MEGA 2024 Fall Ball

Pitchers: Walters, Hugus, Giroux, Lumpkin, Fischer, and Cleveland
-Walters was probably the cleanest overall with just a pair of walks
-Hugus, Giroux, and Fischer all bounced back after relatively busy first innings. Fischer’s second inning was probably the best of the game.
-Marsh had the lone homer. The wind was a big factor. Cuvet might have had a HR and 2B on a better day instead of just an SF.
-Ogden was the player of the game for me. He basically manufactured the first run on his own with a single, stolen base, and advancing to third on a ball that got away from the catcher before Cuvet brought him home on an SF
-Honorable mention to Williams for the lone “clutch” hit and a great throw from RF
-Was pleased with how clean we were defensively besides a Marsh drop in foul territory
-If I’m being picky, I’d have liked to see us string more hits together, but also a little of that is the wind and the five batter rule
-FAU got sloppy late.

We have a great problem in the outfield with so many great hitters. Fully believe Walters and Hugus will be the Friday and Saturday starters, just need to find who will be the Sunday starter (I think it will be Rob Evans). Also want to give some praise to the freshman who looked ahead of schedule, DeGoti looked comfortable at short

One of my negatives is we did not strike out many batters, it's something to pay attention to during the start of the season.
I also cannot describe the complete 180 i saw today from the defense. from watching them on Friday and then today. Complete 180, we turned two DP and all of the DP were made by freshman, (1st De Gotti, De Jesus) (2nd Amaury De Jesus completed the double play by himself. De Gotti looked really good at SS, very natural. Ethan Puig made a complete 180 from yesterday to today. Maybe it was because there was 25-30 scouts in attendance.

That first point definitely falls into the category of things the wind may have masked. Today was the perfect day to pitch to contact.

Yeah. Preseason scrimmages can be like that. One day the quality of defense makes you want to gouge your eyes out, and the next it's perfectly fine. Hopefully, the latter is closer to the truth come spring.

From everyone that went to the scrimmage, I know it’s still early, but does it look like the fruits of soto’s work are paying off?

How do the Catcher's look behind the plate? We can't endure another season of bad catching....
I'm guessing that some cuts will start happening sooner than later.
