2024 Race to 300

289.44 after Day 1 of ESD.

Just mind-blowing.

Absurdly great job by every single person involved. Mario is a relentless menace.
This is without a doubt one of my favorite threads. I am an out of the closet star *****.

Imagine this thread under Golden or Manny....It would not be pretty.

If we get a legit QB this year in the portal I'm calling 300+ for Mario in the next class.

If you add in transfers, can it get over 300? Functionally not much different between getting a HS player and getting a college player with 3-4 years of eligibility.
Most usually only associate the HS cycle with this numbers although there is a ranking that combines the two

Looking at our top 10 classes since the 247 era (2011):

2012: #10 (268.93) Blue Chip %: 27%
2018: #8 (280.87) Blue Chip %: 65%
*2023 #8 (292.01) Blue Chip %: 51%
*2024: #4 (290.81) Blue Chip %: 42%

*Overall rankings (Recruits + Portal)

The points are kinda wild. I said earlier this year I thought we would have basically the same class as last year. Ranking helped by numbers but the points are basically the same

Really cool

Need them Zo vals to prop up the back end

(Pause)

The DL class is obviously the crown jewel (on paper). The WR room looks good, too, on paper.

The DB room, I’m concerned w/. Patterson is the jewel here, but then it’s a whole bunch of evals, w/ the CB section looking oy vey.

I like Lofton as a player, but I’m not sure his fit here. He’s more HB than TE, & we hardly used the TE besides an extra blocker this season. He doesn’t fit that mode, and we haven’t had much success w/ that HB role under any coach.

RB is a nice compliment to what we already have, but Riley is a potential game changer. Anyone saying otherwise is being a homer full of sour grapes.

QB…I don’t care how anyone spins this, but this is a problem. We MUST hit on the portal or we’re screwed.

With OL, u have to trust evals on this, period.

I like the LB class, & it’s a nice play on to the class of 2023. May be the more unheralded of positions we recruited this cycle.

Still time left on the clock to make this class even better.

I’m with you 100%

The problem isn’t just that we failed to come through at QB and CB but we failed in two classes in a row (though Damari last year can be elite)

The portal QB can change the entire trajectory of our season for sure but this is not a sustainable practice

You think we make a move with Addae in the months to come.

I was playing with the class calculator. I think a midpoint of possible outcomes would be:
We land Blount but not J. Smith,
A. Hayes but not Mincey,
Lyle but not K. Riley,
Lucas but not C. Bailey;
and I. Thomas signs but Rudolph does not.
That would be a final score of 289.94, which should be good for the #5 class in the country.
As you can see, things could be a little better than that or a little worse. But there is reason to be hopeful for a top 5 class.
That said, Cam Ward is arguably the most important get.
I was very close, except that Lucas didn't sign. Rudolph signed, but Kendall Jackson didn't, so that practically canceled out.
What's interesting is that the team score is 3rd in the country due to the scores being lower at the top. It looks like there's a little more parity now. Think Raiola flipping to Nebraska.

The last two months have been especially mind-blowing from a recruiting perspective. Absolutely incredible close.

This isn't shocking at all

TrumpyCane posted this a month or two ago but last year AFTER FSU game we closed with:

Samson
Bain
Fletcher
Damari Brown
Collins Ache
Horton
Chris Johnson

Mario is a menace recruiting and no one should ever doubt him

Mannnnnnn. lol. I’ve been questioning him since Day 1, & ppl thought I was crazy. Everybody was on Joe’s head, and Addae been skipping about doing absolutely horrible on the trail.
There is no reason to keep Addea when Corey Raymond is there

TrumpyCane thinks even a washed Raymond is 10x better than Addea, at least Raymond has clout

Regarding TE/Lofton this is a great test for Dawson because based on TE utilization this year your concerns are valid but Lofton has the skillset to do damage considering we still have multiple blocking TE's on the roster so there's no reason for Dawson to force that role onto Elijah.

DB class lacking in top end talent. And no excuses can be and shoild be made for that. Whatever they did with the OL and DL last 2 years need to be addressed to the DB room. We have to hold on to Damari and hopefully Stafford is now ready to play. The DL after all the ups and downs ended where we needed it to be, so too was WR. The eval pick ups are gonna be inspected in the coming years.

Cant fault our addressing of needs though.

I think who we have at QB gonna be what changes that.

Just curious as to why people think Corey Raymond is washed up? A lot of assistant coaches only look as good as the head man allows them to be. Look how bad many of our coaches looked under Clappy, Onion, Folden, and Diaf only to go other places and be successful. I think Raymond would probably be an excellent hire. I don't think he's forgotten how to coach.
