot was one of them.

I asked why Lightfoot was so high on the board. They gave me several reasons:

- He measures out officially at 6'4, 220 with a big frame in person and an 81-inch wingspan. He may be 6'5 now.
- He has outstanding quicks (4.25) and closing speed.
- He has explosive strength and striking ability.
- He is unusually aggressive with a high motor. He plays special teams and loves football.

This is a big-time pickup and adds to what is becoming a CFP-caliber EDGE group. In the past three years, we've added Nyjalik Kelly, Reuben Bain, Cyrus Moss, Jayden Wayne and Collins Achempong. There are more on the way.

Safe to say Kevin Riley was in that group?
If so, 2 for 7 so far with 4 left uncommitted?

2 first round picks with more than half the board left is not a bad place to be but thats with a big big assumption that the evaluations are spot on.

I'd trade a chance at Stewart and a couple other supposed "whales" for DTs Breland and Jones. Is there any way fans can make these trades?
Well Jones is tomorrow, and seems like a realistic get. With Scott choosing tOSU, looks like Stone is even more critical.

i'm gonna keep it real...I NEVER watched this kids film as i never expected him in the class.

Now i can officially watch...

- Closes on the ball in a hurry
-Motor. This is what i want from my DL. Kid has it for sure.
- Uses his hands really well...is more physical than expected. He uses his hands to jolt back tackles alot..not just str8 running around guys that are working in Hot topic after high school
- Frame. His frame looks like it can hold another 20-25 pounds rather easily.

Him and Moss are guys you put in a wide 9 and torment tackles.
Actually like that he is running on specials that may get him to make travel squads right away here.

Comp for him is a lengthier (Pause)....

Beasley was a PROBLEM in the ACC...
His combine numbers.

I want Lightfoot to play here around that 240 range his whole career an keep that motor.

Awesome to hear. Thanks.

You mentioned Moss. Do you ever see him contributing here? I don’t care how quick he is or about his bend - he just looks outmatched size-wise. And I am not talking about Bain size, like a little short. He’s just so slim and so is his frame.

Not Gogeta, but I think Moss flashes some value *this* year. Would be shocked if Guidry doesn't play him as a stand up pass rush specialist and just let him isolate on some TEs and defenseless OTs out wide. In a traditional role, he might struggle to show much, but in a subpackage where he just runs upfield and bends around the corner or runs twists/games underneath, I think he can give us a couple plays.

We byke? We broke? Which is it? Seriously.

There are levels of wealth.

Are we rich enough to match bags with anyone for an elite edge in a year where the head coach has put a premium on DL recruiting? Yes.

Are we rich enough to significantly overpay for a WR prospect that we just got on and who is being overpaid by Nebraska? No.

On Justin Scott, we just lost. It’s not money, it’s distance first and foremost, and Larry Johnson is as good as anyone in America at what he does. We lost, and so did about 20 other coaches who recruited the **** out of him, cause he’s **** good. It’ll happen again when you are fishing for the biggest fish in the pond. No shame in the game.

There’s your recap of the past 2 days. Everyone relax. Our NIL packages will keep us competitive and our coach is one of the best recruiters on the planet and demands his staff are as well. We’ll be fine.
