Jamal Carter should be able to beat out anybody not named Bush or Jenkins we have at safety
Hopefully this means that when Chick comes back he will supplant Shayon and we can have the best four DL on the field.
This has been discussed many, many times. He can't or won't apply for a medical redshirt until after his senior season. So he is a sophomore at the moment. The chart lists Lewis as a Sophomore when he earned a medical redshirt. He's got four more years.
Also, as good as Coley is, I'd love to see Burns returning, has great vision, super quick, great movement. I honestly think he would be a better option than Dorsett. Dorsett is faster, but vision is lacking.

That's not how this defense is built and I don't think that's what that depth chart indicates. I think it's pretty clear they're building specific roles for a broader plan. We may not now or ever be a 3-4 defense, but there are a good amount of examples in there that signal we will have some clear elements of that framework.
The most important takeaway from that depth chart is that we're going to throw a lot of different looks out there. I'm not saying that's necessarily good or bad with a defense that hasn't shown to be successful, but it's what it looks like we're doing.
I don't dislike Shayon and I think he'll have a role, but if Gilbert can play and some of these other transfers (Kamalu, Renfrow) can play then we're going to see Shayon less and less.
Again, Shayon led the defense in tackles last year and has been in the system for three years. You may not think Green deserves PT but the coaches obviously feel different. Gilbert hasn't even had a practice yet and you claim he's going to step on campus and take his job?
Green is poised to have just as good of a season as any player on the defense right now. **** just a few days ago Armbrister was a JAG and if he was in the lineup the defense was in bad shape. Let the coaches coach these players up and the depth chart will work itself out. We fans have no clue whats going on behind the scenes.
Would you shut up?
I never said Gilbert would step on campus and take his job. But if Gilbert comes in and proves he's ready to play then I guarantee you we'll see less Shayon Green.
Ugh, that DL is scary and not in a good way
I dunno, if you put Chick and or Gilbert in there, I think it looks pretty solid, especially compared to last year.
Still, an Al Golden depth chart doesn't mean a whole lot.
I dont think many of the people in this thread understand what the term "JAG" means.
JAG=Just Another Guy
Shayon Green is the ultimate JAG. Unfortunately, many of the upperclassmen on our roster would be lucky to be given the term JAG.
Hopefully this means that when Chick comes back he will supplant Shayon and we can have the best four DL on the field.

When you say, "That's not how this defense is built" do you mean that it's not built to get the best players on the field at the same time regardless of position? Because Golden has been making similar comments about our LBs. Saying it's about get the best 3 on the field at the same time regardless of their 'true' position I guess.

You STFU! All you do is flap your wrists on this board. You talked smack about Shayon and said when Gilbert gets on campus he'll take Shayons PT. Now you guarantee we'll see less of Shayon. This is the same Gilbert that is battling injury and hasn't had a single practice.
Shayon led the defense in tackles and is a captain of this team. He's actually participating in practices and listed on the roster. Your guarantee means jack**** right now.

smh guys like you on this board who love labeling UM players "JAGS" get on my nerves..... that's your opinion, you dont control what somebody is or isnt, clown.
Most of the upperclassmen on this roster, currently, by your definition arent JAGS by the way...
Seniors
S. Morris, Mo Hagens, Ed Clements, A. Hurns, S. Henderson, B. Linder, C. Porter, L. Robinson, and J. Gaines are all very good players, far from being a JAG.
J. Wheeler, S. Green, K. Cain, and Dyron Dye are above average players, not JAGs... Green bust his *** off and made plays when nobody else on the d-line was doing it.
New comers Pat O'Donnel and D. Gilbdert are very good players as well.
Kc Rogers, AJ Highsmith, and Ty Cornelius are the only JAGs I see out of the Senior class by your definition.
Juniors
Ry. Williams, R. Scott, P. Dorsett, C. Walford, S. McDermott, J. Feliciano, M. Bunche, B. Sandland on offense arent JAGS so i still dont know what the **** you are talking about.
A. Chickillo, O. Pierre, D. Perryman, L. Gunter, and T. Armbrister aren JAGS so again wtf are you talking about??
David Perry is the only JAG i can think of in the junior class....
so really who are all these upperclassmen that are JAGS or are "lucky" enough to be JAGS???
