8/9/13 Depth Chart

I think the most interesting thing is Pierre is a DE.

I absolutely love that look.. (Pierre, Porter, Robinson, Chick) Very strong against the run with the ability to get to pressure on the QB. On passing situations only you'll see Pierre slide inside (probably chick too) with McCord & Gilbert (or whoever) outside. Yes please!

Btw not sleeping on Green.. just talking about key drives late in games. (need playmakers on the field)

Why do you think LT is just Flowers and RT is Flowers/Henderson? If Bunche beats out Flowers at LT henderson will be on the bench?

I have no idea what to expect from our defense. On one hand, I can see changes in personnel, conditioning and experience. On the other hand, we were just so freaking bad last season. I want to drink the kook aid, but just don't know.

Less concerned with DL than I am with depth at linebacker. Surprised that Jermaine Grace hasn't made more of a move.

He looked pretty small up next to Jimmy, Alex, Raphael, Denzel, and Tyriq. Even Thurston made him look small, not Tyrone though lol. We'll see if he can be like Spence or Perryman and still step up with small size as a freshman. But like Al said, 208 pound LB's don't normally cut it. He might need more time.

This is a good sign guys. Nobody should be starting at LB as a true freshman unless they are one of these physical freaks coming out of HS at 230+.

This defensive depth chart screams hybrid 3-4. With the Hamilton move to weak side DT, I see that as the flex position that will kick to DE when the WDE move up the WOLB. If you watch any of the videos from practice or spring you see Cain and Green are often playing standing up and covering the flats. Perryman has experience playing in the middle so him sliding inside will not be a huge adjustment. This defensive scheme makes perfect sense for the strength of this team with the lack of "True DT's" and the large number of DE/OLB this plays in our favor. We can get more speed on the field and put more pressure on the QB.

This scheme also works perfectly for all of the late additions as well. When you look at guys like Kamula and Derosier they are big enough at DE to hold the point of attack. Renfrow is big enough to play the NT spot and push King for the 2nd spot, and with Gilbert's combination of size and speed he is perfect to play that WDE/WOLB position.

Bunche will not beat out Flowers at LT.

I don't expect he will but I just thought it was kind of odd how it was listed. Would Bunche play LT if Flowers went down instead of Henderson?

Probably. I don't think Seantrel is comfortable at LT for whatever reason. Feliciano would be an option too I suppose, but I don't think he has the quickness needed. So it would most likely be Bunche.

Coley already breakin in for a spot!

How about at Punt Return?

I LOVE that. He's got way more potential at the spot than Dorsett and its nice to see him right there already.

Love that he's already made this type of move, he gives us a home-run threat on punt return, Dorsett for all his speed doesn't break many.

I agree with all this. That boy Coley is the type of "sudden" player that's needed on punt returns.
